Disconnected due to inactivity

  • Why can't one reconnect due to inactivity? I went to see the door as someone knocked, he came back and took me out of the game ... I lost everything I had ...

    • because there is still no option to connect to this game or server?

  • For servers to be healthy they need activity

Kicking people for being inactive is necessary and allowing them to rejoin only slows down the process of getting new people on the server.

Everyone has times where they get busy or distracted but it's not the obligation of others to suffer activity consequences for it.

  • Players who choose to ‘Leave Game’ or are disconnected due to being left idle are not presented with the option to re-join their session.

For more info: https://support.seaofthieves.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360035181454-Rejoining-a-Session#:~:text=If a player finds themselves,Crews Session to carry on.

  • @tyan1 emote before leaving, any of the sleep/hide emotes are great for this.

You have 10 minutes when you do this before lazybeard hits. More than enough time for anything.

  • Because then people using bots to afk, could just reconnect.

    It's there to punish afking.

Wow! How long were you at the door? The timer is more than 10 minutes.

  • Just yesterday, I got pulled away from the Sea to answer the call of familial obligations and by the time I got back I had been lazybearded. But you know what? I wouldn't have traded that moment that I got to spend with my family for the world.

  • @wolfmanbush How does reconnecting slow down the server? I understand that one should not be afk, but .. with me they did not spend more than 10 minutes hahaha anyway it should be a punishment if you stay 2 times afk, do not get you out the first time .. or a warning sign

If you are allowed to rejoin that means your boat is still taking up space and the lack of activity is extended

this would mean that the 10-15 minutes of inactivity is now extended another 5 or 10 minutes to allow a rejoin

It takes people time to gather loot before they truly become valuable to a server and if people are afk and then can take up space for a rejoin and then another crew or 2 or 3 are taking the spot after that and leaving due to server hopping or whatever before someone actually does something of value to the server then the server suffers for extended periods of time.

We need people active consistently. It's already a struggle to find a truly active organic experience and any extension of inactivity only makes that worse

  • @tyan1 it slows down someone who is actively playing being able to join. In order for you to reconnect the server has to reserve your spot and not let a new crew join the server for however long said reconnect period is. So, while I don't know all the exact numbers here is an example:

    AFK Timeout = 10 minutes
    Reconnect Threshold = 10 minutes

That is 20 minutes of there being an essentially empty space on the server that someone who would be actively playing can't be slotted in - meaning activity on the server as a whole has been slowed down by 16% (6 Ships total, 1 Ship is 16% of that server population) for a 20 minute span of time.

So it is a balancing act.

  • @tyan1

So...like...how long do you want your player (and ship) to just sit there idle? 20 minutes? 30 minutes? Indefinitely?

    I think it's about 15 minutes currently.

Surely you understand why an afk crew member cannot sit there indefinitely...right?

  • Isn’t the inactive timer like 10min?

If you can’t answer a door within 5 then shutdown the game.

  • @redeyesith oh now I understand better, thanks bro!

But what if your server has been re-populated with a new ship? There is potential for the server to go beyond capacity, or cause a major crash if the servers are trying to connect a new crew AND you reconnect.

Not really. You spend 4 hours doing voyages with a boat load of loot but sometimes something more important comes up. Fortunately on Xbox you can turn the controller upside down and make your player spin signifying movement. The Xbox controller will eventually disconnect but that doesn’t change in game player action. I only play solo . I’m guessing with a crew you just rejoin and lose nothing.

If it is more important than a GAME and takes longer than 10 minutes, what is the problem here?

The reason why you can’t reconnect because of inactivity is because a lazy person is just taking space and can hurt the Sea of Thieves experience.

Have you ever tried to kill a kraken on a gallon? It literally takes all 4 people to survive. Events such as this are scaled on crew sizes. If you have a lazybeard then other players must pick up the slack and it becomes more difficult and in some cases, impossible.
