Please stop Lazy Players from Server Hopping for Easy Loot.

  • @xdogglegacy said in Please stop Lazy Players from Server Hopping for Easy Loot.:

@wolfmanbush there is no reason to jump 3 servers in 5 minutes other then the fact you are looking for certain ships for pvp. Or you are a lazy pirate hopping to get a ship with a big turn in. You are trying to counter my suggestion with silly logic, a wait timer doesn't harm people who just want to play the game. A timer would only restrict the player that constantly jumps looking for a populated server. You could still server hop, but it would slow the rate with a timer.

I hop to get the world event I want, or to spawn at the right outpost for a tall tale. Seems your "facts" are just coming from a salty bias.

  • There should not be any timer on "server-hopping".

Since Arenas (unnecessary) shutdown there have been players who sink the Reapers and leave, yes, but it's not their fault.

These people are generally sat on a mountain of gold (I know I am) and just sink everyone, sometimes they just leave the loot floating there. No one really cares bout the loot, they just want a good fight against someone. And if they sink everyone in the server, then what so they do...world events? The really easy and generally unrewarding thing they have probably done 10000000 times already?

I agree it can be annoying to have people leave mid-session. But if people want to go do PvP, maybe just dedicate your current session to PvP and return to PvX next time, or leave as well. If someone else doesn't want to do world events or voyages, then so be it. It's their decision. They are not permanently tied to the current server just because they joined.

  • Honestly I use server hopping to make sure there is no reaper on my server. It is the best way for me to get the "largely pve" experience I want xd

  • It is not lazy to server hop. PVE just is not fun after a while so I only do it for commendations which gets boring after a bit.

What seems to happen with being G5 Reaper, is other players sell & drop the flag then either log off or attack risking nothing but the supplies on their ship. So it is not all in the Reaper's favor. Then faced with a dead server hopping is the only real option. Each hop is also a gamble that takes time, I have even come back to the same server twice in a row. Once from a glitch & then just dumb random chance. That cost 15min of playtime. The only downside is that say I find a full server, hunt down the nearest ship, and lose, all they get is my flag. Really I think they deserve more.

So I like a suggestion I saw Fuzzy make, here it is with a few adjustments of my own.

If a player hops doing a tall tale, their place on the server is saved for 15 - 20min. If they cancel then they automatically return to the same server. My guess is now that a pirate's life has been going for some time very few people are doing that tall tail so it is unlikely that servers will have a lot of people hopping out of them at once. This would give you the cooldown you wanted BUT we make hopping a grad 5 voyage for each trading company with each working a little different. The best way to implement this is once the performance is upgraded, keep the standard server at 5 with the 6th slot for the hopper.

For the main companies & Athena, they hop into any server whose world event has been inactive for the longest time. The world event closes and a new one spawns depending on the company. This new event has a new unique bit of loot is added to the payout for a new set of commendations for each company. Whatever the item is there are six different colors/versions of varying degrees of Rarity for max replayability. Just not as rare as the SG!

Athena: Spawns a FOF with a Gilded CoL as well as the standard one.
GH: Spawn's standard fort with Horn of gold, the skull of gold etc.
OOS: Spawns ashen winds with the skull of fate, these come in the six different lantern colors each with its own accommodation.
MA: Spawns Skelly fleet, stolen manifest, and crate with 4-5 Wraithballs

    For Reapers

Reapers: Voyage costs 10k & this gets added to the payout when the Broken Reaper flag is cashed in. Reapers load directly into the server with another G5 reaper and if none are available then the one with the most emissary flags. This would maximize the PVP play for those who want PVP and give a payout for the "defending" ship. Flame hearts laugh plays for the other emissaries when you arrive giving them a heads up. Better yet, when you hop the first time in a session you get a pink reaper flag, a second time a blue etc until you hit black. Other players sinking you can hand in one of these six colors to the Reapers Hide out for another set of accommodations.

  • I hunt reapers because when you put up the reaper flag u by default are accepting the risk of pvp. Other then that I don't actively hunt emissaries

  • @miserenz

If a player hops doing a tall tale, their place on the server is saved for 15 - 20min. If they cancel then they automatically return to the same server.

I liked what you said, but this is a no. There are more reasons to serverhop than to just PvP. Serverhopping doesn't need to be limited. I'm all for solutions that incentivizing not serverhopping, though.

  • Justify why we should stop.

  • @xdogglegacy said in Please stop Lazy Players from Server Hopping for Easy Loot.:

@wolfmanbush I am not new to the game I know all these tactics. I still think people that just want to hop constantly are poisonous to the game. I out smarted one guy by decoying him while our rowboat sold our treasure, he taunted me telling me I suck at the game and that my level 5 reaper flag was enough payment. I watched the map as he logged out without selling it to join the next server to find a better loot haul. People that just quick join servers constantly ruin the community, I liked arena as much as the next guy. Removing arena brought all the toxic players that have no time to actually play the game and would rather hop and hop, checking the map and the tables for a lot of action. I don't think a timer that stops people from quick joining more then 3 servers within 5 mins making them wait a bit is not a bad idea.

