"Drinking effects" similar to how it is in Deep Rock Galactic.

  • For example, in Deep Rock Galactic, you can buy a beer that completely freezes you, instantly blacks you out, or gives bonuses.

It's really not outside the realm of possibilities for Sea of Thieves to be able to buy a round of hilarious drinks for your crew at the cost of doubloons.

Except Rare's stance is to not celebrate alcoholism by inferring bonuses.

  • Yeah, I proposed an idea like this a while back, I'd love to see it happen cause I feel like it'd add another way to enjoy grog at different strengths or effects and make it fun, cause I know for sure I've stopped drinking grog "just because" after 2019 cause as much as I'd like to drink, I don't want to have to wait for the effects to wear off before having to literally anything. Also drinking grog at an outpost to celebrate something gets old after a minute or so because nothing else happens, no blackouts, no special effects, just motion sickness and inability to press W and go forwards. I don't see why they shouldn't add it, cause they're already promoting alcohol with grog's existence (like alcoholism is better than gambling too (looking at you, anti-card game people)), so why not make it actually interesting while we're at it.

    1. Dont compare what other games do. SOT is it own game
    2. Hmmm making people drink for the sake of 'blacking out' would throw a bad taste into the parents who start talking about "being black out drunk" while playing a game.
    3. Bonuses? Nah.
  • @burnbacon Who's "comparing" Sea of Thieves to anything? Who said better? Who said worse? I'm mentioning Deep Rock Galactic because Deep Rock galactic has a mechanic most similar to what I'm talking about. I listed off how it works there as a reference point for my suggestion, not a "this is better than sea of thieves"

  • You know what since we're taking ideas from other games as an idea for a completely different and unique game, here's a good one:

In Blazing Sails, you have access to a bottle of... some kind of piratical alcohol, and it heals up to 50% of your HP.

What if for a Sea of Thieves' twist, you can drink a grog and while drunk it can randomly refill your HP up to 50% if fully drunk, but this comes at the cost of drunkenness, which can't be fought off as easily even with water splashes.

In PvP it could be a hilariously useless way to get more HP back if you're trying to sink a crew on bananas and fishing bait but need that extra HP to survive any attacks coming your way.

Would be funny getting in a spawncamp where a TSD is trying to double gun me while wobbling around drunk on their heels just because they ran out of bananas to eat on my boat lol
