@frankdog14359 it's probably gonna be about a few hours... worse case scenario, we don't get in to SoT until tomorrow. Been waiting for 2 hours now while live on Twitch...

Only when they push a big update or do an event, but everytime they do, yes.. unfortunately

It's the fact that everyone's trying to get on all at once for the event, more people trying the more problems and now we're down until they sort it out.
You mean lag, hit registration issues, meggies dropping your ship to stratosphere? yes, it is allways like this.
Logging problems are not usual, but the potato servers are 24/7/365 like this

As long as they extend it and we can make up our time tomorrow or something, and get our log in bonuses that most of us are 100% going to miss at this point...
Then I can deal with it. A day at this point is always going to be a mistake though. These things should be done over a 48hour period

It's frustrating that this seems to happen with the majority of events. I'm so excited to see Rare grow beyond everyone's expectations, but at some point, you gotta start expecting more people logging on than you were initially expecting. Or start expecting more from the people responsible for events preparedness. Or maybe the people should start expecting less from Rare? Either way, expectations will eventually change, somewhere. In fact, if you really listen, they've already started.......Great community day! I manage to enter and take a galleon, more than two hours lost waiting for my friends to be able to log in, and they have not succeeded. Now I would like to launch myself with a sloop, and it won't let me in. I do not add offenses or negative comments, think about my day, and put yourself in my shoes, come to my own conclusions!
My guess is that the servers themselves are virtual machines that are spun up automatically and elastically with the load, but it seems that whatever system is responsible for authentication doesn't (or can't) scale as well.
Either that or DNS. If there's a problem, it's always DNS.
@musicmee for the IT infrastructure guys here who are curious, do you have any more detailed technical info on where the problem is? It might help people sympathize with the poor SREs who are probably working their butts off to put out the fires.
@plumbherhub its not a server capacity issue, the game servers are running just fine. The issue is with the logon service, that one is gatting hammered by hundreds of thousands of requests every second.
This problem is exacerbated by people not being able to connect, because they are going to spam it as fast as they can. basicly if we could convince all people to stop clicking for some time between tries (e.g. they try and then not do it again for about 5 minutes)
this isnt something that would be a final fix for times like this and the Dev team need to look into other options when expecting a large influx of players
- Some sort of queuing system for the logon system in cases of high player influx
- Better Error handling in game and frontend, dont unnecesarily kick players back to the very first screen forcing another relogon

Tomorrow is monday, not everyone Will be a lê to join. A resheculed (at least partially) for the next weekend would be more fair.

Same. Trying for hours, then my buddy gets on at first attempt. I don't see why I shouldn't be able to join a friend, surely his closed crew has space for 1. Ragin.
@musicmee you should get danger money, how about somebody at rare steps forward with what's going on instead of sending you out. Get some ownership for your issues rare and stop this happening on every event.

So have they put a STOP to extra gold and Rep and Community day has been canceled????
I don't think they should do that (stop the multiplier) for the people who were able to get into the game. It's possible that those who are already in servers are not playing with their friends or will have some other issue that's preventing them from experiencing the day like it was intended.
The best thing that they can do is reschedule.
And have a good talk with the team who thought this was a good idea.
I highly, highly doubt that their technical team was on-board for the whole "lets blow up twitter and also have a massive gold giveaway". I'm sure whoever is working on diagnosing these issues today is under serious stress and is not happy about this.

I agree, I started a server at 10am u.k time and my screen just frozen after 10 hours.
I was running a 4 ship alliance with my crew and two were kicked in total.
I managed to sell during gold hour and made 3mill which was great then kicked after selling a lone chest of rage at reapers trying to merm back.
I agree that if your friends are on a ship with space then why get kiwi beard.
One of my friends got kicked 1hr before we sold after a 5hr grind and I feel so bad for him for that 3mill loss.
Community day should be scrapped and a triple money hour introduced to even out the field if servers can't cope.
