Emote Radial Rework

  • I love getting new emotes for my pirate. Each one is a different expression, and I like to collect expressions. One of my greatest pleasures is checking out the new weapon emotes with every emporium update. At present, I have 14 weapon emotes. I've learned to pick and choose, sure, but I wish I wouldn't have to spend the time deciding which one I might use more... For some, 40 emotes is plenty, sure, but for pirates like me, the worst part of every update is trying to remake the emote radials and decide what gets cut. 40 was a great number back when emotes were released, but now there are too many emotes to choose from. I have the first radial with the OG 8, some replaced with the same emote in other sets. I have one of my radials dedicated to holding equipment, and I've had to replace some with the newer instrument emotes. That's 16 gone already, and only for two ideas. Sure, I could slim it down, but the point is that slimming down is something I want to avoid. Yes, I use all 40 in specific situations.
I've now got to decide on how many dice emotes to use + where to put them in an already cluttered 5 pages of emotes. I should be able to use all of them.

Plus, rummaging through 5 pages of emotes can get tedious, especially when you press incorrectly.

I'd like to propose a change that would not only make my life easier, but also make finding emotes faster. What if we were able to select, not emotes, but tabs of emotes?

This would not only give players more room for emotes, but also the ability to get to a tab with a flick of the wrist/right stick.
The main problem is data storage, and what Rare is willing to store for every pirate on the seas. Even if we were still only able to have 5 tabs, I would still want this made for ease-of-use.

Yes we have many different emotes but many are locked behind ancient coins that you must pay money for. Not everyone has money to spend on a virtual emote or simply doesn’t want every emote available.

5 sets of emote wheels is fine. Personally myself I have more emotes than space but most of the time I’m not using the emotes anyway unless I’m posing for lizalaroo capture a code contest. The first few slots should be for emotes you use often and the last few should be the ones you swap out for different occasions

Just because some don't have the use for something doesn't mean it's invalid. As I said, plenty think that 40 is enough, that's fine. Not my experience, not the experience of the people who want more radials.
At the very least it's a QoL improvement for a clunky emote selection system.

  • I love this idea, though curious if this would be Rare putting tags on emotes or players putting tags on emotes. The latter would be better but maybe more memory intensive? I am not sure on those aspects.

I wish we could even just purchase emote inventory slots or something. There are a number of emotes I haven't purchased simply because I don't want to redo my wheel again (though I'm going to have to with the new dice set).

My idea was that each player could name their own tags, so then I could name a tag "luck" and put in all the dice roll emotes and the coin flips.
Purchasing emote inventory slots feels like holding the player ransom over a QoL change. If you payed money buying the emotes, that would indirectly be paying for the emote radials anyway.

  • Y'know, that makes way more sense and my brain is tired.

Oh, no, I definitely feel the same way. I'd rather not pay AND have more slots because of how many they keep releasing. It's just frustrating that it seems it is met with derision.

  • I'd like to propose a change that would not only make my life easier, but also make finding emotes faster.

What about the rest of the players who enjoy the current way of things? Why only improve yourself but ruin others? Little mean if you ask me.

  • @burnbacon
It was a joke, of course more than myself would be interested in improving emote radials. I also don't see how it would "ruin" anything.
