Old gen and new gen seperation

  • Have the developers been thinking about seperating the last gen consoles from the next gen and pc?

If so the game can be expanded much more and can grow to its true potential. And certain features can be added and are not hindered by 10 year old consoles

  • That be too much of work and let the less fortun players who haven’t or yet purchase the next upgrade.

    We are already divided:
    Pc vs Xbox
    Pvp vs pve vs pvpve
    veteran vs newbie
    Pve servers vs none.

We don’t need it and super doubt it is ever thought about. Or even needed.

  • Anything to move this game into the future, spike up the graphics!

  • @snader-sot I doubt it will happen. For a few reasons.

1st. The server doesn't care what device you are. A device is a device to it.

2nd. Pcs are actually the worst and elast capable device that can run Sea of Thieves not the old xbox.

3rd. The game is over 4 years in. With a 10 year plan I doubt that they will remove people from the player pool.

  • I understand that people with lower spec hardware don't like this idea, but if we want the game to keep getting bigger and better updates, the old hardware will simply have to step aside sooner or later.

Other games out there have already done this, and it worked out great. Imagine if for example GTA online was still developing for PS3 and Xbox360, the game would never get all the amazing content that it has now.

  • I have both Xbox series x and old Xbox one and i can say that coming back to old gen is unplayable. So i think for a sake of old gen rare should make seperate servers.

  • I'm not sure why there is this misconception that the issues SoT has are caused by old gen support?

The server doesn't care what device you have.

  • Others have mentioned that the server doesn't care about the client side, a client/device is a client/device.

Graphics don't always make the game, gameplay will trump them almost every time. Look at recent games, like Elden Ring. The graphics have been compared to games much older and yet it's one of the top selling titles out there.

This also doesn't touch on the potential claims of a higher level of graphics fidelity giving some kind of advantage (higher draw distance, better ability to ID a ship at distance, etc).

To me, one of SoT's draws is how the playing field is equal for all players. I would vote to leave it alone, it's fine as is.
