WHY ARE EXPLOSIVE BARRELS FLOATING IN THE WATER!!! MAKES NO SENSE

  • I wont lie I don't see the reason why explosive barrels are in the water at all it makes no sense why they are there and of all things it just soo rng it makes no sense its not like its always near islands it can literally be in the middle of the damn ocean. My home boy and I getting back into SOT for the first time in a while and you know we out here doing gang stuff pvping and doing Athenas and we see a Galleon we try to make our getaway and out maneuver with a sloop and we are cause I'm an amazing captain and all but again when you try to out run a Galleon which is faster than a Sloop you need to just make turns and look how they are turning so you are always looking behind you. So as my boy and I are juking and breaking ankles out on the sea. MY SHIP RANDOMLY FLIES UP AND I LOOSE MY MAST and I'm out here really thinking did I actually hit an island or anything but I know I didn't. NOOOOOO I SEE RANDOM BARRELS IN THE WATER AND REALIZE I HIT A FLIPPING EXPLOSIVE BARREL. eventually they got us cause ya know MY MAST IS DOWN. After we respawn we hunt them down and get them back sinking them easy peasy because again we some real gangsters out here on the sea. but TLDR: GET RID OF RANDOM EXPLOSIVE BARRELS IN THE WATER ITS NOT NEEDED!!!! thank you for coming to my ted talk.

  • Random Gunpowder barrels in the water are just another risk you always gotta keep an eye out for matey. Flotsams can be identified by the glinting of what's inside or the gulls flying up above it. If you were focused on manoeuvring and turning to avoid the Galleon, your eye's would have been set on the sea's in front of you, so keep a weathered eye in future. Have one crewmember watching behind, have one watching ahead, or take turns doing so. Hitting a gunpowder barrel in a flotsam also is rarely a problem if you're stood at the back of the ship, you just need to be efficient!
Little pro tip for situations like this; dummy your sails (basically put them back to the default position) and sail against the wind, you'll have slightly more speed than the Galleon, meaning as you manoeuvre and make your getaway, you'll also slowly but surely put distance between you and them as well.

  • Sounds like
    a) You're crying... sort of (God, I hate these posts and saying these things, but it's the notion I got)
    b) You actually aren't a 'gangster' captain and the best on the seas because you didn't angle dummy wind like a good captain would
    c) You got tunnel vision. You both didn't need to be looking at the gally yet you were
It's a pirate fantsay game yet you complain about sense... nice!

  • @theawakenknight for the same reason supplies and loot are floating in the water, its stuff lost at sea.

Same way we irl have a giant floating garbage patch in the oceans.

In fact, if you would have kept a keen eye and see the barrel floating before hand you could have avoided it, have you or your crewmember jump off and grab it and hand deliver it to the galleon

When life gives you lemons make lemonade

  • Buts it's funny when the other ship wasn't paying attention and runs over the powder keg... :)

  • @theawakenknight WHAT a GOOD post THANK you FOR your CONSIDERATION. if YOU think THAT is BROKEN think ABOUT the BARREL tuck

  • Just keep an eye out for the birds. When you navigate (or drive in real life) you tend to look ahead to avoid dangers.

  • This is the single greatest post I have ever read on these forums.

ROFL I was thinking the exact same thing - that this is the same guy!

  • @theawakenknight

    • "cause I'm an amazing captain and all"
    • can't spot a floating gunpowder barrel and want them removed from the sea
  • @theawakenknight really if your being gangster, you should get a better lookout.

  • Galleons are only faster than Sloops with the wind

  • Floating exploding barrels were specifically added to the game to annoy you.

Now you know to be more careful out on the seas, a lesson was learned, progress was made.

Sounds like a fun session all in all.

  • They should add stronghold gpbs...

    YES! Please!

  • TLDR: GET RID OF RANDOM EXPLOSIVE BARRELS IN THE WATER ITS NOT NEEDED!!!!

It is. If someone chases, people tend to barrel through those so…blend in with a keg of my own.

But seriously. Why are you sailing into them? Didn’t see? Well like a ship, keep eye out they do have seagulls.

This very minor issue. Very minor.

  • @theawakenknight I am in full agreement. We should add stronghold kegs in addition to the other ones :) Right now they ain't quite deadly enough.

  • It makes sailing a bit more interesting; having to actually pay attention instead of putting the wheel on mid point and watch Youtube on your phone until you arrive at your next island

Also barrels are suppost to be lost supplies of another ship; so some ships hold kegs with them
