Should Galleons be in the same server as sloops?

  • I feel that Galleons provide a constant sense of fear and paranoia while you - the sloop - are in the same server as them. Not only do they have 4 times the firepower, but double the men if not more as well. While I do believe the galleon adds variety to the game, sloops hardly stand a chance against them.
Let me know what your thoughts are.

  • I see no problem with it, as it really depends on the Crews that make up the Ships as opposed to the Ships themselves. There are many Sloops out there who will take down Galleons because the Crew is capable of doing so. There is also a lot of the reverse too, because the Galleon is a tank if Crewed correctly. Since it can go both ways based on Crews I think it is just fine.

  • @tr1pled0uble

    Yes. Yes they should.

    (Solo slooper btw)

    I had scooper for a while there....😅🧜‍♀️

  • galleons are largely open crew chaos fests

there are very skilled galleons but it's not the majority

they take beefier krakens and megs and get skelly galleon spawns so it all evens out alright

just avoid them or bounce a server if one bugs you and you don't wanna fight

low skill galleons are very useful for a person trying to learn how to sail and how to fight as a solo

  • I outrun galleons in my sloop quite easily thanks to the sloop's manueverability - and it's easy to get into position and disable galleons, due to their large size, with cursed cannonballs. 😁

  • Yes 100%

Imagine a server where everyone is on sloops... where everyone goes the same speed, everyone has the same pros and everyone has the same cons... the outcomes would be very boring and the outcome would be the same every time.

A mix of ships and a mix of player styles is what makes this game unique and different everytime...

  • best thing about galleons? the few times you run into a solo galleon acting bizarre or highly aggressive

I've ran into 3-4 solo galleons over the years that were hilarious

I remember one time a long time ago I got all sorts of dominated by a solo -hit every shot no matter the shot- guy on a galleon.

One time I was doing a solo ashen winds at cannon cove and a solo galleon crashed right into me but wasn't hostile. I gave him the loot on his galleon and I went to the outpost to wait for him and he got krakened and sank right in front of me while I was sitting on the dock.

  • If you don't fear a sloop as a galleon, that sloop is doing it wrong.

  • provide a constant sense of fear and paranoia

As so do everything else. But yeah they should remain and this won’t ever change.

Fear drives you to sell quicker. Fight or flight

  • @tr1pled0uble my buddy and I actively sink galleons on sloop. Its about the crew not the ship. We throw up reapers and attack other ships especially galleons because they often have more loot because they think the bigger ship keeps it safe.

  • As a sloop user myself I can say that if you manage to chain shot a galleons masts and circle them applying constant pressure it is difficult for them to recover, the sloop can turn quicker, raise sails and anchor quicker and so it really can escape a galleon if needed, the biggest issue with the sloops is that it only has one mast meaning chain shots are your worst enemy. Some will argue that it is quick to raise the sloops mast so it really isn't an issue, but if the opposing crew is applying constant pressure with cannons it is very difficult to get that mast back up.

  • What @musicmee said. I love asymmetrical play. Because all ships have different strengths and weaknesses makes for a more interesting, more diverse experience.

  • As a slooper or a solo slooper sometimes, 90% of the galleons pose no threat at all. It is just an open crew mayhem or barely an average crew usually. So no, galleons should not be isolated in any way. A capable sloop will always win an average galleon, as it should.

  • Thanks for giving some awesome input for me to think about👍

  • Thankfully, Rare did a great job of balancing each ship type with a full crew against all the other ship types with a full crew. Is it a perfect balance? No. But it's incredible how close they got all things considered.

Play to the strengths of you and your ship, and you'll see a lot more success than you think. Being able to naval at a distance is huge against a galleon. They're a nice big target with poor maneuverability. You're a small target with great maneuverability. A battle with a galleon that's got a competent crew should be a long battle if you're playing it right.

Too many sloops go into a fight with a larger ship thinking they're going to outgun them; beat them with brute strength and hero play. Unless you're an elite player, that's not going to work unless the larger ship is manned by a below-average crew.

Probably 99% of my 2k+ hours are on a sloop...and probably 75% of those hours are solo. I'd rather fight a galleon or brig than another sloop any day lol.

  • I've been sunk by more Sloops than all the other ships combined.

  • It all depends on the crew

  • I don't fear Galleons at all on a Sloop. Head into wind, drag them into rocks or even better the Roar, have some fun and watch the frustration build and grind them down. They'll either quit or you'll win from them making mistakes. Don't play to the Galleons strengths. Open crew Galleons are just funny to see. A Brig is what you should be scared of.

  • They should
