Let Us Buy Levels In The Plunder Pass

  • It would help so much to people who just doesn’t have all the time to play and get everything. It also helps make more money to support the game. If you don’t wanna “scam” people into spending money on it, then do what either Destiny 2 or Rogue Company does…

Destiny 2 doesn’t let people pay to buy levels until about 3 weeks after the start of the season, allowing people to level up without paying first.

Rogue Company doesn’t let people pay to buy levels until they pay for the actual “premium pass.” That ways people also aren’t just randomly spending money at the start unless they fully commit and buy both pass and levels.

  • Seasonal pass is entirely designed around casual play.

If people don't play much during 3 month seasons I don't see much of a reason to cater to their inactivity

  • Play a couple of hours 3-5 days do several events you can get to level 100.

  • would help so much to people who just doesn’t have all the time to play and get everything

If you expect this, don’t buy the pass.
    Very simple.

  • The Plunder Pass is designed around casual play, but you have to play more than a few hours every 3 weeks or you won't make 100.

I do not feel we should have an option to buy levels in it. It would not encourage people to play the game and would reward inactivity.

You want people actively playing your game, not sure what Destiny is doing in that regard.

There is nothing to win by buying levels in the pass but that being said; I don't like the idea of it.

There can already be issues with peaks and troughs of player activity on the seas and buying levels would make that worse.

Buying levels would keep players off the seas, not bring them.

These passes are designed to keep players returning to the game.

  • @flamenoir4280
Tell that to cutthroat and lunar festival cannon flares.

  • The season is designed to be incredibly casual over its 12 week span. It's 30-40 total game hours of just general playing...even less if you're a player that likes to do world events.

I don't think there's any way to monetize such a small amount of play time that wouldn't either A) be a slap in the face to people that actually played the season... or B) be a "scam" for those that couldn't commit the time to the game.

  • @zerrryy I don't get it
    Aren't those just regular cosmetics?

  • @flamenoir4280
When using them you can see much easier where the shot is going, which makes it much easier to hit targets. Try comparing them to any other flares and you'll see the difference.

  • @personalc0ffee Destiny’s main draw isn’t the pass rewards, It’s the story content that comes with it. Also I’ve never seen anyone buy levels because it’s so easy to rank it up if you’re playing the game.

  • @zerrryy it you could just not use any flare and still be able to see fine.

  • @zerrryy That's simply something minor, similar things could've been said about the ghost sails already back in 2018...

  • During S1, I completed it just under 24 hours, split between multiple sessions - 3 hours here, 6 hours there, and 1 hour sessions too.

So let's break that down. You have 3 months, or roughly 90 days per Season.

    6 hour sessions = 4 sessions
    4 hour sessions = 6 sessions
    3 hour sessions = 8 sessions
    2 hour sessions = 12 sessions
    1 hour sessions = 24 sessions

So, even with the shortest sessions, at 1 hour a piece, you can set sail every 3rd day and still come under the wire.

If you ask me, that's perfectly reasonable.

I can only play usually on Saturday occasionally Sunday. I hit renown season 4 100 last Saturday 100% solo play. With that being said the rewards are generic. I do love the Halloween costume most 👍

  • ye it is fast but when i play something else i dont start sea of thieves for an hour.i reached 100 in season 2 and season 4,why i should play sea of thieves for an hour to get cosmetics when i have no fun in this moment .no publisher will catch me with those addiction mechanics.yes let it people buy i dont care

if your not having fun in the game then why are you playing ? you want to buy levels for a season pass you presumably (because your not having fun) haven't bought to get cosmetics you wont use because again, your not having fun.

it is stupidly easy to get level 100 and you dont need to put hours into the game on each session you play to raise your level. hell you dont even need to leave the outpost to get levels.

buying levels feels scummy because the game industry has made it scummy.

  • If I could downvote a post, this would be the one.

