Using a crosshair overlay on screen"?

  • Hello there fellow pirates!
So I was thinking of maybe using a crosshair overlay on my screen, so that I know where I am aiming, before having to scope i nwith my Eye of Reach.
But I do not know if this is allowed in Sea of Thieves, so there be my reason for the making of this discussion!
I WILL NOT be using a crosshair overlay till further notice, I will be awaiting this discussion, because I don't wanna any trouble!
If it is allowed, what is a good and save crosshair overlay to use?

  • I don't know if it's allowed, but it sure is unfair.

  • If you just made one over your screen itself nobody would ever know lol.

A software overlay? Probably counts as hacks

  • @tarfful6878 Most gaming monitors have built in crosshairs and there's also a lot of available apps that do the same. Tbh they should just put a crosshair option in the game no way to stop people from using one.

  • As others have said, there are certainly ways to do so that can't be detected, but I would say it is strongly against the spirit or intent of the game to do so. It really isn't that hard to aim once you get the hang of it.

  • Adding something to a game to help "you" improve aim.

Sounds like modding which is against the rules.

I don't believe they are talking about modding the actual game but there are crosshair widgets for Game Bar on PC... I'm not sure where Rare stands on using those though, so I personally wouldn't risk it.

  • This is always a contentious one, using anything like this especially on a software level is technically a bannable offense… HOWEVER there is completely undetectable ways to do so:

    • monitors with the functionality built in
    • a piece of tape with a dot on your screen

Does this make it okay ? Maybe, maybe not.

However it is not really all that gamechanging, the Eye of reach is completely useless without scoping in, the bb is only really good at close range and the for the pistol its just checking where the center of your screen is

  • @callmebackdraft thnxs for the feedback everyone, i will not risk it, but i might try the tape one :)

  • Avery makes see through color dot stickers that can be placed directly on your display's screen.

  • @tarfful6878 some monitors have a red dot

  • It's an advantage that isn't based on skill and performance of an individual which goes against the spirit of the environment and the intent of the developers. It's also a unsportsmanlike decision that affects and is not on equal footing with your opponent.

Consequences or not, is it really worth it? Would you support people trying to justify advantages against you or yours that are not within the intent of the environment?

I'd ponder that more than if you will get caught, if I were in your shoes.

Imo it's in there with the water dancing. It contributes to weakening the combat foundation that was built for creating equal footing in combat.

  • @wolfmanbush Yea you're right, i agree

  • Could you do it? sure, cant detect tape. But it makes you that guy. Is it even a clutch quickscope if you could aim precisely the whole time? Just seems pretty lame.

  • I will save you the trouble.

    1. It's cheating and unfair

    2. It's a violation of the ToS to use 3rd party programs, includes ones on your hardware. Read the ToS for Rare, Xbox, and Microsoft.

    3. A physical cross hair is just silly.

Do you really need a cross hair that badly you'd put tape or some dot on your monitor or screen and ruin it?

So you call that water dancing and not dpi switching?

  • I cant say that did not use some tape on my monitor for my LASO tries in Halo MCC.
Unsuccessful runs i might add. (im terrible at FPS).

Using a monitor crosshair is unfair. In my opinion.
Using some tape on the monitor, is unfair, and silly looking!
