Chat option to talk to Alliance crew mates

  • I am assuming this idea has been thrown into the pot a few times, but having the idea to be able to communicate between your Alliances at huge distances.

A chat function, a bird that travels? anything to communicate?

    Discord/Xbox Live Party/Steam chat.
    You're welcome! 😅😉

  • @galactic-geek So I have to go through all this external? No, I do not agree, this should be added ingame and not cause all this major annoyance.

  • The amount of time one has to burn, adding on an Xbox app which I will say is the least user-friendly, asking people to add externally is just a time waste to then when its all gone, you have a addy and a person you might never see within the Seas again.

  • @kadaj1991 there is a reason Rare added the speaking trumpet. Also alliances were added so crews could work together to complete events that required co-operation to overcome and not have to worry about splitting the loot manually.

Alliances are not meant to farm gold on opposite sides of the map and turn in for boosting. This is a player-made mechanic and therefore should not get any in-game support from the devs. You sail out of speaking trumpet range from your alliance at your own peril.

  • @kommodoreyenser You say this, but then theirs actual Discord supported communities in favor of Allianced servers? even rare people within the actual community, Trumpet is great, but why am I to struggle to talk to an Alliance mate across the sea? I am just requesting somewhat an /Alliance and being able to type within it?

An alliance chat can be easily used to be able to inform your crew your in danger, even the odd hey we might do this event? I think a lot of you miss the actual idea that these systems work on MMO's.

  • communicate between your Alliances at huge distances.

Why add a feature when we already have it outside?

Rare itself doesn’t support alliance servers. They also have no control over individual employees and their opinions of play style.

Honestly if you want alliances to get better in standard servers, alliance servers need to get the axe.

Also, this is not an MMO game. 5 ships/16 players per server is farthest from it.

  • I think a homing pigeon would be okay, provided that the bird takes time to travel and messages aren't delivered instantly. This makes it a sort of RP perk that enhances the organic alliance experience, without buffing it in a way that adds any real tactical value.

  • @burnbacon Because then you end with a game that is just a corpse, held together by third party sites (elite dangerous).

Not an expert, but would homing pigeons actually work when the base (i.e. the ship) is mobile ?

  • @lem0n-curry Lol I'm not an expert on that subject either. I just know that they existed, and thus there is some foundation in reality for a fantasy-RP mechanic to draw from.

Makes more sense (and more importantly, seems less op) than some telepathic ability alliance members automatically acquire, allowing them to communicate instantly.
