Flare gameplay and signalling

    I really like the new flares and enjoy firing them off whenever I can find the slightest reason.

    I thought it would be interesting if there was some sort of game event that created particularly dark seas at night so that flares would be necessary for safe navigation. Perhaps a lunar eclipse or some sort of majic curse.

    Additionally I like firing them off when I see a ship approaching if I am doing a voyage and don't want any trouble. I have no idea how other ships perceive this warning shot though. I also shoot fireworks if the other ship does not seem aggressive as a way to say hello.

    How about everyone else, is there any message you intend for other crews by firing a flare or fireworks?

    If you were on the prowl and a target ship fired a flare would you heed the warning?

    There is already a gameplay benefit to using Flares at night: Shadow Skeletons are made vulnerable by the light they cast, so you can use them during Order of Souls quests to make things easier on yourself if you're battling a wave of them at night.

    I would then know they are aware of me. Wouldn’t change a thing as far as me still attacking if I was already on an approach except for maybe a different angle.

    That is good to know! I was more thinking about PvP, but PvE is also important.

    flares just instantly became unspoken banter between me and my opponents

    flares and fireworks in the middle of battle gets the point across without it becoming unpleasantries

    @harrowmaster The other day, I used a white 1 to signal another ship. Next thing I knew, I was invited to their party and we struck up a very mutually profitable alliance for well over 3+ hours. 😊
