Hunter's call rework/additions.

  • I am really excited to see a rework of the Hunter’s Call and for this reason I would like to add my 2 cents to the discussion about this topic.
I do not believe that adding an emissary is the way to go. They need something to differentiate them from the other companies. Members of the Hunter’s Call do not require a flag to know who is a member of their tribe. They are not only a group of ragtag pirates, but a family.
As such below are some ideas that I have come up with or seen among the forum posts that I think would integrate well without taking away from their aesthetic, some small things and some larger things.

    Smaller changes:

    1. Hunter’s call should sell bait boxes. Similar to the merchants selling other supplies.
    2. I think the sea posts are a little bit boring and lack utility. I saw someone suggested making them into lighthouses which could light up at night or in heavy fog. You could also make the North star sea post more of an observatory than a lighthouse for Sudds. This would add ambiance to the game and the sea posts already look like a building under construction.

    Bigger changes/Gameplay changes:

    1. Missions for the hunter’s call should be added in the form of rumours. You might talk to one of their members who says: ‘I heard from Martha the fierce that something took a bite out of her ship yesterday. Sounds like a worthy hunt to me.’
From there you go talk Martha the fierce. Says she was attacked by something near Kraken’s fall island/coordinates.
Go to island/coordinates, follow a trail of debris/birds (or tracks if on an island) to find the creature in question.
Kill it and return a special item to the Hunter’s call (a trophy part like teeth or tusks) for a reward/commendation etc.
Possibilities for new creatures to hunt at sea:
Trophy Shark: Larger shark but not a Meg.
      Stingray: Stinging attack.
      Etc.
Possibilities for new creatures to hunt on land:
Trophy pig (some kind of wild boar that would spawn on islands). Would fight back and could charge the player, knocking them into the air.
Trophy Snake: A large serpent. Would be able to poison the player but also could constrict them in a grapple that the player has to escape from.
Is there such a thing as a trophy chicken? An emu perhaps 😊
Perhaps there would be a chance in future to display these trophies or something.
    2. An albatross: If you see an albatross flying around, sail towards it to have it perch on your crow’s nest and fly circles around your mast.
It brings you luck, increasing your chances of finding rare fish variants.
If you are attacked/get in a fight/ship sinks it will fly away and you have to find one again.
If you attack it/kill it you get bad fishing luck for a period of time.
This would help with feeling like you have a little bit of control over the fishing grind while not being a completely broken method of fishing. I believe having luck/unluckiness based on an albatross is also coherent with the sailing and pirate world.
3)Fish/Crab traps: Place down a trap and return to that location later to obtain various fish, same as fishing but unattended. Trap can hold up to 3 fish which are caught over time.
Spawn on islands like pig/chicken/snake crates. Can be bought from the Hunter’s Call like a supply crate. Limit of 1 per player to prevent exploitive achievement grinding.
I don’t think a big change is needed, merely some filling in the gaps of the faction. Curious to hear other’s thoughts.
      TLDR: I love the hunter’s call 😊

  • Some of those ideas I don't approve : the type of voyages proposed are very lame, the animal suggestions are poorly thought.
Yet I like the overall idea, to be pushed much further to increase the hype that there could be.

PS: The Hunter's Call is a family that made a company, so they are a company, family is just the social status that they hold between each other...

  • @flamenoir4280 I agree that the quest missions/rumour ideas aren't perfect. 'trophy pig' etc is more placeholder to fit the current world, by all means there could be something better to go there.

  • I feel the Hunters Call needs its own emissary and outfit, even sea dogs have an outfit.

Reputation can be gained by fishing, cooking snake/pork/fish/megaladon/kraken (fruit doesnt count) and killing a kraken or meg which would give the most reputation.

The quests I had in my mind are the same as if you read my mind! A rumor from a hunters call representative leads you to clues hunting down either a legendary fish or ferocious beast (must kill this enraged large boar). Once the beast or fish is obtained it goes in your inventory as an inedible item to be returned to the hunters call who told the rumor. Handing it in completes the quest awarding reputation and gold.
clues could be the type of bait to use, rumored areas where you find tracks and finally the location which could be a coordinate for the fish or an island for the boar (unmapped islands included).

Im happy to find similar ideas wanting to be added to the game especially since I love the hunters call.

Sorry for any formatting as Ive never posted on a forum before :)

  • @shnumps
I like your ideas to flesh out the quests, much like what was in my mind too. :)
I still think giving them emissary would just make them like the other factions and it would be nice for them to stand out. Maybe have progression based on a trophy wall?
The more different fish or these new quest 'boss' animals you get trophies from, the more trophies appear on the wall and that's how you gain rep with the hunter's. Or something like that.

  • “I am really excited to see a rework of the Hunter’s Call and for this reason I would like to add my 2 cents to the discussion about this topic.“

What do you mean by this? To my knowledge the Devs haven’t said anything about reworking Hunter’s Call.

  • @ninja-naranja I just mean I would love for them to do it and I've seen other people talking about elements of it?

  • @hooleygan6826 oh I see. Nevermind me then.

  • I like the idea! Hunter's does have a torch but it doesn't cast much light such as the one on Reapers does. But I'm not sure a lighthouse is the way to go, but agree it does need a bit of an upgrade, even if they are just small cosmetic changes. It's not much more than a dock and some rocks. It's almost like an afterthought tossed into the game. There are players that love to fish, and find it lacking.

I would like to see it a proper faction, but perhaps it doesn't need an emissary flag, it just needs something more to do. Like quests. Or how about voyages to deliver raw or cooked meat and fish to the Taverns? They could have their own crates like small food barrels, and maybe barrels for purchase to use as storage as well.

The rumor idea could work much like lost merchants, but not with krakens, probably only with megs. I heard the servers are maxed out which is why the kraken only spawns between world events, and sometimes even the clouds despawn so it can spawn. With the introduction of the portal system, in the future there could be an inclusion of traveling to new lands and catching new animals or fish there. I'm hoping they put a crocodile in the bayou of the 3rd Pirate's Life TT, or create other environments to travel and explore, fight, fish, etc.

They could also create a trade route or sorts by offering different prices for fish and meat from other regions. Such as Devilfish would be worth more in the Shores of Plenty, and meats like chicken and pork would be worth more in the Roar.

Another idea is being able to collect sea sponges, giant clams, shells, sharks teeth, etc. off the sea floor. It would give us more reasons to go diving. All of these are already in the game as part of the environment in certain areas, and can regrow or respawn over time, like the animals do. They can be harvested and sold to the Hunter's but I was thinking it might be better to deliver them to the Castaway. It would be a way of including her into the normal game beyond just being there for the Tall Tales. All the other NPCs are like that. She can craft them into jewelry for us to purchase, or charms that help ward off megs or other threats, or attract them, or to sell us potions that give a time limited small buff such as fire or poison resistance.

There's a lot of potential to fully flesh out the Hunter's call into something desirable and worthwhile to do.
