Audio settings suggestion: dialogue slider

  • It would be nice if we had the option to separately adjust/mute dialogue volume. This includes things like tall tales, flameheart, basically anything with a pop-up text box that talks to you. Right now, dialogue volume is in the SFX slider.

To add a related suggestion, I think it would be nice if important but short sound cues like cannonball hits, wind in your sails, skeleton ships sinking, etc. had a separate slider from background music. I think most of those are currently in music, and it would be nice if they were moved to something like SFX or given their own category.

    Edit: wording

  • While that would be easy for a single player game, for an open world game like SOT it would be a whole other matter.

Would you be able to explain your thoughts? These settings are already adjustable client-side, this suggestion is about the categories they're currently in.

  • Love this idea
I would love to lower the ocean/ wind sounds. After a while of sailing it really starts to hurt my ears/head.. but if I turn the game volume down I can’t hear the other sounds. Also hard to hear my crew over the waves/sea sounds. Someone else said something similar about wanting to lower fly sounds ( I guess they have a phobia) If they could just give us more advanced sound settings that would be great.

  • More audio accessibility is a win

  • Yeah more precise sliders would be great; I generally like to listen to music while playing games, but I would potentially miss a lot of cues in this one if I were to do so.

  • I think, ideally, we would have:

    Music
    SFX (Cannon hits, swords, etc)
    Environment (Waves, wind, etc)
    Dialogue
    Voice

And then potentially some Accessibility options for muting very specific noises that bug people (like flies).

  • It would just make it easier to hear sounds like boarding and would make pvp even worse.
