@captinwookie its a really distracting way to communicate that will have your readers more focused on having certain words yelled at them than focusing on your point. There is a reason why authors don't write this way.

obviously the emote is an advantage, i dont think anyone here is saying otherwise. the discussion boils down to A, should people have advantages in the game and if so, B, how big an advantage is acceptable and does the emote fall into that range
personally for me no people should not have advantages that are out of reach of any player from the 1st moment they enter the game. you can hide on ships/islands with a wide range of emotes however the barrel emote is the only one which allows you to hide in plain sight. however the advantage is tiny and just like with the DA sails rare have shown they are not willing to take even the tiniest of steps to balance the game, so people annoyed at the emote are probably going to be waiting for a while

That's fair. Personally i wouldn't mind advantages from playing longer than other people, nothing too big. Just stuff like the DA sails or an iron sight on your pistol.
Lots of other games get by just fine with offering vertical progress and while i don't really want full blown vertical progress in SoT i would like... let's call it diagonal progression with a ceiling in place.
Just my personal preference honestly, i like the cosmetic progress just fine and i'll live with it if that's all this game will ever have.
PS i think the barrel emote is diagonal progression. Which i like, but if rare wanted to create a way for new players to get it i honestly wouldn't mind. I think it was pretty low in the seasonal reward thingy anyway.
I was really annoyed to have missed out on getting this emote because I was unable to play much during Season Two. I am a long term player, not quite Day One but long enough to have got to Level 50 in Merchants doing animal fetch quests! I am maxxed out in every faction except Reapers Bones (and well on the way there.) I also have a Seas of Thieves fansite that gets thousands of hits a week, offering help to players doing riddle quests. I have spent far more than the cost of the game in making cosmetic purchases via the Emporium.
I do feel entitled to this emote! I should be able to get it some other way, now that Season Two is long gone.
I do not care that some of you think is it useless, or easily detected, or that there are other (better) ways to hide. It is a unique, potentially game-changing, disguise, and should be available to all somehow.
SoT has always had an element of FOMO built into it. Look at how mad all the Arena players (myself included) are right now because they are going to have a hard time finishing those commendations before Arenas are removed, and will likely never be able to get those items again.
That said, the barrel emote is hilarious when used on land but is a terrible emote to use when trying to hide on someone's ship. Most people are familiar with barrel placement on their own ship, and will definitely notice the wobbly one, but they aren't likely to notice an extra barrel just chilling in a cannon tower. Everyone should have the opportunity to do this, IMO it should be a free emote in the store at all times.

Let's see here -whips out notes-
Rare is planning to re-release some of the free season cosmetics but they're not sure how they want to do it, and if they already know how, we don't know when they will do it.
Barrel Disguise is not an overpowered emote, it's bigger than most of the barrels in the game, does not mimic the colors of the ones on FoTD or the Devil's Roar, is insanely impractical for most of its uses for anyone with relatively good game sense (e.g. the emote doesn't sway with the ship and is slightly bigger than most of the barrels on all of the ships | if used on an island people are bound to see your mermaid/you get attacked by the island's enemies)
Any steals or successful plays involving this emote are on the fault of an inexperienced player that got outplayed by it, the hide emote is for free, still available, and still usable for hiding against even some of the more aware-but-inexperienced players in the game.
Please, stop going in circles about this, if you got outplayed by an emote that is literally an oversized barrel you have no one to blame but yourself or your crew for not checking for things, being able to tell the difference between a barrel that is on your boat, or defeating the pirate that attacked you.

Oh, is that what we're talking about? Let's see... The advantages the barrel emote gives to players over others, depends on others.
If you're a noob, the barrel will have a great advantage over you. If you've played long enough to have seen the barrel 2-3 times already, the barrel emote will have 0 advantage over you, because it's too damn different and unnatural.
Did I manage to address your internal torment on the barrel emote now?

I AGREE, only cosmetic items. not PvP related emotes that morph your character into hidding.
You're blowing this more out of proportion that it really is
If you're letting someone use Barrel Disguise on your sloop, you haven't been well informed about new things this game has, and/or you're a noob that needs a few rough lessons to be taught.
There is no issue with Barrel Disguise at this current point, and they are obviously planning to make that emote return later, this discussion is not worth lasting over 2 pages of posts, let alone 1. It's not going to make the devs bring the emote back faster, it's just going to clutter this feedback forum with complaint posts of all kinds.

It was a free emote available to everybody that lasted an entire season and they have more or less said that it will return at some point one way or another so no real issue here. Hide emotes let you glitch into loot and kegs to become invisible and are far more useful in general. Swaying barrels stand out a mile!
