Missing "Good Boy" Ship Cosmetics

  • Original official "Saying Goodbye to The Arena" thread here: https://www.seaofthieves.com/community/forums/topic/144709/saying-goodbye-to-the-arena

"Those super-dedicated Arena players who have already reached Sea Dogs rank 50 will receive The Good Boy ship cosmetics as a rare bonus in addition to the sets listed above."

    I've received these cosmetics:
    The Azure Scout
    The Flaming Jackal
    The Golden Chaser
    The Lucky Rover
    The Regal Hound

but am completely missing The Good Boy set, despite being Sea Dogs Level 50 well before the original announcement or cutoff point was made.
"The cutoff point for being eligible for these rewards was today, January 27th at 6pm UK time. Rewards will be distributed after the closure of The Arena on March 10th."
Should I contact support or are other players running into the same missing content I am?

  • @s1lv3rh00d Ahoy matey!

Due to the amount of rewards given out... this could take up to 72 hours to fully reach everyone...

I would check again tomorrow to see if it has turned up.

  • @musicmee

Completely understandable. Just wanted to make sure. I appreciate your reply, thank you very much for your assistance!

  • @musicmee not to Karen, but Goodboy sets should have been prioritized since there would have been less of them to add.

There was a solid month for the work to be done...

72 hours , then a ticket if you don't get your stuff. These are being added manually............

  • @pithyrumble

If you've ever worked with mass rewards, such as using a bot to assign multiple roles on Discord, it takes a really long while until it reaches everyone. It's a process for sure but it makes sense that they were not able to roll out the rewards until after the update was already released. Their system is probably adding the rewards to the accounts that qualify for them. 72 hours is definitely reasonable. I'm sure they had this set up way before the update dropped, and they can only be given out now that the update is out.

  • @s1lv3rh00d

Don't get me wrong, I'm aware of functionality issues and rolling out product.

They had 72 hours from the cutoff announcement to confirm and distribute the rewards. This thread should have not been needed.

    This was a dropped opportunity.

I love our moderators, they do an amazing job with the amount of trash they're handed.

Corporate dropped the ball and should be called out.
I'm calling out corporate and you should too.

  • @pithyrumble they probably had the list of players ready ever since the cutoff anouncement. however the actual delivery time started the 10th of march, which is today.

Dishing out the rewards to players is what can take time and if pushed to hard can hurt service performance, thats what they have the 72 hour lead time for... that hasnt passed yet

  • @pithyrumble
    Sorry, was out at dinner.

"They had 72 hours from the cutoff announcement to confirm and distribute the rewards." "This was a dropped opportunity."

Those seem to be your own expectations, and it seems that Rare chose to distribute the items AFTER arenas officially closed. Why that is? Most likely to give something back to lessen the burn once Arena's was completely gone. I do not have a foolproof answer but it would make sense to give them out AFTER removing the mode. It hasn't been 72 hours since the mode closed and I have 5 out of 6 of the rewards, so I am glad that I have received that for the time being. That means that the rest of the playerbase must be getting theirs as well, which is a really good thing!

I personally don't agree with calling them out because Rare is in charge of the decision on how they want to handle removing their mode and how they want to celebrate the gamers who played it. This thread was supposed to be a support thread to see if other people are missing their items, not to call out Rare for not delivering the rewards for playing Arenas sooner than expected. If you want to complain about that, please make your own thread.

I am saying this as a fellow pirate: we need to reflect on ourselves and exercise patience and understanding rather than resorting to calling out "corporate", which sounds very Karen. I know that type of language was what you were initially trying to avoid but it still comes off that way; and I want to be very up front with you about it if that is something you're trying to work on.

  • @s1lv3rh00d

I'm not trying to work on anything.
Over a month to confirm and verify position, I don't mind the 72 hours, I already have my expected rewards.

    @CallMeBackdrafT

This was still a dropped opportunity tho. They knew for a month who was getting what. It's not Emissary Ledger that could potentially change at the last second. Your position was set and known as of Jan 27.

  • @pithyrumble yes but that doesnt mean the actual action of adding at least 5 shipsets to everybodies account that has level 5 and one extra for all the people that have level 50 is something to be scoffed at.

The gathering of the data isnt what takes days upon days to do, not even for emmisary ledgers. its the act of unlocking the cosmetics that puts stress on the systems, dishing out thousands if not millions of those messages accross the several microservices is best done in smaller batches as to not put unnecesary stress on said systems. and that is why they give themselve a safety net by saying it can take upto 72 hours each and every time they have to dish out stuff to a large quantity of players (emmisary ledgers, twitch drops, corrections due to something going wrong with gold etc)

it basicly has nothing to do with knowing who is eligable but making sure the eligable people get their stuff whilst safeguarding systems.

so in this case the "knowing who is eligable" has been known since about the 27th, i mean that is an easy query of their database:

"Select * from Arena_RepTable Where Level equal to 50" & "Select * from Arena_RepTable Where Level greater or equal to 5"

hey presto all is known this puts 0 load on their systems, however the unlocking which started on the 10th of march means that they have to inject messages into their message queuing system for all records retreived from those queries i expect that the one for people of level 5 and greater would have at least a million records in it. then there is the fact that since this is a one off they probably have to send a unlock message for each shipset this means:

    {number of people} * 5 = {Number of messages}, so for instance 1.000.000 * 5 = 5.000.000 (probably even more)

The act of sending those 5m messages is quite easy and done in maybe 30 minutes or so, however then it has to flow trough all their systems without risking deterioration of services and this number doesnt even take into regard the tens/hundreds of thousands that also had to receive the good boy.

having the 72 hour lead time is just a safety measure and most if not all will receive all their stuff well within that time frame and they communicate that time frime in order to not flood their support system with thousands and thousands of tickets of people complaining that they havent received the item quite yet.

  • @callmebackdraft said in Missing "Good Boy" Ship Cosmetics:

Probably even a message for each item in a shipset.

  • @s1lv3rh00d I understand and respect your stance, but people were promised an item and the promiser hasn't delivered. Surely, you can understand why several people are upset?

  • @boo-i-scared-ya
Absolutely. But 72 hours hasn't passed. 3 days. To roll out rewards en masse takes time. They are still being distributed. They said that it will take that long. I know friends of mine that have gotten it, and those who haven't. After 72 hours passes, it is completely legitimate to be upset. I received feedback here, on twitter, and through the official Sea of Thieves server saying that we should see it soon (after the 72 hours).

The communication has been good despite the issue only affecting a small amount of players. They couldn't have rolled it out sooner because Arenas hadn't ended yet, and this is on top of a whole new season update. It's not just a switch they can turn on or off and suddenly everyone gets these awards. I haven't received my awards yet but I am exercising patience. I will probably log in today and see them, who knows. I wouldn't worry until after the time has passed.

  • @boo-i-scared-ya
"We're aware that some players eligible for The Good Boy ship cosmetics have not yet received them.

The rollout is taking place over the course of a few days, and we will be monitoring this to ensure all eligible players receive the items.

An update will be provided next week."

    They have us all covered.
