I just played for the first time on Xbox, and I can't find any way to exit the game without restarting my console... How are you supposed to exit the game, and why isn't there any obvious way to do it?

You can also hit the button next to the guide button. The one that has two overlapping rectangles on it.
This should give you the options and settings menus as well as a 'Leave Game' option. That takes you back to the title screen and as said above, just exit through the dashboard after that.
It's a brand new Xbox and I've never had an Xbox before... I got back to the title screen from gameplay fine but I can't find any way to exit the game from there. How do you exit through the dashboard? How do you bring the dashboard up? I hit every single button on the controller, and the only way I could find to get out of the game was by holding down the Xbox button and then restarting the console.

Step 1To exit a game, while we are in it, we will press the central Xbox button on our controller.
Step 2
We will see that the drop-down menu appears on the left. Click on "Start" here and you will go to the main screen.
Step 3
If what you want is to close the game completely. From the previous menu, go to the game you want to close.
Step 4
Now press the "Options" button on your Xbox controller.
Step 5
A drop-down menu for the game will appear. Click on "Exit". The game will close completely.

Thanks, I see why I wasn't able to exit normally - every time I was hitting the Xbox button I was getting the menu popup that asks you if you want to turn off the console, not the side home menu. No idea why that was coming up when I tapped the button as well as when I held it down, maybe it was getting stuck.

Don't hold the XBox button, just push it once...with this you got all your latest games/apps played, going back to the dashboard, friends...actually almost everything
Leaving the game "regularly", push the button on the left from the XBox-button, it says "leave game" somewhere there, this is for getting into the main menu of the gamePush the little button in the middle left, next to the left thumb stick on the Xbox controller. A menu will come up with the Exit option.
It will take you to the title screen.
Then push the middle Xbox button and scroll down to the SOT game. push the little button on the right with the lines on it, next to the right thumb stick. Choose "Quit".
