Whats the point of playing this game?

  • Doing a quest, after leaving the island, we get craken, skeleton skip, and a megalodon at the same time, and a galeon saw us and started to fire at us, what is the point of playing this game when you try to do someting the pve obliterates you. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE 3 PVE THIGNS. if this is not motive to quit this game, i dont know,

  • @daviddrodrigues Ahoy matey!

So sorry to hear you had a bit of a rough time out on the seas... The RNG can throw this at you sometimes, for me it's all about the stories to tell later on...

You remember that time we left Plunder Outpost and got sank by the Kraken, meg and skelly ship on us...

Like I said it's all RNG so next time will be very different! Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get back in the battle!

  • @daviddrodrigues sorry you got hit by the big 3 matey, it's very rare but it does happen!

My betting is, if you stick with the game, your crew will look back on that experience and laugh at how ridiculous it was.

And that, for me at least, is the point of playing this game.

  • @daviddrodrigues

Fun times. I rarely see krakens or Megs anymore. I miss the days when leaving an Outpost was almost guaranteed a kraken if there were no event clouds.

Make a clip and laugh about it.

  • @daviddrodrigues

Welp, you got rared, spectacularly so.

Honestly though, the game doesn't really have a point currently, which is one of my main issues with it.

Like you can farm gold or cosmetics but once you get your cosmetics looking how you want them too there's not really a point.

You can hunt for commendations but that's really only an option if you're a completionist or if again, you want a cosmetic reward.

You can complete tall tales, but once you do there's really no point in going back outside of the occasional daily deed / seasonal trial.

Speaking of, you can complete season passes, though once you do you're gonna be right back where you started, with nothing to work towards.

The communities answer to the above is that you play for fun and that's great and all, but i can do that in other games and still have something to work towards.

Quite simply, SoT lacks endgame goals and it needs some, badly.

Currently, i complete a season and then quit until the next season releases. I'm goal oriented and playing just for fun doesn't work for me.

  • I don’t understand why there are only three types of ships in the game since the release? I often play alone and I'm tired of playing on a sloop, which, by the way, cannot be changed in any way.

  • At first everything is overwhelming. The pve and the pvp.

Lots of intensity and a lot of losses. Eventually a pirate adapts because at their core they are a survivalist as well as an adventurer.

If you stick with it you will find your own personal answer to the question of "what is the point of playing this game"

The pve isn't always overwhelming, the randomness prevents the same scenarios and results, it becomes manageable and then the point of the experience becomes more clear.

Stick with it and you'll find a reason. The only thing I can tell you with certainty is that with dedication and effort you will struggle less when engaging in and with the environment.

  • @daviddrodrigues If you're having problems with PvE, wait until a skinless galleon and a crew of four newly created characters appears just to spawncamp whoever's in front.

Leaving the joke aside, the fun of this game is precisely in fighting against everything it has to offer. A pirate's life is full of danger and adventure, not just digging chests and drinking grog.

  • @daviddrodrigues not gonna lie. I would love for that to happen to me.

  • Whats the point of playing this game?

If you as a gamer have to ask yourself or anyone this very question. Maybe you shouldn’t ask it and simply leave it.

lol, guess i should expand on what i mean.

Of course i play games to have fun, but for a game to keep my interest long term it needs goals for me to strive for.

If it doesn't then i'll eventually get bored with just wandering aimlessly.

Like rn, i'm waiting for the adventure to come out because i completed the season pass, then i'll quit again until season 6 releases.

I don't have any goals to strive for currently, i got the gold curse, i got PL, i have the pieces of the DA set i want and my ships look is set in stone (Until a new wheel or figurehead i like better releases.)

    Also, apparently V A C A is a curse word and i can't @ you because of that.

  • @cpt-redmane

Don't mind me. Having grown up in the age of Atari, sometimes I just have to be a bit of a grandpa about these new-fangled vidja games. With their fancy-shmancy DLCs, updates, endgames and whatnot.

Meanwhile, I'm in elementary school playing Food Fight for the 50th time, seeing how far I can get without using the rapid-fire tomatoes. =P

  • @daviddrodrigues

Hello Sir , i fear you got beaten by the random "roll of the AI dices" , sometimes this can happen and yes , if you lode it's painful...But tell me : Would you have written the same story if you had won this uneven fight? i think if you did had written it you would have written ,with full and rightful pride , about your victory against all odds...

Today you 've lost and we can taste your disspointment through your lines of text but who knows that next time the dices are against you , you will already have the previous experience , and maybe turn a certain defeat into an unexpected ,but also , very sweet victory...i hope you may make a new story about that victory and be damn sure that i will cheer for your victory!

You see , we can and do lose in every other game as well but the fact that it hurts more in this game means that you have spend much time and played with a lot of passion and joy . And the dissapointment of not being rewarded does hurt. But don't let that hurt keep you away from this game, try again tomorrow when the majority of the dissapointment is already sinking away ...Know that you have experience from this and will try a different way in order to prevent a new defeat...

Happy Sails and much future Treasure to you, Sir.

  • I can’t really figure it out either tbh I usually play for a week or two get annoyed or bored and stop for 7-8 months

  • The point is to have adventures and make stories. I used to get attached to the ship and to the loot, but if you can learn to appreciate the fun that is had between getting sunk or stolen from you'll enjoy the game 1000x more, because that is where the fun exists, in the moments in-between.

  • that sounds like content to me

  • Oof.

Sounds like the Whale Lord wasn't looking upon you with favor that day lol..

In all seriousness, it happens more than you realize, and many refer to it as being "Rare'd" lol.

???? This game is chock full of goals to complete - it is just open-ended so YOU decide which ones to pursue. Between the achievements, commendations and tall tales there is absolutely no shortage of goals to conquer. It is just that YOU get to decide the priority instead of it being spoon-fed to you.

Sounds more like a YOU problem than a game problem.

  • @dlchief58

...yep, this is about what i expected when i posted my above posts. Somehow it always winds up being a me problem if i ever express ANY issue with this game.

Here's an idea, perhaps the game is NOT perfect, perhaps it COULD be improved by adding longer term goals for people who've already got the cosmetics/titles they want.

Not everyone cares about completing every single achievement just to say you did. I like to be rewarded for my time and rn, i've done everything i set out to do and outside of the seasonal content there's no new goals for me to strive for.

  • The wild PvE attacks are definitely something I look back on and laugh. I've been playing since launch, fell off for a while, and I was just getting back into it with these updates. But now I'm back to agreeing with OP, for me there's no point putting an evening into this game anymore. I was just on an Athena, and got two islands with skeleton captain maps glitch, where I get music and no skellies (I'm sure long time players know that one). I sail back and forth killing time, never getting them to spawn, until a reaper swoops in. End of my 3+ hours of solo sloop work. And end of me getting back into this game.

If the PvE is too much for you, I wouldn't bother. There's far worse things lurking in the SoT depths

I thought that a trip to the Ferry fixed the spawning of skelletons, not sailing back & forth.
