New throwable - Iron Grenade (Grenadoe)

  • I'm sure you can all picture what I mean here. A mini-cannon ball looking thing with a fuse, filled with gunpowder and goes boom - I'm sure this has probably been suggested many times.

This could be a rare-ish throwable, to be decided if it's fireable from cannons, and made to either explode on impact or with a slight delay due to the fuse, with way less power than a normal powder keg (a quarter to a half) and sets fires on impact. I am guessing physics would be limited and the grenade would stop where it lands due to the weight - obviously all the current discussion on physics/hitreg is a hot topic, but these are a well known gunpowder weapon used during the age of piracy - spawning such terms as Grenadier which is still used in the armed forces today - most famously the UK Grenadier guards you see in redcoats and bearskin helmets.

Hmmmm, I'm not sure. I mean we have blunderbombs already. And this just looks too similar to them to be added.

  • @greengrimz neither of which have a delay, I see this being used for some new tactical plays in both PvP and PvE and behaving differently to BB/FBs and kegs, for example primary fire being a throw and secondary being a drop at feet - tools not rules right?

  • @longjohnnova This is a good idea, but the game has little to do with the history of piracy, or rather nothing at all

  • @barmaley7580 Yeah, other than Flintlocks, Sword fighting, Galleons, Brigantines, Sloops, Cannons, Shipwrecks, Trading companies, Treasure hunting, Pirate Myths, Gunpowder, Pop culture references to Pirate fiction, a literal tie in with the most famous Pirate franchise in history, references to historical real pirates, or the game world being set in the British V-Islands, the game has little to do or rather nothing at all to do with the history of Piracy..... 😁

I mean, a lot of those things are pretty shallow, and don't do it justice. The guns don't act or feel like flintlocks, the cannon balls function like explosive shells, the three ships are horribly designed, and it overall feels less like a pirate game.

Some might just write these off as nitpicks, but they start to add up real fast.

I think the only thing they really nailed in this game is the fantasy side of it, the weird sea monsters and skeletons are all really cool. But the last few updates have me pretty confused.

I know it's not supposed to be hyper realistic, and I don't want it to be. But in most cases adding realistic elements can not only make the gameplay more engaging, but also make it more immersive.

Idk, I just feel like a lot of cool ideas are shot down because of "balance" and "fantasy". These things should definitely be considered, but I think gameplay and atmosphere should be the top priority imo. It's more of a fantasy with a bit of pirates.

As for new ships and weapons...

Tools not rules, but how many tools do we really have?

  • i just dont see what this adds to the game, so its a throwable grenade that deals damage and spreads fire. so basically its a firebomb and blunderbomb combined ? makes the other 2 obsolete does it not ?

  • @greatfailure82 I don't see it replacing Blunders/Firebombs, I look at it more as a throwable/droppable mini-keg with a fuse, perhaps with a bright flash/disorienting effect.

Imagine you're a solo slooper being chased, you jump in the water about to board the pursuing Galleon whilst ladders are fully guarded, you throw one of these aboard and time it perfectly so you grab the ladder 3 seconds later as it goes off... It explodes and drops the middle mast as just as you climb the ladder, allowing you to then drop their anchor and make an escape.

  • @jum9260 "I know it's not supposed to be hyper realistic, and I don't want it to be. But in most cases adding realistic elements can not only make the gameplay more engaging, but also make it more immersive."

Absolutely, I'd much rather have more realistic weaponry to play with rather than a wizards staff that shoots clouds.

  • I wouldn't want them to cause damage to the ship but I could see a fuse bomb working. Smaller knockback than the blunderbomb but does the same damage within its aoe and adds fire to surroundings. Can't be loaded into cannons though. The fuse gives opponents chance to run from it. so blunderbomb has a useage still and firebombs will still be useful for instant fire on a ship or when fired from cannons.

  • I like the idea of a fused throwable mini-keg as long as the power isn't too crazy and they are only acquired as a reward for some sort of activity on the server like how Wraithballs are.

I'm thinking 2 holes worth of ship damage max or whatever is not enough to drop a mast. Damage to players would need to be reduced as your distance from it increases. I'm also thinking you should only be able to hold one in your inventory at a time so as to not make them OP

I thought SoT was set around Indonesia, or am I mistaken?

  • @scurvywoof I just assumed it was the Caribbean with a lot of the characters having some Spanish names.

  • @a10dr750 @sweetsandman Yes, exactly, not too powerful and fading AoE - not fireable from cannons, thrown or dropped and stops at it's landing spot, maybe even make the throw distance shorter but the big advantage is the timer. Perhaps just a rare barrel find, and max of 1-2 in inventory. Explosion/fire damage with maybe a 'flashbang' effect on player for a few moments (sound muffling, vision blur, loss of balance).

  • the ability to damage a ship is a huge no. you basically kill ship to ship combat with this

  • @longjohnnova @themadlad94 Ah, my brain was playing tricks on me!

  • I think this game has enough weapons of choice for the type of game it is.

  • @tenkaar Had the developers said that on release we wouldn't have blunders, firebombs, chainshots or curseballs.

  • @longjohnnova As I said right now this game has more than enough weapons in my view.
