Alliance chat (IN-GAME)

  • Communication is one of the most important factors, and in this game even more. I don't understand why there is still no in-game alliance text chat. There should be an exclusive chat for alliances and in-game communication.

This could be quite simple to implement and is something very necessary in the game.
It is as simple as putting a key that activates either the normal chat or the alliance chat, and you can communicate with them all over the map, not locally.

Many games have this element and it is very important if you want to have a good communication. Right now the alliances if you are not with them in discord you can't organize well to attack an enemy, or whatever you want to do with them.

Thanks for reading and I hope this comes to Sea Of Thieves in the future.

  • @bucky8871 Alliances are meant to be uneasy. No communication makes deception and alliance breaking easier. Im a fan of that trust remaining uneasy.

  • Imo this is the sort of stuff that should have been implemented rather than the alliance gold rewards

Creating a cheese feature doesn't really improve the game or even often help organic alliance creations

Qol perks outside of gold cheesing makes alliances stronger as a community feature imo. As an option, it's not mandatory but I think it adds something of substance to the feature and experience.

  • @captain-coel The alliances are not meant to be uneasy, it is true that some people use them inappropriately but I am not talking about those people. If you can't have a minimal chat communication there is no point in allying with someone.

Since there is the function of being able to ally with someone, there should be the function of having a chat to be able to talk there and that the enemies cant read, as simple as that.

  • @bucky8871 go watch the videos from when alliances where put in. They are meant to be uneasy. Your safety is not meant to be absolute.

  • There should be an exclusive chat for alliances and in-game communication. or the alliance chat, and you can communicate with them all over the map, not locally.

Explain why tho? When another ship is in an alliance is way across the map...you shouldn't be able to talk with them. You dont need it.

Simple? sure. But not for consoles on controllers with very limited keys and binds can be added.

very important if you want to have a good communication.

Even the best communication can turn into a problem.

Right now the alliances if you are not with them in discord you can't organize well to attack a enemy, or whatever you want to do with them.

Sail to your fellow alliance bros in arms, open up Mic/Chat box and start up a conversation. Plan what you gonna do before spreading out, and if there is trouble (as realism) Sail across the sea to meet up with your fellow pirates.
Not everyone uses Discord and frankly if its a must to join an alliance, not a good set of players. again...Consoles. But we have Party Chat :p

They should. You should never fully trust another crew, even if you team up.

If you can't have a minimal chat communication there is no point in allying with someone.

The point of alliancing is to team up and split loot. or if you plan to betray, use the alliance to your advantage.
Even rare encourages both ways of playing.

Since there is the function of being able to ally with someone, there should be the function of having a chat to be able to talk there and that the enemies cant read, as simple as that.

Giving alliances their own chat would be pretty stupid & would give alliances a pretty big advantage. like talking to someone on the other side of the map, while youre being attacked or something. Even thoo alliance servers kinda do that already with their discord servers.
But we don't need a function ingame that would give any alliance this advantage.

If you want to talk to other allianced players, just ad them to discord, or use the whisper function with the trumpet. Or simply talk normaly ingame.

To organize the communications on the map, for example to tell them to make a FOTD together, cut a boat from "x" direction, there are thousands reasons, sometimes it is better to think before writing these comments.

Simple? sure. But not for consoles on controllers with very limited keys and binds can be added.

This also does not make sense, you can bind the same button that you are already using to activate the alliance chat. (Same as on ARK for example)

Exactly, not everyone uses discord, and not having an alliance chat in the game forces them to use it when it shouldn't be necessary at all.

No one has said that their safety is absolute, you can meet people who are really very good people and very worthwhile, and people who betray you. This always happens in every game.

There is a part of people in the game who are good people and want to benefit from allying themselves in the game. No ally chat, no communication = same as no alliance (usseles).

    I disagree.

No more perks. They are already strong enough.

I agree that gold cheesing should have never been implemented; the flags should have only been cosmetic. But then the purple tags made it too easy to keep track of who you were allied with, and removed the ability for others to infiltrate (without actually joining first). What OP is suggesting would add another unnecessary buff to a group that already has strength in numbers.

I think a feature like this would only be appropriate in private servers; though it would just be redundant, as the players using those are probably already using discord or xbox party chats.

  • Stay within firework range of your alliance members if you want to communicate at a distance.

