Spawn Scaling

  • Playing solo as a sloop, having JUST raised Gold Hoarders emissary and looted a spawned shipwreck, the trumpet for a skeletal ship spawn sounded (but then weirdly played a second time halfway through the first trumpet, I passed it off thinking the audio had just glitched for a moment.) Had not one but two Skeletal Galleons spawn either side of my ship. Turns out the audio hadn't bugged, it really had decided to just spawn two of them.
There was no fleet cloud in the sky and the sky was pretty clear, no storms nearby.

I didn't open fire, I kept sailing the same direction as I was heading to an outpost to sell what meagre things I'd picked from the wreck (2 skulls, a gem and a chest.) I had the wind, not that it matters because they match speed regardless.
Suddenly both Galleon opened fire and despite fixing all I could and bucketing, it was impossible to keep up with the blasts and fact one of them decided to ram my ship, sending me way off course.

Was on the server less than 20 minutes, having just set sail solo in a sloop and with little supplies (ie, no magic balls, food or much wood to repair) when both of them spawned on me.

It would be nice to see a bit more customization to the random encounters to ensure players aren't immediately wiped off the map by ridiculous power spawns.

(I ALT+F4'd because it was late at night and I just wanted one quick sail. Wasn't worth it.)
Honestly, it may have been a glitch. There was no fleet cloud in the sky and no event title (Battle for the Sea of Thieves), plus with the way the audio played it sounded pretty buggy.

  • where were you on the map when this happened

  • As a Solo Sloop, what is the problem?
Was this meant to be a Tale? with a little "want"? Because I love to these moments, makes things lively.

It was around Morrow's Peak Outpost. I'd just accepted a quest for Kraken's Fall but headed North to keep the wind as long as possible (and due to rough seas altering my course), ended up spotting the shipwreck between Cinder Islet and Flintlock Peninsula or thereabouts. Picked up and started heading South again back towards the outpost when they spawned.

yeah then this is like a once in a pirate's life moment and isn't anything that you're likely to ever see again

I hunt skelly ships as a part of my session every day and I've never seen it

the most I've seen is a bunch of players around each other and the spawns bug out and a sloop ends up with a nearby brig's galleon spawn but if you didn't have players around this is even more rare.

Very very very unlikely you will ever see this again.
