Just had 3 volcanoes erupt every 5 minutes around me from rng. Like, this garbo is unplayable. Everything still aimbots too. Can ya'll tone this down so it is somewhat playable? Might actually get more players in there too.
The roar is still absolutely terrible
@liljimothy2306 It has been toned down. The roar has been nerfed enough.
Hows that phrase go? If you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen.
The roar is best with a crew, solo its a test of your determination.
@captain-coel it's literally no different than it was 2 years ago. Don't act like the roar is hard. It's not. It's just an annoyance. Eruptions need a minimum timer increase and earthquakes and geysers are all aimbot activated when you touch the island. It's laughably dumb. Everything should be randomly activated on realistic timers.
I had people in the forums telling me they removed the meatball aimbot. It still aimbots. Tested it earlier. Don't say it's nerfed when it isn't.

Have you seen the Roar when it came out in fall 2018? I guess not, because then you wouldn't ask for this...
I has been nerfed! Drasticly!Same as 2 years ago, yes, and that's fine, doesn't need more nerfing, the nerf 3-3,5 years ago is enough
Geysirs have no aimbot, but they spawn near the players, yes
Lavaballs have rng-based-aimbot (it feels to me), so every 20th rock or so flies to the spot you were...
When it came out, and you weren't on a galleon and still near an active vulcano it was 100% sure you will sink...now it's so easy, I can do an ashen athena run solo easilyDevil's roar is such a calm place to sail solo. Very few players venture over there, and with the amount it has been nerfed already means you don't even need to sail away from an active island if you can't be bothered too. Just have supplies and keep ship afloat and put out the fires at when it goes dormant. Can't imagine how you would've reacted to when it was first released.. That was fun! And worth every bit the x2 multiplier the loot gave you.
Agree on the title but disagree with the solution, I don't think the issue is the aimbot.
First of all I keep thinking that whoever claims that the Devil is (or ever was) HARD probably just lacks the critical thinking required to distinguish hard from tedious. In this game the only hard thing is PvP against good crews, the PvE content is accessible to everyone regardless of their skill, all the content has a difficulty that ranges from stuff that in other games are considered "tutorial" or "easy", "normal" in some rare cases. What really vary is how tedious a task is.
People claim the Devil was "harder" because volcanoes had aimbot, what's hard about that? if you know a volcano is going to destroy your ship you can just stay out of its range when it starts erupting, you got plenty of time to react. Having to wait for a volcano to stop erupting before going to that island otherwise you'll probably sink or die is neither hard nor fun, it's just tedious. Having the geyser blow from below a chest you're digging out forcing you to just take a step back and wait doesn't make the game hard, it makes it tedious as earthquakes do by impairing your movement. The reason why the Devil is almost always empty is not because it's hard, it's because: it's tedious, no World Events spawn there (haven't seen the Devil's Fort active in months) and there's only one activity that is worth doing there: vault stacking.
Volcanoes on islands atm just prevent you from going on that island while they're erupting. If you go there while they're active you are either gonna waste a lot of wood or sink (and possibly die repeatedly), basically there's no reason to go under an active volcano, you just wait it out and have plenty of time to react. Hard =/= plenty of time to react to something with the only counter play being waiting. I think the range of Volcanoes on islands should be reduced to a point where you can at least shoot yourself on the island, I think it would actually be cool and challenging to do an activity on land while trying to avoid the boulders, but currently you can't as the range is so big that you can only land in the boiling water surrounding the island. If someone is about to tell me to use a rowboat then no wonder why you think the Devil is hard if you use a incredibly irresponsible tactic as leaving your ship far away from you while doing something on an island, basically asking for it to get attacked or for someone to sneak on.
Geysers shouldn't spawn under the player while digging up a chest, it's just annoying.
Earthquakes shouldn't impair the player's movement, it's just annoying.
And, after making the Devil less tedious you could add actually challenging stuff and rewards for players to work for

This.
It's like the FoF, it is not difficult to clear at all. It's just really boring because of how long it is.
Same for sea forts and shrines. They offer no challenge and just take ages for not much reward.
They need to make things harder in a fair way. Not just increasing stats on enemies, but more making them smarter, etc.
Firebomb and blunderbomb skeletons come to mind. As well as skeleton crews with mixed skeleton types in waves.
Because currently, any decent player could do everything with their eyes closed (exaggeration obviously).
@schwammlgott 20th rock? Sail towards a volcano, anchor, then swim towards it. It will spew tons of rocks on your location getting closer and closer tracking you to the shore. It hasn't been nerfed. And it's not so much the aimbot versus the ridiculous timers of being able to erupt every 5 minutes. That's ridiculous. I can do ashen athenas solo too and I do all the time, it's not HARD. Just ANNOYING.
@pellahh I never said the issue was aimbot. I just said the aimbot hasn't been nerfed to what people were claiming. The issue is that timers should be tweaked and activation should not be automatic the second you step foot on the island. They should always be occurring but randomly. Earthquakes don't occur until you touch the island.
If a volcano erupts for 7-10 mintues then stops, it should not erupt again 5 mintues later. It's stupid.
@liljimothy2306 but it has been nerfed twice. You can deny it all you want but when the volcanos were first introduced it was bad. You couldn't sail through with out just being demolished. Now you can sail through an active volcano and its not a huge deal.
It's a determination check.
@captain-coel Fine. But it still aimbots and it isn't random. Regardless that isn't even the problem.
The Roar 100% needs a rework.
Currently it's just a few islands glued onto the side of the rest of the map. It's not included really.
So here are my proposals:
-
Make Morrow's Peak spawnable. Get rid of the volcano and let ships spawn there. Now people can begin voyages here and don't need to go out of their way to get here.
-
Rework volcanoes. Island volcanoes no longer erupt and prevent access to the island. Create a safezone near the shore where your ship is safe. So you don't spend ages waiting for an eruption to stop.
-
Fun environmental hazards. Geysers spawn AROUND you and not on you.
-
Ashen Sea Forts.
-
DR Ghost Ship voyages
The idea is to make it an enjoyable place to voyage, but also feel included in the map, and not just an extension.