  • Alliances need 0 buffs.

Alliances need this element to be useful, otherwise they have no use in the game. The alliances in all games have their respective chat so the enemies cant read any kind of strategy, this game is not far behind, in fact this game requires much more communication than many others.

His use without a respective chat is useless, people use it to farm gold, which is even more OP, and makes less sense than having an alliance chat.

  • Alliances already have enough power. Perhaps if they added a "messenger pigeon" mechanic so you could send short messages, but they take like 10 minutes to arrive to the other ship

Bro no one uses alliances for combat strategy, a part from the occasional streamer. It ain't the deep bro, everyone uses it to get bonus gold and then say "go away and do your own thing"
It's sad that's how it is, cause Alliances would be a lot cooler if there was more of a reason to stay close and interact, but a chat system wouldn't fix it; it'd add more reason to go to the other side of the map and ignore your alliance until they desperately need something.

  • @bucky8871 said in Alliance chat (IN-GAME):

Straight off the bat that is the most incorrect sentence I've read in the past couple of months. I have no clue where you picked up that mentality but good grief, get rid of it.

it is true that some people use them inappropriately

Killing your own alliance isn't using them inappropriately... Let me guess, killing people when they're parked at an outpost is toxic too...?

but I am not talking about those people. If you can't have a minimal chat communication there is no point in allying with someone.

Gold and rep, which is the only reason people actually alliance with random people.

  • @bucky8871 Alliances are useful. Shared loot, reputation and you can literally see each other on the map at all times. If you want an alliance chat, use Discord or an Xbox party, or whatever you want outside of SoT. BUT they do not need any more in-game buffs, especially because majority of alliances made nowadays aren't actually people getting together randomly, they are alliance servers.

No one uses alliances in that way because there is no type of communication with people that you do not know, it is not necessary to look for any other type of explanation.

Oh I have not talked about that at any time in the post, this is intended for the alliance chat, not for things that you are deriving.

Gold and rep, which is the only reason people actually alliance with random people.

That your allies give you gold and reputation when selling makes even less sense than having a chat through which to communicate.

People do that out of interest to get extra gold, but that is not the point of an alliance. Having an ally chat is just millions times more sensible than getting gold by selling your own allies, common sense.

I dont think you understand what a signal flare is for.

  • @bucky8871 I don’t want it that easy to communicate since as others stated alliances should be uneasy.

But I would be down for like a letter system to be added to the game where you can open communication with other crews via letters that will take 30 seconds or so to deliver via mermaid or parrot!

  • @nitroxien this destroys the minimalist ui quasi realistic feel that sea of thieves has. Just have a code where you throw up a reapers mark if you want to talk/need help.

  • @lackbarwastaken hold on imagine a system where you go sit at the captain table to there be able to write a letter.

I feel that would add to the feel of the game not take a way! And it won’t remotely altar the ui.

  • @nitroxien I would favor that more, maybe make a 2 minute delay for messages written in that way.

    That actually sounds good!

  • Just this morning, my brig of 3 open crew spotted a sailor sloop sailing towards us as we unloaded our loot at Sanctuary Outpost. Not taking any chances, we set sail and fired a few warning shots. It returned fire, missing horribly. I took an opportunity to board, and was successful - I then dropped his anchor, killed him, and stole his 1 piece of loot. It was a villainous skull, which I quickly sold. He respawned and tried to sail away. My crewmate hit his mast with a chainshot, putting a stop to that. I then reboarded and prompted him to join our alliance. It took some time, because we had to show him how, but the profit he made from our remaining loot made him so happy that he wanted to make our brig crew of 3 into a brig crew of 4. He left shortly after, but not before learning a few new sword techniques, like how to dodge with the sword, and saying thank you.

Alliances are fun, weird, and unpredictable, and that's exactly how it should be.

    GG, from GG! 🖖😁

  • @captain-coel Your sick

  • I saw this proposed somewhere and I feel would be also great for immersion purposes.

How about that bird cage, would host a pigeon, that would also take some time to fly to the other ship and you would just need to check yourself without any notifications etc.

If people are against it, because they feel alliances are 'overpowered' they could limit communication to that generic chat wheel, where you could only send some kind of generic or situational message.

    'Help'
    'World Event'
    'Reaper'
    Or something similar.
This would still leave a lot of room for deception and treason
