Game freezes after 30 or so minutes.

  • Hello, all!

I have had a massive resource-hogging issue since the latest update, and have been trying to solve this issue and used every fix I can think of besides completely uninstalling and reinstalling the game. I load the game and everything is fine at first, I don't record, I do nothing other than play the game but after about 30 minutes of sailing, the frame rate drops and it doesn't respond much. It then lags my computer itself to the point where it took me 10 minutes to reach the task manager, which showed that sea of thieves + steam were both hogging up all of my resources. I have: updated drivers, made sure windows 10 itself was up to date, rebooted the computer, etc. Nothing helps and I'm not sure what to do, I have never had a problem like this before and every search for a solution comes up with nothing.

Should I try to uninstall and reinstall the game?

    CPU: Intel Core i5-6600
    GTX 1070

  • @moiraburtz It sounds like a few people are also having the same problem. Be sure to raise a ticket with support and they should be able to help you with what is going wrong.

  • Is the fan working ? My friend has this when he turns it off because of sound recording.

That might be the case, but I wouldn't know how to fix it if it was. Then again I might just need to do a good dusting in the case, I haven't had the time to recently lol, even then I checked and the fan was set to a low speed, so maybe? I've been playing other games with no such issues, so I don't know if it's overheating. I've seen a lot more people with a similar issue so I'm hoping it's not just me and that something happened with the recent update.

My previous PC would make a sound as if it was setting off to the moon when playing sometimes, my current one won't stay silent either but it's not as bad.

Can you have the temperature show ? See if it's getting hotter while playing &c.

My mate's PC would always shutdown when playing our 3rd Arena game or when in the tavern after 2 matches, so about 30 minutes.

  • @lem0n-curry So, it turns out my CPU was overheating, and there was a few dust bunnies in the case. Cleaned it up and it's working a lot better now, it's still lagging a bit after a time though, so it's not completely solved, but at least I can play the game lol. Thank you for helping!

    Glad to hear it
See you on the seas :).

    Ahoy!

I had exactly the same problem when I was playing on my Xbox. It was overheating like your computer.
To lag as little as possible, avoid using fire (It's not necessarily easy I know) and especially the worst was the battles with the skeleton ships.
