Buried Treasure Board - Highlight Player Maps

  • I have been putting lots of effort into burying treasure, but with the NPC generated treasure maps, its easy for a good map to be lost. I would suggest that any map placed by a player should be bordered in gold when looked at on the board at the docks. A good few players, especially newer or poorly informed crews, will likely assume that all maps give two small items, like the automatically generated ones do and they will just start to ignore the board and anything placed on there, especially if someone has a name, (like mine), which fits with the npc naming style.

At the very least, if someone places a "hoard", then that should be highlighted. That way someone can immediately see that a high value map with many items has been placed.

  • @sally-kraken agree, I thought first, there are only player maps on that board...but that names weren't player names
Good that those exist, pretty sure soon bury stuff will almost die...

  • I like where you're going with this, but I think it could be simpler than that - show pirate names in gold. Easy!

No on the gold to indicate of a hoarde of loot, though. Like with everything else that's buried, you ain't never gonna know what you're gonna get.

  • Or maybe they could also set it so that there are only ever RNG ones shown IF there are no player generated ones available (just set the minimum available to 2 always, that means you have either 2 RNG, an RNG and a player one, or multiple player ones. That makes sure that the Board always has something (and I would make the RNG ones even more RNG to better simulate what a player could do, maybe even a 1% chance of a Chest of Legends, but really just about anything a player could bury should be an option), and means in most cases you should be seeing player made ones.

Edit: Also, if a Ship (NPC or Player) sinks and drops Loot, if that Loot would despawn from sinking it should automatically generate a Lost Shipment Voyage that contains that Loot (mostly in the Captain's Cabin). This would expand on the player generated content in an interesting way and essentially "preserve" any Loot generated on a server until such time as it is handed in (it remains in play in some way or another).

  • @redeyesith
That could be a bit of a problem in terms of value, I have had ships sink with a lot of gold (250k +) so it would be disproportionate payoff.

  • @miserenz just like with the Maps, split it at some set limit of items. That would break major hauls up into multiple Voyages just as people can bury however much Loot they like (it just starts making more Maps after 10 items, keep that limit here).

And again, it is only if the Loot sinks and would despawn that it would make the Map.

On top of that, for server Strain, only let a Crew have a single Shipment Voyage active in their list at a time (since the wreck does add some server strain I'm sure, just less than a play Ship by a considerable margin). Or some other limit based on what the server can handle at any given time.

  • @galactic-geek Well, it does already note "hoard" in the title, to show more loot than a "stash" - but its not particularly visible.

  • An other thing that should be added is a glittering effect on the eye-patch (there is a golden nugget) of the skull on top of the board when there is a Hoard or a player map just saying "hey! come here there is a nice loot"
