The future of the Devil’s Roar

  • The devils roar hasn’t gotten a new update in a while. No sunken kingdom in the region and no new voyages. I believe that rare needs to do something to keep up this region. Like a new specific voyage or making new ashen variants of treasures.

  • @captain-wolf348 im in. Sirens feel off they would cook like shrimps. Abandoned shrines with lava monsters.

  • @captain-wolf348 "less than 2% of player time is spent in are--err the devils roar therefore we are removing it to make more room for the main 3 regions. Honestly thought the shroud should recover the Roar its an awful place that no one goes to."

  • @lackbarwastaken the roar is great. money is good and there is no storm

  • I don't much have a problem with a wasteland being a wasteland

there are people that dig it and a lot of people that don't

Imo for adventure there are more interesting things that happen how people naturally adapt as it is rather than to try to push people to the area to manufacture activity.

People can use it to make a bunch of gold and potentially get left alone

people can sneak up on it for some potential good steals from time to time

Personally I don't have a problem with that. I don't think an area needs to be popular as long as it offers alternatives and a unique experience for adventure and I think it does that.

  • I hardly ever go to the roar since the volcanoes erupt based on proximity. Doesn't feel natural.

  • The Roar is my favorite area in the seas, it has such a unique harsh character that sets it apart from the other regions. I love playing there, some of the best, most memorable encounters I've had with other players I've had in the Roar.

I would like more updates to that area but I think Rare has a lot of things on their plate right now and I think it will be some time before their attention turns again to the Roar and it's potential.

That being said, I have come to hate the geysers, the darn things are so loud they give you a headache. I believe if the geysers were toned down and the noise impact was lessened somewhat, more people would enjoy playing in the Roar. The volcanoes are manageable but the geysers are relentless to the point of just being actually painful and annoying. So I'd like to see an update which would make geysers more bearable.

  • @rikjaxx Correction, since I just went to the Roar. The volcanoes erupt too often for too long, and there are WAY too many geysers. I just don't like how everything is proximity based versus being a random natural feeling event.

as far as I know it's based on timing rng

good rng and a person won't run into many during a session and unfortunate rng can cause a couple eruptions within a relatively short amount of time.

  • I think in addition of Ghost Ships and current world events spawning in the Roar, there should be a Devil’s Roar only event that spawns there and gives really good money.

Even if they make FoF spawn in the Roar I feel like people will still avoid it.

  • @wolfmanbush Volcanoes seem to be timed if you aren't near them, but I swear I've informally tested that and they seem to erupt more often if I'm close. And I'll clarify even more.... its the aim bots of those volcanoes that annoys me the most. So I feel like by the time you avoid the volcanoes and the geysers, you've lost your loot timing advantage. Loot brings in more cash but takes longer to gather.... especially for a solo slooper. I've tried many times. I want to like the zone more, but in the end it's my last choice.

  • Personally, I don't like the Devil's Roar. But I also agree with you, it definitely needs some love. Let's make it happen!

  • @mintharp184509 I think I’m addition to that specific ashen variants of world event loot should spawn

  • We might end up going there for the new stories, who knows?

    You pesky Insiders do

Yes. Too long and too often is the perfect description for the volcanoes. Geysers should be random, not proximity, though you can use this to fight off skellies. But the volcanoes last too long and happen too often. One or both of those aspects should be dialed back.

  • @scurvywoof true on that

  • Get rid of the traditional Skeleton Fort event at Molten Sands and replace it with a unique player activated event that rewards an Ashen Chest of Legends. Boom (pun intended), you've got a whole new and exciting reason for people to go to the Roar and have interactions with other players.

Other than that, the Roar serves its purpose well; a challenging PvE experience that has loot to match its level of annoyance while often times leaves you sailing in incognito mode.

Look out! One day, it might just disappear entirely! Like the Arena, or Golden Sands Outpost before it... Precedence has been set.

I'd honestly be fine with this...

The devil's roar is hella ugly.

I suppose i like having an area very few people go to, but i wouldn't hate it if i could never go there again.

  • @sweetsandman that’s not a bad idea

  • I'm actually fine with the roar, enough eruptions and vulcano activity so it's still dangerous and not too much, so you can still do your stuff...
Don't know what problems you guys have with it...

  • @schwammlgott I totally agree with you but it definitely deserves some updates

  • Any world event and voyage that doesn’t already rotate through that region should do so. All we have there of new quests is vaults which are so good in the roar. There should be an ashen winds and fof there. We also have ghost ships that should be there along with treasuries.

  • I’d love to see more stuff out there. My only small concern is that if it draws in many of the typical players who are used to easier content, they will campaign much more loudly to have the place nerfed even further. As it is, most people who can’t handle the added challenge just don’t go. Even in this thread people are complaining about the very things that make the area more fun for me. I love the geysers (especially when hunting skulls), and I appreciate the added obstacles created by volcanoes. Plus you get a boost in treasure value for most of the stuff you find out there. But spicy fire mermaids, and some kind of lava based underwater shrine would be fun.

  • @ghostpaw thank you for your comment

  • @ghostpaw I agree with you. I said I hated the geysers but I think I poorly worded that, and I apologize, I don't hate the actual geysers just the noise level. If the noise was lowered by 10% I don't think it would affect game play in any way. A lot of work went into creating the Roar and if a small change of the decibel level would draw more players into the Roar I can't see that as a bad thing. If it's constantly underpopulated Rare may decide it was a mistake and make drastic changes. As I said it is my favorite region and like you, I appreciate the added obstacles and will continue to go there for the love of the Roar.
I very much like your idea of spicy fire mermaids, and some kind of lava based underwater shrine.

I think we are on the same page here. I can’t see anything wrong with decreasing the sound of geysers. I’ve never noticed them much, but then again, I lost some of my hearing in my early to mid 20’s. They waned me to wear hearing protection but I was still in that “personal fable” phase.

  • My biggest gripe with the Roar is how long it takes to get there. You've got a 1/6 (1/5 while the Adventure is active) of getting a good spawn to travel there.

I'm also not a fan of how volcanos work. As they are currently, volcanos force you to put your adventure on pause, head back to ship and wait it out. I'd much rather them be something you can play around rather than waiting out. I don't have a perfect solution for this, but something to think about.

And I do think the Roar could use some general updating. A shrine or treasury would've been nice, getting proper DR varients of the Merchant and OoS Level 25 voyages would also be neat.

  • @mferr11 I agree with the latest voyages being available. They were able to add a vault to the area, Lost Shipments and Ghost fleets should be easy by comparison (plenty of open ocean to be spawn points).

  • make ships spawn there, problem solved.

  • @pickelking101 they will never do that, they want the roar being something you explore
