Please bring arena back. Or at least a new and improved version of it.
There are far to many people that just want to dummy sail in to the wind and not entertain PvP, it’s utterly soul destroying.

If you want a fight make people want to attack you.
This !!
@lem0n-curry I mean we stacked World Events as reaper 5 for 7 hours with an FOTD key on us... like I'm really not sure how to get more worthy.
Better to just portal hop and hunt ppl tbh best way to get PVP now a days.

@captain-coel Please, that’s ridiculous. Folk who won’t fight, won’t fight no matter what.
While that's true, there are also pirates who prefer to not fight if the other party won't bring anything to the fight but loads of supplies and maybe a reaper flag.

OP was complaining about people running from a fight, not about others starting it 😎, but yeah that would have been a fight with some nice stake(s).

@lem0n-curry my crew has been having luck with Athena 5 + Reapers Mark
I was just sailing with a grade 5 merchant, saw a Reaper do the Fleet - going from grade 1 to 5 -they sold their stuff and then came after me @ Morrow's Peak.
It was just 1 minute before Gold Rush, so we had everything in front of the merchant to sell... I took the mermaid when first shot was fired and when I got out of the blackscreen my crewmate (who just joined me for half an hour) had sunk & killed them already.
It was a brig and very long black screen …
Not much loot though - cannon ball crate, fruit crate plus the grade 5 reaper flag. Only worth it because we still had the merchant flag up combined with Community Day double gold and gold rush.
Ye i wish they'd bring it back. I've been on a long break, i already unlocked everything (think i missed the pistol 200kill).
If i attack people they either run or get super angry i attack them.
Rarely do i get a fight in SoT nowadays.
Im super happy over the QoL stuff & they finally fixed Athena, but taking down Arena was a misstake.
I could really use it, im rusty as hell & Arena was a great way to warm up & to practice your shots again.
Getting used to the angles, distance etc when using your cannon, getting comfortable with fights.
And it was fun if you wanted guaranteed pvp & you didn't have much time. They were the new forts but for pvp.
Little playtime but wanting some naval pvp? Go Arena.
Now you either need to jump around on servers or farm up alot to become a target.

It gone for that reason, they couldnt improve it no mater what they did. Dead weight to even keep.
"Entertain pvp" What does that even mean? It destroys my soul when people sink ships and not at least take my Loot. Even black beard stole resources or loot as the ship burned.
I feel that Rare may introduce a new game mode, but not for a while. I remember in their Hot Topics podcast, they said something about learning from their mistakes or on the lines of that.
I miss Arena, didn’t have enough time whilst it was out to grind it, but I did manage to get most TSD cosmetics as well as GSD and the knowledge that I was just above 50 wins away from LSD.

Dummy sail? PvE is also an important part of the game.
But that a lot of players don't want to PvP is completely logical. A lot of players just like the PvE stuff. And combine that with a PvPvE world ánd no skill based servers, you will eventually get to where the game is now: the lesser skilled players are bullied out of PvP, since they know they have no chance and only the higher skilled players are left trying to PvP. Learning also doesn't work, because you need to fight (about) evenly skilled players for that, otherwise it will be way to one-sided to learn and try new things.
So you then just come to a situation where they won't even try anymore and just run or quit. This is what PvPvE without skill based servers will always end up eventually.
Players just end up doing what is best for them. If you know you don't have a chance, you either run and hope the PvP'er gives up and/or just scuttle/quit (so you don't waist time). They are just left without other option, because PvP'ing against someone way more skilled is no fun and only getting angry.
This is also why a lot of PvE players find the PvP players toxic: not because of misbehaving, but just because they leave them no chance. For them that actually is an toxic situation, since they are defenseless (because of the skill gap) and can't realy fight back.
What doesn’t help is that the PvP crews usually bring nothing to the party, no emissary (or if they have one up, it’s a grade 1 reaper, woooo..) their ship almost always has zero loot on board yet they’ll go harassing the server for theirs.
I know it’s the name of the game blah blah.. but to do that and then get annoyed that nobody is interested in a battle to
a) gain absolutely nothing if they win
Or
b) kiss goodbye to potentially hours of play
It’s not really appealing to most folk
Arena was fun and it’s a shame it went (certainly don’t agree with people being locked out of achievements!) but by the end it was an absolute mess - hour waiting times and if you did get into the game it’s full of absolute pros, no normal person stood a chance
Here are the team's thoughts towards the Arena and it's closure. And given that the decision is final, we will be dropping anchor on this thread here. Thank you.
