Cannon flairs and weapon line of sights are so obstructive!

  • Truely if there was anywhere I would ask the Devs to show more restraint is in cannon flairs and weapon bulk.

Cannon flairs are fun and look amazing!) but they take up so much of the screen you're pretty much blind after every shot.

Look at that! You cant see anything and that effect lasts almost 2.5 seconds.

  • peacocking and performance rarely go together

imo if people want to have a good time with friends and strut around the sea go with the frizzles and the frazzles

if people wanna perform go with what interferes the least and allows consistency the most.

  • @olgilviemaurice Your temporary blindness is typically counteracted by the distance of your shot - the further away you are from your target, the easier it is to see where the cannonball is going because the cannon flare would already have dissipated. If you happen to be close, then it probably doesn't matter as much, because it's really about where you're aiming at before the shot.

  • Fashion is pain dahling.

  • Be grateful the sound isn't what it's supposed to sound like. That'll mess with your aim lol

  • It takes that long to load the next shot anyways...

  • So don’t use it?

Hmm idk what your looking at but I see enough.

    Maybe idk…turn the flare off?

That's not good cosmetic design period. If it's not good for the situation it's initially built for, then it's purely useless and a waste of money and gold. I refuse to believe Rare, the Devs, or any of the insiders that actually tested this didn't believe how obstructive this would be in an intense combat scenario.

  • @olgilviemaurice use the ProPlayer's kit: Cutthroat Cannon Flare (buy in the emporium), Magpie's cannons/Standard Cannons/Eternal Freedom Cannons and Dark Adventurers Sails.

  • @nex-stargaze It’s a cosmetic…
It’s not supposed to be seen through. That’s literally why it is the way it is. Peacocking isn’t going to do you any good.

Then tell me, no really tell me -

    Why make it

Why introduce a cosmetic type that in some technicalities, is pay to lose. I'll give the Ashen Dragon and Ghost cosmetics this: they might look glowy from the first person perspective, but they aren't unusable in combat. In my honest opinion you shouldn't be making a genuine hazard to the base gameplay experience just because someone is gonna think it looks cool, you're going to set people up for failure, and worse-off, wasting their gold and ancient coins on cosmetics they will refuse to use in a moment of combat. That's why I don't want to believe no one thought this through, a cosmetic shouldn't be pointless because it's more hazardous than ineffective.

It's a cosmetic, I don't know what else to say! xD

  • @burnbacon You miss the point. You should still be able have a cannon flair and not have it obstruct your view. It just needs to be designed with that in mind. all this "dhuuu just dont use it" is just unhelpful and lazy.

Why? Because some will like it...I use some that are not so good at night...but I don’t care, I can deal with this...aaaannndd, they look good...

But that's the only thing to say...don’t use it, if you don’t like it...they exist
Many will like it, many won't...some are pretty bright at night, makes it a bit hard to aim sometimes...if I choose anyway to use them, it's my choice/problem

  • The flares should be no more or less obstructive than the normal smoke explosion from the cannon. Period. For being mostly a paid cosmetic, it sure is poor design to have them go mostly unused (and unpurchased) because they put you at a slight disadvantage.

I reckon most people use them once and then they realize it makes aiming your cannon more challenging and are never willing to spend money on them.

I know that when I'm buying a ship set in the emporium, I am definitely not wasting ancient coins on flares.

It's been an ongoing complaint since flares were introduced and I'm surprised they haven't addressed it yet considering the potential forfeit of revenue and wasted dev time.

  • Most of the cosmetics that offer an advantage or disadvantage offer only slight advantages or disadvantages, with the latter usually overcome with a bit of practice/teamwork/communication. I think Rare had, not a strict balance in mind, but a range of balance in mind - this way they could offer more variety of choice while making the design process for themselves a bit easier in the long run. Some pirates clearly think the trade-off is worth it and some don't. You have clearly made your choice; don't force it upon others.
