I personally think the Hunters need an update, the last thing relating to them other than the quest board was the event. I believe it's far too grindy and tedious to get to rank 50 with them without needing to chase the storm with a boat full of leeches and the posts themselves could use something like a small beach to dig up bait to catch region specific/storm fish as well as a stove or camp fire to do some cooking without needing a ship in case you don't feel like moving much or want something other than splashtails if a seapost is in a certain region.
Hunters Call Update?
These ideas leave Rare in 2 tough spots:
1st: Implement change to Hunter's Call to make it easier to level up and complete without any regard or care for the players who already completed it in its current state.
2nd: Add a time limited item for players who completed the grind before the change which leaves a lot of others in the community upset.
So that leaves with the best and easiest option... don't touch it. It is supposed to be a grind, it was added in the game as a grind to do just while sailing passively or for committed players to actively pursue. It is not blocking any gameplay behind leveling it and has minimal cosmetics associated with leveling it.
Agreed, needs to be less grindy. It also needs more stuff to do in terms of "hunting" wether that is a new tool to hunt animals, a new voyage, or a new boss battle. Perhaps the type of bait used should allow 100% chance to catch the fish for that type of bait, removing the rng component completely. Another alternative is that as one ranks up in rep, the chance of catching for that type of bait increases along side resistance to fish escaping due to rod snaps/ breaks (Less noticeable on small fish, but more noticeable on trophy and unique types of fish)

I mean they did this with the other main three factions. Merchants, Gold Hoarders and Order of Souls all got higher grade voyages that offer a much greater payout than the regular voyages. Is that unfair to players who had already maxed out those factions?
@mferr11 the new voyages added were not as impactful as adding actual voyages to hunters calling the faction with nothing.
This change would be closer in equivalency to when they added emissary to the 3 main factions which there were rewards for being the Golden Legendary Set. So there is in fact a precedent for this.
Personally, what makes the Hunter's Call "too grindy" is the sheer level of RNG involved, far more than any of the other trading companies. It's ridiculous trying to get some of the achievements when actually fishing up what you need to complete them is slim to none. What I would appreciate most is a better way to mitigate the effects of RNG when fishing, be that more bait types or "voyage" analogues where the Hunters direct players to specific map coordinates where they heard lots of rare fish are biting.
I don't mind the rep grind too much, as fishing sometimes makes for a low stress way to play the game at times. That being said, I am still only level 38 and it does take a lot of time. While I don't mind the time investment, it would be nice to see a voyage or additional way to get rep to mix it up a little. I find myself hording all my gems so I can turn them in at a sea post. I do know that when I do make it to 50, I will wish that it was 75. I enjoy having a goal in a game to work towards.
@blam320 i agree, im level 50 with HC but i would love to see some of the RNG taken out, to get all commendations solo you have to put 1000+ hours into just fishing. there is nothing else that even comes close to this grind. or just mixing the grind up would be nice, for example have a bait that gives increased chance to get rare fish but have that bait behind a quest
In my opinion, an interesting idea to make lure acquisition easier would be to be able to buy a crate (barrel) containing, for example, 150 worms, 50 of each type. This would be an easier way to get baits faster, and would allow you to fish on seaoutposts without having to change locations to get them. The purchase of these chests would be unlimited, but would cost slightly more than the resource chests in the merchants. It would also make it slightly easier to gain reputation in HC.
@nitroxien
OR...
Increase the level cap. People already at 50 have a head start... and add unlimited cosmetics for the new levels, of course.
Add a quest that scales with levels, like other trading company quests, providing another boost to level 50 players that can still be attained by lower levels at later time.Ideas to make HC fun again:
-
Emissary: level by cathing fish or cooking meat. When you hit Grade V, chances of catching rare fish go up really high.
-
Bait Crates: literally what it says. 10k for 50 worms or whatever.
-
Voyages: a thing that sends you to a guaranteed mini-meg or mini-kraken spawn. These don't count to commendations, we could just call them baby megs, and will drop no loot except meat.
Also landing fish takes way too long. People will disagree but doing the maths, assuming it takes 2 mins to land a fish, there are 10 types, each needs 210 to get them all, you will be fishing for:
4200 minutes...70 hours of fishing.
Or 12.5 if you farm with a galleon. And that isn't even taking RNG into account.
Takes way to long.
In the meantime, you can just run ARofTH and collect the merm gems.
