Currency for starting supplies

  • Would love to see a new currency specifically for buying starting supplies. Players could make more currency by selling storage crates at the end of the game to the merchant alliance.

  • @mizter-man supplies cost the following:

    • Cannonball Crate costs 5,000 gold
    • Fruit Crate costs 3,500 gold
    • Storage Crate costs 17,500 gold
    • Wood Crate costs 3,500 gold

    A storage crate is unsellable

For the others the max sell prices are 2.750 (at emmisary grade V) which for all is lower then they are being sold for, the only difference being if they are being requested with a voyage from a bottle, then the absolute max sell price is: 4.750 which is only sligthly higher then the original sell price and when you have such a map you can get the crate for free from any trader anyways, only difference being that they are empty and it needs to be delivered to a specific outpost.

These prices do not include gold-rush or double gold and XP days

Since they are limited for purchase with a decent cooldown of a couple of in game days per outpost and the amount of gold that is earned in the odd occasion someone has a message in a bottle quest for it i don’t see a need to add a specific currency or change it in any way.

It is not a valid money making strategy lets say this is your target and thus you pass every outpost and purchase all sellable crates lets say golden sands even counts in this strategy even though it is currently uninhabited:

    You spent:

    7 x 5000 (cb crate) = 35000
    7 x 3500 (wood) = 24500
    7 x 3500 (fruit) = 24500

For a total gold spent of 84000

Now lets say you sell during gold rush on a double gold weekend and all will be sold with them being requested by a map while you have merchant grade V emmisary (the likelihood of this happening is exactly 0% btw since the maps are rng and not common)

The total gross profit will be between 189000 and 299250
Net profit between 105000 and 215250

In that same amount of time you could have done the following, swing by each outpost and buy commodities (more net profit per item) and on your route pass each and every seafort without having to go to the roar and back you will have made much MUCH more gold. even without double gold or gold rush.

Especially since outside of these times (gold rush, double gold) the only way to actually make gold of off them is by having the specified map which again are not common and thus will you be making a loss on each of the crates

  • Kinda pointless adding another currency for something like this, you can already buy them with gold.

I would rather see us being able to sell our supplys for a more reasonable sum in a user friendly manner (via supply crate for example), since at the end of the session it all goes to waist.

  • @callmebackdraft in theory and the math looks great. But you forgot to add the players sinking a starting player right away and taking their 85000 investment. It currently takes way to long for players to get a decent amount of supplies and definitely shouldn’t cost 17k for an empty crate. And and 50 cannonballs is very little when it comes to any naval battle.

Either it should be made easier to get a decent amount of supplies, players should start with more supplies or PvE should drop significantly more supplies.

It is difficult to get any action in game when you have to spend 17k and an hour to get set up. Not to mention, for new players or players with short play times, this makes every session a loss.

Nobody would suffer from more starting supplies except people who spawn sink boats for no reason.

85k is not when just starting that is after visiting all the outposts on the map....

have you even visited sea forts yet ? one visit with a storage crate and you will be set for ages

all skelly ships drop supplies, sea forts has tons of supplies, lords of the sea tall tale drops lots of supplies

no it really isnt, not only have supplies been made able to purchase, which is a great way to start, the empty storage crate is expensive for a reason, you can empty the starting outpost in about 5 minutes and double up on the starting supplies you purchased

Nobody would suffer from more starting supplies except people who spawn sink boats for no reason.

i have a feeling you have been sailing inneficiently for a while, this is not meant with any disrespect but since the purchasing of supplies and especially the sea forts supplies are so easy to come by its actually insane and a source of complaint for many

Not if it's a Storage Crate of the Damned. 😉

Have you even visited sea forts yet? One visit with a storage crate and you will be set for ages!

That's been my new go-to for supplies for exactly that reason. So much food! 😊

It takes you that long!? Man, you're slow! 😅
Only takes me about 3 minutes, if that. 🏁
