One of the aspects of Sea of Thieves that is quickly apparent to anyone who boots up the game for the first time is the customisation options, for both a player's pirate and their ship. It's the main thing you can spend gold and doubloons on, and is something I spend a lot of time trying to get just right for myself, but I do kind of want more options.
Pirate Cosmetics
I'll start with the pirate cosmetic suggestions. I would love to see more colour options, specifically cosmetics that work well within their own set, but also work well with pieces outside of their set. It feels like there's a limit to the coloured themes you can have, especially if you're like me and like to show off your tattoos.
For instance, right now I've got this black and gold set, as I wanted to find something that worked well with my Golden Sailor's Blunderbuss because I just like the look of it. The set works well, but I very much had a hard time finding a good looking hat that fit the colour scheme, and finding a jacket I liked, as obstructing my tattoos too much is something I don't like doing.
It would be nice to see more basic cosmetics like these that go well with one another. They aren't over the top, nor are they too bland. They have just that right amount of appeal, at least in my opinion.
Ship Cosmetics
Moving on to the ship cosmetic suggestion, this one is a lot more straight-forward than "I would like to see more of these vague and subjective things." I would like to see different sail cuts. Right now, the shape of a sail depends heavily on the sail itself, and as many people know, the Dark Adventurer Sail's large cutout gives it a distinct advantage over other sail types when it comes to visibility from the wheel - especially on the Brigantine and Galleon.
Of course, I own these sails for that very reason, but I have a hard time syncing it with any other ship cosmetics that I genuinely enjoy. I love the black and silver going on with them, but they force you to work a ship around them, and there just aren't that many options.
On the other hand, my favourite sails in the game are ones I bought so long ago, the Golden Skull Sails. I have a ship set I designed to use just with them, but I only ever really use them on a Sloop due to the fact they are terrible for visibility.
So my suggestion is that we add different cuts to sails, allowing players to use whatever sail design, and therefore ship set, they want, without having to sacrifice the appearance of their ship or visibility.
The only problem is, I can see a decent amount of people might be mad if the main draw of the Dark Adventurer Sails - their visibility - was no longer unique to them, given their steep price of 8 million gold. Personally, as someone who spent the 8 million gold to get these, I would say it's worth it, as it gives more freedom to players to come up with cohesive ship sets that are unique to them and their crew, but that is just my opinion.
