Man o' War As A Skeleton Ship only

  • There are numerous videos going around taking about how the man o war is just too big for the servers to handle currently, so why not make the massive ship an enemy. With it scaled up even more (16 cannons 8 per side and split between two decks) it would be a threat that only an alliance could take on or have a sloop board it instead

There might be room in the game for this, especially since Rare already designed and partially coded vessels larger than a galleon for the Pirate's Life Tall Tales. They could function as the "final boss" of the skeleton fleet events.

I'd love Man O Wars to be implemented into the game as skeleton boss-ships. While having them be part of skeleton fleets is an option, personally I like the idea of them being an event of their own, or perhaps them being roaming bosses (they travel across the map) more.

  • To OP I just wanted to mention that I recently also made a post on this topic. Here's the link if you're interested (and my post also contains links to some other interesting posts): https://www.seaofthieves.com/community/forums/topic/144357/man-o-war-adventure-mode-world-boss

Just so long as they can't randomly spawn on players. @omegamon02 is describing something that is dangerous enough to require preparation and coordination, so it should only aggro if a crew voluntarily chooses to approach/engage it.

It spawning on top of players does not sound good yeah. But perhaps if it were a roaming boss it would be marked on the map or something, so players can clearly see it coming? Kind of like how you can clearly see a Reaper coming for you. It only aggroing if you go too close (like close enough to see the crew without a spyglass more or less) or start shooting at it sounds good as well.

  • sounds like a cool PVE event if you ask me. as it stands the current fleet events don't prove much of a challenge.

  • RTI think it will become a player ship evenly if they make the server, map and player count bigger....im sure there is a lot cool thing they could do with more, They might be prototyping sea of theves 2 or some kind of payed upgrade to the base game maybe . It feel like were hitting the base limit for adding stuff to the game, well it feels like it to me anyway.

"Paid Upgrade"? No. Absolutely no. That is the day I leave sea of thieves behind. Because then people with the "upgrade" would have to be limited to only being placed against other people who also have it, and that would split the playerbase.

With that said, a player Man O War will only be feasible if they increase the map size and player/ship count (player/ship count is tied to the size of the map). And it would have to be balanced VERY carefully, so as to give all other ships an equal chance against it, both in combat and when running away. Sloops, brigs and galleons should all be able to take on and run away from it, but at the same time, the Man O War should also be able to take them on under the right conditions. And that, I think, will not be easy to accomplish.

And we are not hitting the limit for adding things to the base game, I think. I'm confident they'll find a solution to be able to increase the map size and player/ship count eventually. And if that fails, add new islands onto a second map, and then players will be able to travel between the two maps by portal.

portals are more likely the near future of the game but more of a map pack reskin then an upgrade to the base game but you know some games companies do that for years
