Self lowering emissary flag

  • We should get the ability to break our emissary flags without voting on the emissary table. When we have ann emissary flag on, and a reaper grade 5 heading, and also the outpost is far away, we will not have much time. But if we can just break our own emissary flag, we can stop reaper grade 5 from knowing where we are

That would be bad cause you loose all gold and rep bonus. Maybe instead ability to lower others emissary flags? If you drop G5 Reapers flag they wont see you anymore and you still get nice bonus on payday!

  • Another post of someone not using the Emissary system properly.

Raising the flag is a RISK. If a Reaper V is chasing you YOU FIGHT THEM unless they are a bigger ship in which case you can run and try and sell.

You took a RISK. Don't try to remove the RISK.

  • Sounds like it just makes the game too easy without bringing anything beneficial to Reapers...

Oh, there's a reaper chasing you? Just break the flag and dump it in the ocean as you go around a rock so then the Reapers don't get any benefit from you and make the flag selling commendations harder.

    You can already do that.

    Scuttle.

If you don't want the risk of another player having sight of you and your ship of loot, don't raise emissary or don't stray too far away from an outpost.

  • How about you break their flag instead of your own one and minimise the risk that way.
But if you really intend to destroy your own flag I recommend self scuttling your ship, obviously you will need a rowboat to save what little loot and resources you might have aboard.

Remember emissary are HUGE RISK WITH HUGE REWARDS so if you can’t handle reapers or other pirates wanting your loot and flag then don’t fly them to lower your risk of being sunk

  • Being able to break your own flag could also potentially mean being trolled by your own crew, if implemented poorly.

  • this is a stupid idea but, what if you could take down you flag then put it back up saving your status

  • @imonlyuseful

And people thought popup reapers were bad before...

  • reaper grade 5 heading, and also the outpost is far away, we will not have much time.

    Risk and reward.

Also, even without the flag…reapers will still know you have loot if already chasing.

Besides. People complained about able to vote down to quickly these days. When being chased

  • No, but then the pvp would die. If this addition was added, you will only get 100 gold for what you sell.
Because then the pvp will be dead and this will be a exploit.

  • @gameformula2828 The option to lower your flag from anywhere already exists. In the crew tab select "scuttle" you will lose your emissary flag and the reaper wont know where you are. Problem solved.

It’s odd Rare claims this is a PvP game and yet things like the Red Sea deleting loot and lowering emissary flags in a flash are considered fair game and appropriate conduct. Personally it makes no sense to me. Imagine playing a sport and the other team just leaving mid match and then feeling like they were victorious.

Rare have never claimed this to be PvP game. It is PvPvE pirate adventure sandbox. Red sea and lowering emissary flag are both super easy to deny if you know how to approach your target. Red sea must be allowed because it is the only way to deny loot. If pirate that wants your loot ain't good enough to catch you it is good that there is a way to make them lose the loot at least. Lowering flag in outpost is also very good, cause pirate that can't sink you in open waters or just camps near outposts shouldn't be rewarded.

  • @mintharp184509
That is why you don't waste time chasing for ages and practice approach instead. When engaging in a way that is favorable to you it is easy to stop other ships from running. Nowadays we have chainshots to 1 shot mast down. It hasn't been this easy to stop other ships ever in this game. You need more practice if you feel like everyone can always outrun or should I say outsmart you.

  • @mintharp184509
No need to be offended. You have 5 days at sea. You will eventually get better. Few tips:

    1. Always approach from wind that is better to you
    2. Always approach in an angle that enemy literally has to sail past you to get into "better" wind
    3. Never chase directly towards red sea or outpost, cut the route and deny access
  • @mintharp184509
I know it's frustrating man, no need to lash out to me. Just keep practicing and eventually you will get grip of these things.

  • @mintharp184509
    Your welcome my friend.
    Enjoy spring time!

  • I'm guessing OP was on a Sloop and the Reapers had a Brigantine. In which case, yeah, you're doomed. And that won't change until Rare rebalances the ships someone.

  • @cinnumann
Days at sea only counts for the forums here. You aren't talking to a noob.
@mintharp184509 has a point. You're understating how hard it is to approach a competent crew. We're not talking about the battle, we're talking about seeing you coming 5 squares away. Sure, you can use a rowboat, but no one uses those for every single encounter. If you have a reaper flag up, only someone who isn't attentive is going to get ambushed. If you have no flag, you can sail towards them behind a rock, but that strategy is hit & miss, and most of the time you're at least a square away afterward, giving them a chance to spot you.
I'm not saying that any crew can deny you a battle, just that you make it sound easy to catch and sink a competent crew (determined to avoid the battle) when it's not.

You just made a bad idea even worse

  • @butterfinger750 right? I mean theres a system in place already. It's just flying no emissary when doing voyages.

  • @gameformula2828 "hey so i engaged in the risk reward system but I would really just like to have the reward without the risk exx dee"

  • As a reaper 5 I should have a button that sinks all emissaries too because that's fair

  • @capt-soul-beard What about the harpoon can grab emissary flags off an enemy ship? Would certainly help against red sea runners as you'd at least get the flag to sell.

    Nah. Too easy.

  • @grumpyw01f
Maybe I have only encountered incompetent crews during my 4 years in this game. Could be.
