Rear harpoons or other ways to reverse a ship!

    We need to rear harpoons or some other way to reverse our ships to get us out of those tough spots.

    Too often do I play with crews that aren't the best at sailing, and often find myself in a situation where I am trying to get us out of a hole that we have found ourselves in, a harpoon on the back of the ship would be perfect! irl pirates had ways to move their ships in reverse so we should too!

    The back harpoons can also be a great way to slow big ships down for a quicker approach to islands, just shoot the ground behind you and reel in to bring your ship to a swift stop without lowering the anchor as raising sails still take quite some time to bring the big ships to a stop.

    You can reverse a ship by raising sail and anchor, rotating the wheel fully against the obstacle its stuck on and aim fully back and fire the harpoon at the sea bed and reel it in using secondary action button (mouse button or controller trigger) and it should eventually pull it out.

    This is already possible today. Both brake the ship and get it out of a stranding, using harpoon

    @maironds88 has it right. The current harpoons let you reverse to back out of tight spots. (also great for just slowing the ship so there is no need to anchor when pulling up to an outpost).

    If you aren't sure how, just point the harpoon as far astern as it will go. You may need to work both the left and right to 'keep to straight' but you can get it out of the tightest of spots like this.

    Have you ever seen a ship run by sails go backwards? I havnt. But you can already go backwards, the game kind of does it if it feels you are stuck.

    Also. If you need to go backwards. Maybe fix your driving/parking?

    Also, you could always equip a harpoon rowboat onto the back of your ship. 😉

    @TEK-LT a harpoon on the back of a ship would be cool but, what about the sloop? that cover would make the harpoon idea a bit bad but a good idea.

    @imonlyuseful fyi you can already back up ships if each person is using a harpoon. Also this thread was 4 months old

    You can use harpoons or let the boat drift back.

    Also how do we lock this it's 4 months old
