Here is a thread for people to post ideas of new content for the roar and how it could bring back its relevance.
Devil’s Roar and how to bring new content to it
What's not relevant about it?
I like what it offers to the environment.
The badlands of the sea it gives people the opportunity to make more gold, lower pvp risk by increasing pve risk, and generally just get to experience a different type of environment.
The people that enjoy being around there already go around there. Trying to lure people in is just creating more content that people will grind for commendations/rewards but they may not necessarily enjoy it.
@wolfmanbush fair I’m one of those people but im more talking about things in terms like special world events

It's becoming more of a struggle justify new world events imo
there are too many other lucrative options now, people grind out the commendations and then abandon the event
I think roar events would be even more difficult to keep active, many already ignore the roar fort.
Ashen athena veil voyages would probably be the best bet for long term activity.

Just make it so you spawn at morrows peak… MIC DROP

Probably should have mentioned that the volcano stays inactive too, I can hear the screams of being spawn camped by a volcano lol

From a risk/reward point of view I very much like that morrow's explodes.
it makes random scenarios interesting in the area and creates situations where people need to plan and adapt which contributes to balance in a area where there is often less pvp risk and more reward
I've heard rumors the Morrow's Peak volcano has been silenced. If it has, MP should absolutely be a spawn point. Especially with Golden Sands incapacitated.
I saw Devil's Thirst erupting for the first time since Heart of Fire dropped too.
I think events absolutely should spawn in the Roar with an ashy boost.
I'd rework the volcano mechanics. Currently, when a volcano starts errupting, it just puts your adventure on pause for a couple minutes. You run back to the ship, sail the boat out of range, then scroll through your phone while waiting for it to stop. I'd prefer if an eruption somehow changes your adventure rather than making you stop it.
Maybe make the range smaller so that you don't have to completely leave the island, and I'd probably make the rocks do less damage to players, but more to ships. This way you can still adventure onto the island while still having that level of danger.
Theme should be fire and explosions
- Make ashen treasure only available to the Roar.
- Remove all "Sea monster" enemies from the Roar
- New voyages centered around evading rooms filling up with either lava or boiling water (A spiral or tower perhaps that opens up with a totem and starts to sink slowly. Structure may be located underwater as a Siren spire/ sunken tower, or as a regular towering structure that sinks slowly
- New voyages centered around platform jumping with geysers
- New world event where one starts at one point and must run to the center of an active volcano with a hidden treasure room. Players must evade, jump, fight, and run across the island to the center of the volcano. Players will encounter volcanic rocks, enemies, geysers, traps, and earth quakes in increased frequency or difficulty as they get closer to the treasure room. Volcano eruption only affects the island and not the water surrounding it.
- Arena/ combat room that rely on the chest of rage (The same way they work in the 2nd ashen tall tale) being used as a trigger to activate a moving room with a bunch of flame traps. Traps activate for a few seconds when the chest of rage explodes and become dormant until the next explosion)
- New enemies that are ignited, lob fire, and are resistant to fire. Water helps weaken them and allow players to attack them using the sword
- Create a chance of finding chest of rage in devils roar either by digging or exploring island
- New fire boss that needs to be put out with water occasionally/ frequently by either filling the room with water (Same as filling ship with water from a water barrel) and leading him to the area that is filled with water or by destroying objects to allow a water source that can be used to fill buckets that allow players to cool the boss out.
- 2 parts to this one:
A) Provide a new glider tool to players to use all across the game
B) New event that allows players to activate "hot air triggers" for a limited time and must glide using said glider while evading terrain obstacles, lava fissures/ eruptions, and chance of volcano eruption, to reach a high place where treasure resides (Perhaps within the vicinity of the peaks of a volcano) before the hot air contraptions shut down. - New event where players must climb a tower filled with varied ramped diagonal platforms and jump over varying barrels being rolled downwards including regular barrels that damage and knock back players, and gp barrels that kills the player outright. Platforms may also be filled with fire traps. Event may be merged with previously mentioned event of tower sinking (If devs so choose to do so) Top of tower has a treasure room of course and a beautiful view of the volcanic sea
- Create voyages that involve "brittle" obstacles that can be exploded using gp barrels (and blunder bombs maybe?) to reveal secret or hidden rooms that have treasure stashed
@pithyrumble Recent update, I have checked this, I can confirm the Outpost is still roaring away with volcano activity.
@wolfmanbush the only reason I have to go over there is Anthena runs. Would be nice to have something new there. It's the best dlc for me and it needs some love. 👍
Change the environmental hazards so they're not 100% random. IE fix the geysers in place and make them function similar to those found in the Siren Shrine puzzles, and make the lava flows permanent parts of the terrain which players need to avoid at all times. The only random aspect should be where the brimstone flung by erupting volcanoes ends up.
I'd like to see a combination of the suggestions already put forward herein, and offer my own spin.
- Eruptions, while fittingly dangerous, perhaps should be a little more isolated to the island in question in order to preserve crew session 'flow'. Have the non-island Sea Volcanoes continue to erupt with the same aplomb.
- Emergents such as Skeleton Ships and Megalodons should be altered in some way to be more dangerous in the Roar, but drop superior loot. Grace Morrow talks about a 'Redmaw', perhaps an Ashen Megalodon whose bite ignites your boat should spawn here? Ashen Skeleton Ships should also employ firebombs and perhaps even blunderbombs.
- Molten Sands Fortress currently presents high risk with no greater reward. Perhaps it should be altered to a player-activated, Flameheart-themed event (Ashen Lord Stitcher Jim, maybe?) with an Ashen Chest of Legends in its vault.
- In general, loot in the Devil's Roar has failed to keep up with the inflation used to incentivise other content. The Sunken Kingdom is generally a superior catch-all that offers less risk and comparable loot to sailing in the Roar. Maybe the Box of Wondrous Secrets should be offered in some way, rather than being an extremely rare spawn with no associated commendations. Reduce their turn-in value to 15000~ish and add commendations to unlock Reaper-themed or new Ashen cosmetics, maybe?
For the most part, the 'roar is good as is IMO. The things I would change/tweak:
Add the same quests in the main areas to the 'roar. For example, I really think that the lost cargo run for the merchants would fit very well in the area.
Also, I would consider buffing the value of voyages in the roar a bit. My feel on it is that with the very much hostile nature of the roar, voyages should include 'hazard pay' when selling the loot.
The rest, volcanoes erupting at the port, geysers being random, I'm OK with. Dedicated spots for geysers might be 'more realistic', but realism isn't a core aspect of the game. :)

That would be great

The Roar loot is worth more, but as we currently get those in the rest of the seas, it has lost its appeal. IMO Ashen loot should not be found anywhere but the Roar, perhaps except as reward for an Ashen lord thematically.

My ideas:
-
Ashen loot only in the Roar and from Ashen Lords
-
Add some more locations. A sea fort north of FP and another south of DT.
Or you could build them into a volcano. Also put Treasury of Ashen Waves (please call it that) somewhere. Maybe south of AR. -
Make Roar voyages more risky. For example, vaults now activate the volcano after you take the chest of tribute. So you should leave getting it to the end, so you can run back to your ship. Lost Shipment voyages can spawn kegs along the route (no markers). And also add Ghost Ship ones.
-
Let Ashen Winds spawn in the Roar
-
De-Activate MPO volcano and let ships spawn there.
-
Ashen Legend of the Veil
-
Geysers spawn all around you, not on you.

This, the Devil's Roar is supposed to be a zone you choose to go into. So I agree with this take.