Making levels able to be bought would cheepen all of them. The point is to earn the cosmetics that can be gained from levels. All that the levels do is unlock cosmetics which are there as a reward of the effort people do in the game. If you can just buy the levels then that removes any point of doing any of the quests and work at all.

just meant i wouldnt start sot when i play something else i took two breaks thats why i missed season 1 and 3, time limited events are also scummy cause it make people log in . and where is the difference between buying levels for season cosmetics and overpriced emporium cosmetics?.all you have to do is playing the game its not a challenge , just a grind

  • U got what 3 months you can easily hit level 100 with in 5 days just by casually playing

  • @ajm123 nothing wrong with giving people more options

  • i'll agree that season passes are themselves also scummy. your basically paying to commit yourself to playing the game if you want everything, they should be paying you under those circumstances but because the game industry has gone so far with other scummy tactics people just accept the season pass.

the difference between paying for stuff in the store and paying for levels is that if the game offers you the chance to buy levels they then have a financial incentive to make the grind longer to try and bore/frustrate you into just buying the levels you need.

SoT does alot of stuff alot better than other companies but what they do worse is the constant cosmetic handouts, some people feel forced to constantly log in and play the game or watch for hours on twitch to get all the cosmetics. im sure some people will say simply dont bother about them but the fact is people do and that very fact is why SoT does it to boost its numbers

There is, if that option will demotivate player activity.

One of the reasons people even get on is to earn the rewards from the passes. If they could bypass the progress requirement and unlock everything all at once, it would give them one less reason to play.

    Also, regarding this nonsense:

    [Mod edited]

What Wolf said was that the game shouldn't cater to them, not that we shouldn't care about them. There is a difference.

Caring about the playerbase shouldn't also require Rare to ensure every player gets every possible title and cosmetic every season. They make this stuff available to everyone, and as other have pointed out, the progression is designed around casual play.

  • @theblackbellamy your arguement has no merit…destiny and COD both have passes and have way more players even if you take put ps players…so no it does not promote less activity…also does destiny and COD cater to people with passes? no

  • @madfrito99 said in Let Us Buy Levels In The Plunder Pass:

You could say the same thing about paying to complete events or paying to get twitch drops or paying for older cosmetics or paying for the shrouded ghost

It's a game based on activity and earning. Allowing people to replace effort and activity with money isn't compatible with the foundation of the game. It's counterproductive to activity which is necessary to keep the game going.

    As to the bold
people say a lot of things about a lot of things. Negative narratives pushed about communities as a whole often aren't indicators of accuracy.

  • @madfrito99 said:

However active those two games are, they may have even more activity if they didn't do that.

Again, the opportunity to have new things (cosmetics, titles, characters, weapons, whatever) is a reason to play.

If players can skip the progress requirement, it may not demotivate them from playing altogether, but by circumstance, they now have one less reason to.

  • @madfrito99 Destiny and Cod both have passes yes, but their passes work differently to Sea of Thieves’s one. For instance, in Cod and Destiny you’ll have to buy the season to get access to most of the rewards, and if you don’t you’ll miss out on some items forever. In Sea of Thieves, most of the rewards are free and the only things you pay for are just emporium cosmetics at a discount. So you don’t miss anything just because you haven’t bought the pass.

Cod’s battle pass system sucks, it takes a really long time to get to 100 and the FOMO in that game is really annoying. Destiny’s pass system is better than Cod’s but not comparable to SoT’s. Destiny’s pass is fairly easy as long as you play the game and it’s more of a bonus track as you buy the seasons for the story and activities, not the pass system.

SoT’s pass is fairly easy to get and the only thing you’ll miss out on are the scars, tattoos, titles, seasonal sails and flags. Most rewards will be coming back to the game in some capacity. And I think once that happens, a lot of the complaints about the Seasonal system will go away.

And funny enough, you said that you think most people here just play one game? My main games are Destiny 2, Cold War, Sea or Thieves and Halo MCC. With a little Crew 2 and Minceraft sprinkled in there for fun. I know the material you’re trying to compare Sea of Thieves to pretty well, and you’re not even close.

  • Ahoy!

SoT will never be pay to win or have any kind of mechanic that encourages this. The season pass is weighted so that everyone, from our most hard core player to the most casual player has plenty of time to hit level 100 and unlock the rewards.

    Dropping anchor here.

    Thanks,
    j0toro
