New Cosmetics : Customizable Cannon Shots

  • Ill show you an example of how this could perfectly work: When you defeat Flameheartz fleet, you can find some deposit boxes with ghost balls inside, can't you? The normal ghost balls are a green ghost with the same effect of a normal cannon ball, the big ghost gives a lot of holes like a keg, and the red ghost is a fire one, so, I was thinking: What if Rare added customizable cannon balls for sale? They would have the same damage as normal cannonballs , the only difference would be their skin, they could even sell it at Pirate Emporium, it would be a way to give more profit to Rare, imagine if you buy a Bat Ball customization, so every time you fire your cannons, a Bat is shoot to the enemy ship, . Or What about a Pirate Legend customizable cannonball? Everytime you shot a cannonball, a Blue Skull comes from your cannon and hits the enemy ship with the same damage as normal balls?

    Note: Im suggesting only new skins for cannon balls, im not suggesting to sell balls that give more damage like the Big Ghost balls from Flameheartz Fleet

    It's a nice idea, but I don't think it will be implemented. Players currently use both audio and visual cues to know what's being fired at them- cursed cannonballs are trailed by green or purple smoke, chain shot make a distinct whooshing sound as they fly through the air, firebombs are orange, etc. If you add additional cosmetics to cannon shots, you're essentially adding noise to this information.

    Even the ghostly cannonballs provide information to the other crew; it tells them that you've completed the flameheart event, that you can fire more shots without needing to refill your pockets (ghost cannonballs fill your cursed cannonball inventory space), and that you might deploy wraithballs if given the opportunity.

    I agree that players could use additional cosmetics choices to spend their gold on, such as new harpoon or rowboat skins. What about adding options for changing the sound your cannon makes when it's fired (not the sound of the cannonball traveling through the air)?

  • @limbicfanatic Sound is another way Pirate's identify the type of shot being fired from a cannon. Seeing as this would hinder those with more eyepatches than the rest of us, this type of change likely will not happen.

    As far as I'm aware, the game uses a different sound effect when you hear cannons fired at a distance- this effect would be unchanged. I was only suggesting changing the 'up-close' sound the cannon makes when fired. This is only me speculating, though; I don't have any hard data to back it up.

    Well, that's certainly an easy test. Leave a crewmate behind on an island, and have them listen to the different types of shots from varying distances as the ship sails away.