Have you been here when the roar got added? If not, don’t say it didn't get a nerf, because you don’t know it then!
Edit: so it's annoying...fine...if it wouldn't be annoying, what's the difference then to the other regions? Why should the treasures be more valuable then? If you don’t like it, don’t go there...

A big NO to all of this

I like these ideas except for the safe zone but volcanoes need to be made more random. As well as bring the Roar into the rest of the map like you said make it spawn-able add maybe another outpost up north and add forts into it so its like the rest of the map.

@schwammlgott Or you know just don't make everything eye roll activated based on where you are
I'm a non native english, so it would be nice, if you would use punctuation marks in the sentence...this one is hard to understand
Ever seen active volcanos while no one is in the roar? They only are active when someone is there, or near it...
That's fine, why should servers waste power to active geysirs and volcanos when nobody is there?@schwammlgott said in The roar is still absolutely terrible:

Huh? volcanoes are the only thing that activate when no one is there. Everything else is player activated.
I tried to get killed by a volcano a week or two ago, not a single island erupted during the 30 minute wait time I had, except for the island furthest away.
Like others has stated, the day and the weeks to follow after the Roar came out was chaos, you would DIE if you were close to a volcano since you got hit by 5 rocks in a matter of 5 seconds. Now you can afk inside the area of an active volcano and come back and expect to still be alive. Sure, it's annoying when it "locks" to you and kills you but it happens so extremely rarely these days I wouldn't even worry about it. If you really see it as a problem, look up then, the volcano-rock doesn't follow you around. You have multiple seconds to do something about it.
Devils Roar is in desperate need of an update however, only reason to be there prior to the most recent update was to do Ashen Athena and now when the new Voyage is 100x better, the Roar will be even more abandoned sadly.
Did the Athena 10 Grind in the devils roar, with alliance ships - without the alliance it wouldnt have been worth the trouble. the roar was horrid. just a super annoying mostly empty and lifeless feeling place way of the beaten paths. there was not much there to do. it felt static too, even with the annoyance from geysers, volcanos, earthquakes, hot water and yeah the aimbot of all of these. everything just took longer and was less fun. the roar made me stop playing for 3 years and i kid you not when i say this. i dont know how its now. i will go back there eventually to finish some commendations but i dont mind if it gets removed from the game entirely to get 6 ships back on the main map, portals are clearly the better solution to introduce different game world expansions. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ on the other hand i would enjoy a larger map too. the edges could expand into a wider more vast sea with fewer islands & further apart.
@itz-majman You're lying since the maximum time to erupt is 20 minutes. Yes it's possible all volcanoes can take 20 minutes which isn't the issue. Dial it back to 10-15 minutes max if it matters. The problem is them erupting every 5 minutes to where you can't even sail to and from the island without it erupting. Not hard, just a time waster.
" Now you can afk inside the area of an active volcano and come back and expect to still be alive." No you can't, it still aimbots you and your ship if you're in the vicinity. If you're anchored it will sink.
@coyote4711 It's not as bad but the issue is just how volcanoes can deny island visits permanently if you're unlucky.
Like if I wait out an eruption, it should not erupt again the moment I bring my sloop over and raise sails. It's just braindead annoying.
Make Morrow's Peak a spawn, but the rest of it can go. Especially the volcano safe zone lol 😆

I do think the roar needs some rework and more reasons to sail their for the most part it’s dead over there I think the volcanos going off should be rare and only one island at a time but it goes for longer and in a larger area. Let’s say a volcano goes off once every 30 mins or so on a random island and it covers two blocks out from that island with rocks and as you get near to said island it’s gets to smoky to see the water still boils and there’s still quakes too
I'm lying? I was actively trying to die by one, was over at the Outpost and nothing erupted for the entire time except Ashen Reaches.
Funny how you seem to know everything about the game mechanics, times, features and so on
Volcano aimbot is easy to avoid - just keep moving! It targets where you are; not where you will be. As long as you don't get caught on the island with your anchor down, you should do just fine...
⛰️⛵️.........🌋🏝
There are typically large rocks near the islands where the volcano cannot reach - I just sail out to those and use the time to eat a sandwich.