Some people suck. They really do. The solution isn’t always to change the games design. “Gamer” culture is its own problem. I Idunno why people feel the need to be mean when they win, but they do. That’s a social issue with young men that’s probably never going away.
In the mean time, let’s ban the ones who we can record saying truly heinous things or who message offensive material in Xbox chat.

  • There does not need to be a cool down on changing servers.

A lot of people get placed on dead servers quite a bit and will want to change (by dead I don't mean empty I just mean a bunch of people sailing about doing voyages or whatever, generally signified by lack of emissaries).

Lots of people, including me, will want to joins server with Reapers and other emissaries so we can go and hunt them down. Telling me to wait 10 minutes to join back after a left a boring server is plain stupid.

If people join and start demanding you sell your loot, just say no. Or brig them. If your teammates join in, then sell because majority wins, open crews have always been a mess anyways.

So I'm conclusion, lots of servers do not suit a players needs, be it a world event they do not wish to do, no Reapers to fight or no emissaries to hunt down. People should be allowed to quit and search again to find another server that's a bit more exciting.

    The end.

  • DEVS DONT LISTEN TO THIS GUY.

HE SPEAKS FOR HIMSELF ALONE. SERVER HOPPING IS GREAT AND YOU SHOULDNT GET RID OF IT.

  • @dynamicmouse18
I agree with him. He speaks for some part of community. I support server hopping as long as you lose everything and have to start over.

  • As I said in another thread, lets tie the portal/server hopping together with things like red sea despawn wall and loot disintegration/Reaper visibility and the rapid decline of emissary population on the server when a Reaper 1 is sighted. Fix one, fix them all. Leave one, leave them all.

Removing portal hopping or the ability to rapidly hop servers manually is fine if we also remove the ability to despawn loot on command and remove the ability for emissary ships to go lower at the first sight of a Reaper 1 crew at a 15 minute sail across the map from you.

Everyone can stay on the server they start, PvE crews are free from instant Reaper 5's UAVing them as they spawn in (hopping removed), PvP crews no longer have to strive for 100% stealth sight unseen from 3 islands away until they are on top of the other ship (red sea no longer allows you to reach the despawn wall to push loot outside of it), and Reapers no longer have to sink emissary ships and then raise the flag and do PvE to up-level before selling to be efficient at hunting emissary ships (Reaper visbility removed until grade 5). Equal battleground for all.

  • @dynamicmouse18

Wait, this is right under my post...you realise I am for server hopping staying in the game right?

If you meant someone else then fair enough. But my post was about why it should stay :)

  • @ajm123 I play as a reaper and I have nothing against people who hunt reapers. I wish there were player bounties to make me more infamous and worthy of hunting too.

If you play a Reaper and you aren't willing to be hunted, or even tricked into a fight you're not really a Reaper in my book

  • @fgfoot said in Please stop Lazy Players from Server Hopping for Easy Loot.:

I dont think you can change it, i dont see any fair way to stop server hopping

By bouncing the player back to the previous server that they were in, by removing all resources they had before the server jump. By actually placing multiple spawn locations far enough for players to scout the horizon and make preparations. "Fair" possibilities are quite expansive, I assure you

  • @red0demon0
Currently, SOT is limited to 5 ships per server. Server hopping is a way of expanding the game to increase the number of ships that you can interact with. It should not be stopped, it is a great feature. HOWEVER, that does not mean it should not be tweaked a bit. BUT that is a definite no to the losing resources side of things. I would rather drop G5 reaper, raise another for a bit and then go back to Reaper once more emissaries turned up than hop and lose the 50 chain, meat etc. I had spent 2hr collecting then have to fight a over-stocked ship.

My guess is that if something like what I suggested is implemented then what we would end up with is G5 emissaries of all types jumping servers, renewed interest in world events because if the world event was triggered by a hopper you could steal the commendation, people staying G5 for longer to finish the world event to get the commendation etc.

That is a lie, the game already has a system in place for helping players migrate to a new server, if it doesn't do it well, then Rare should then focus on making that better. Server hopping is not and will never be an excuse for server migrations. You and I both know the only reason why the majority of players do it is to circumvent the natural original system, taking advantage of the tall tale portal mechanic, to pounce on other players unsuspectingly. Even the original system of player migrations warns all players of the server merge, and drops new players distance away from each other, not smack nearby with full sails and fully loaded with a bunch of different types of balls. One doesn't prep for a server merge, but for sure they do for a server hop. You have your opinion that it's great, I have mine that it's a dumb, extremely flawed system that should have been better tested before it came out. The people who hop to chase after events are in the minority, in fact, it doesn't take too long to collect resources for an event to begin with. Keep resources, fine, let them keep it, but then also don't keep this "feature" hidden behind the tall tale portals mechanic. That is a shady and pathetic way for devs to support such a system. It's like keeping something hidden but still available because you support it but you're ashamed of it

  • @red0demon0
What is a "lie"? For something to be a lie it has to have two qualities, not be true, and the person stating it must know it to be false. I do not think my posts qualify for the first quality and certainly not the second quality. So please keep it civil.

