I mean this with all respect. I love this game and have learned to continue to love it despite the numerous amount of consistent bugs, but as it stands, it feels like the game is at its worse in regards to bugs.
It feels like with each update, as a few things are fixed, more things are broken, and the way things are with duct tape.
I want to reiterate. I love this game. If these things never get resolved, I'll continue to play the game because there is nothing like Sea of Thieves and I am very thankful for everything the development team has done.
That said, the game is in a miserable state.
serious bugs
There use to be just pistol / sniper hit reg, but now we have :
- food reg
- bucket reg
- blunder bomb reg
- cannonball reg
- blunderbuss reg
- sword combat is completely broken
- eye of reach ADS bug still happens randomly
These things don't just affect people seeking PVP combat. This affects players defending themselves against PVP. It of course also effects PVE combat, but to a lesser extent since there is relatively less danger (unless it's something like fighting the Skeleton Fleet, in which case the bucket issues can be a death sentence).
the bucket is the most bugged it's ever been
- bucket not picking up water
- throwing out water but it filling up the ship instead
- water still in bucket after throwing out
- visual bug of water splashing when thrown out the sloop window
in intense situations it's literally a gamble whether or not the bucket is working properly
server lag and stuttering
- strange desync issues that make dealing with PVE spike trap quests incredibly frustrating
- more recently random lag spikes that teleports the player
These have increased in severity this season teleporting players off ships, teleporting them into unintended dangerous situations, etc.
not being able to retrieve purchase supply crates
- supply crates, cannonball crates, wood planks... a great addition to the game but not so much when we lose tens of thousands of gold because we can't retrieve them
- work arounds for this include going to a new server or buying even more crates? it's very frustrating
silent boarding fixed but also not fixed
- not only can you still do a normal silent board, but it's possible to do a "naturally" quiet board by staying still in the water as you grab the ladder
not sure how intended the current state of silent boarding is, but it's definitely still in the game
minor annoyances
can't interact with rowboats
- undocking a rowboat, sometimes you have to kill your pirate to be able to interact with the rowboat
- sometimes it's impossible to interact with the rowboat lantern
lots of world event music bugs
- world event music ending abruptly or playing the wrong song depending on the event wave
inaccesible loot
- when an enemy is killed that spawns loot, sometimes their loot will spawn in a wall, or in a rock. this can sometimes make getting fort keys impossible
bugged quests and world events
- merchant ship quests not spawning
- breath of the sea not present on breath of the sea quests
- skeletons not spawning on OOS quests unless you leave the island and come back
- skeleton lords stuck in geometry and only reset if you leave the fort and come back
island PVE spawn rates very inconsistent
- sometimes PVE spawn rates are still very overwhelming and unending
ship launching backwards from docks at outposts
- if you anchor nose first at a dock, your ship will sometimes randomly be launched backwards a hefty distance
skele ships despawning mid combat (and launching into space)
- multiple times i've seen skele ships despawn in the middle of combat
- recently noticed a lot of skele ships flying into space for no apparent reason... really more funny than anything
visual bugs on ship when portal hopping
- ship looking like it's on fire
- cursed cannonball effects carrying over and consistently showing on your ship until you kill your pirate
heavy FPS drops at outposts / larger islands
- with each new update have been having to lower settings to cursed just to turn in loot or visit bigger island in a less janky manner
long distance LOD ships not showing proper sail length / emmisary flag length
- the "one size fits all" LOD ship model used for ships makes it impossible to tell the actual nature of a ship when very far away
Once again I love Sea of Thieves and will continue to enjoy the game and support through purchasing season passes and cosmetics. I love it that much in spite of the numerous bugs.
I just want to see the game be its best, and currently, it's in a very unfortunate state.