I hop because I do not want to have to grind back up to G5 again and lose my resources. I want to do the fun part. Every time I finish as well I leave my resources on the dock for a fresh spawn.

I fully think we should have a cue that lets other emissaries know when a G5 reaper turns up through a portal. Just like everyone gets a warning for the server merge.

So did you read my suggestion above coz it seems to be what you want (if portal hopping is kept).

  • I'm going to tell you the story of what happened today while I was playing with my brother in this game and I hope any devs weighing the situation will consider this story for why server migration should be kept.

So my brother and I got on and we just got some new sails, specifically the Warsmith sails that make our sails look like the Devil with a Spear lol.

Anyways we sank a few ships and got our ship up to Reaper tier 4.

Suddenly my brother shouts out "I see a sloop!" and we notice that the sloop isn't alone. He has a friend and both of them are gold hoarder tier 4.

So we approach them and suddenly a volcano erupts nearby us and hits our ship, bringing our mast down. Well we think we're screwed now since we're close to them and they'll probably shoot us down and sink us now.

But miraculously, they all came onto our ship and helped patch up our boat, and bailed us out. Then we told them that we're actually "good reapers" and that we hunt the "bad reapers". Surprisingly they bought our story and we all played music together for an entire song.

Then we agreed to go and fight the world boss together. After all, 3 sloops taking on the world boss with 6 people could handle it right?

My brother and I communicated verbally with the two gold-hoarder ships, but non-verbally we knew we were going to betray them, and getting them preoccupied with fighting the world boss was the perfect way to do it.

So we rolled up, and then lo and behold we see a 4th sloop. Who shouts at us "please alliance, please don't kill me"

Oh we planned on killing him alright, but we used the megaphone and shouted at him "Hey bro it's fine we're gonna do the world boss too, you can join us! See the two ships with us? We're all friends!"

Well my brother goes onto the island to help them fight the world boss while I shoot at the boss with cannons. But what my brother really does, is grab a gunpowder barrel and says he's going to use it on the world boss.

Then he moves onto one of the gold hoarder ships and blows it to smithereens. What ensues is an epic battle with high stakes and high rising emotions as they shouted at us "YOU'RE BETRAYING US AFTER WE HELPED YOU" and also other obscenities were shouted due to them being very mad.

Anyway the fight felt epic and we felt like villains, because we were. One ship was down, but we had to fight two other ships. So we did our best and through clever tactics and the fact that they were caught unawares we were able to take them both down.

One of the players escaped on a rowboat with his tier 4 gold hoarder flag in the chaos, and we tried to chase the rowboat down. But we realized that the 3 other ships had respawned and were going to come try and get revenge. So what did I do?

I was unable to get the loot, but successfully killing them and betraying those guys was too sweet and we wanted to get away with our evil deeds. So I went below deck and activated the tall tale checkpoint. Opening a portal.

The three ships chasing us were RIGHT ON OUR TAILS, they were RIGHT BEHIND US and we were racing for the portal as they hunted us down. We kept shouting at them and using our megaphone to do an evil laugh as they chased us.

"WE BETRAYED YOU. WE GOT AWAY WITH IT! YES WE ARE EVIL. ITS CALLED SEA OF THIEVES NOT SEA OF FRIENDS!" etc

At the last second, we managed to get through the portal and escape, and man I have to tell you. The cutscene at the end where the sunrise comes over the water felt absolutely amazing and epic when we arrived in our new server.

We then proceeded to kill two more sloops, turned in our loot, and then we rammed a reaper galleon before logging off for fun.

So yeah I think server migration is pretty cool and I think if there's problems with it, maybe don't get rid of it, but add something that helps people against reapers I guess?

Anyway, thats my two cents. I think there's a lot of sore losers in this game who don't understand that the spirit of the game is pvp and piracy and betrayal.

  • @betrayer244

First off, <Censored> move but perfectly fair. They would have gotten your L5 flag plus any loot you had on your sloop but way to reinforce the running reaper meme. Also, you hopped out of the server so it is not quite what the other players were complaining about.

  • Why do want us gone so badly? The loot isn't the real treasure. The real treasure is the experience you learn from doing a challenge and the friends you make along the way. If you are doing fort of the damned, and if i steal it, and u try to fight, that will help u next time. Why would u want to dig chests? U will get bored at sometime and wanna pvp. It was same for me, i started to grind arena and got one of the most hardest titles in the game. Triumphant sea dog. Try to learn from fights, and encourage in one. If you come out victorious sinking them and if they had loot, you have just stolen from another crew. Easy loot. Try to fight instead of complaining. Play on specific servers. Probably you are on xbox so play on those servers.
    Good luck
