Allow Gem Selling To Mysterious Stranger

  • Athena is the only emissary you cant sell gems to…makes no sense. its bad enough you get more gems than anything doing thieves haven runs and they are useless for athena emissary! we all know the athena emissary is the worst for multiple reason (ridiculous grind, barely any athena loot, worthless athena voyages, etc). it should feel like you get rewarded for being a pirate legend…its unfortunately the opposite…its more like “hey congrats! now prepare for even worse grinding!”

  • I don't follow lore enough to know if that makes sense or if it wouldn't matter

but imo it's better to just increase cup/crate/plain athena skull rng on voyages and stick to athena loot

I see no reason both of the athena quests shouldn't be a minimum grade 4 and a half after competition without side stuff

They are plenty long enough and should get a person mostly to 5.

  • I think they should just add a new purple amethyst or onyx gem.

personally I wouldn't just want another mermaid statue for it

I would like something more along the lines of random of a skelly captain except instead of a captain perhaps a random beach skeleton of a fallen adventurer that washes ashore and is holding a map that can be picked up which gives a dig map but instead of chest it'll lead you to a sarcophagus which will have bones and athena items with gems in them to sell.

some of them will have good rng which will have an athena skull as part of the bone pile

I'd love to see the sarcophagus brought into the game other than just fate of the morningstar. I love the look and the sound of digging it

It does. So you have to put the actual hard work into it. Gem are sorta a booster.

Agreed. Gems are lazy. Then again, so is the design of Athena Voyages...so...kinda fitting really.

  • @madfrito99 what's up with all those athena threads lately? I said it in other threads...I'm fine with how it is, but maybe "new" Thieves-Haven-run-like voyages, for each regular regions, like a Old Faithful run for The Wilds and a Smugglers Bay run for The Shores of Plenty...or other islands...
Or give us athena loot only in thieves haven run and athena voyages, BUT then emissary rank should get leveled up much slower and we should get less xp for each treasure...
    That's just my opinion...

  • @schwammlgott no just no…why does everyone seem to want things harder?? its hard enough as it is to get to pirate legend then even harder ranking up in athena emissary…we should be thinking of ways to make it a little easier since every other emissary is 30x easier lol

  • @madfrito99 trust me pirate legend is if anything easy to get now. People can do it in a week (or even less if they know what they're doing).

That isn't to take away from any personal achievement, but the game shouldn't be holding anyone's hands through the whole thing like that.

I would say what's with all the negative posts ALL the time. I'm amazed someone would see the worth in playing the game if all they have are complaints and criticisms.

  • Athena's Fortune is surely a huge grind, but it totally makes sense. Long voyages where you have to pay constant attention to your surroundings, "cool" rewards (that are completely useless for pvp due to their brightness) and huge risks (especially whem you have to carry stronghold and athena kegs for commendations). It took me and my wife almost 6 months of grind, but when we finally reached level 20 we felt a bit of that feeling of "endgame" due to having all other emissaries to max level. However, i feel like this faction should have their special voyages with puzzles, riddles and boss fights.

The record for reaching PL on duo sloop is ~24h so I don't know what you're talking about

  • @madfrito99 Weren't you the same user that had questionable takes regarding PvP and progression?

Athena's Fortune is a terrible end-game trading company, but at the same time, it's meant to be a tough grind. You wanna get through that grind fast? Stack Athena loot to Grade V and do the Emissary Voyage on a Gold and Glory weekend. You'll get a great amount of progression, at the risk of being some of the most delicious steals a pirate could ever dream of claiming. You don't get an "easy mode" at the end game.

It is going to be a hard grind, and if you can't meet the challenges, you can simply not do anything related to Athena's Fortune.

Sea of Thieves is a game that is purely unique in of itself. It's the only game that has self-propelled sailing mechanics, PvE, and co-operative multiplayer all bundled into the same game. The hardcore and extremely intense PvP, loss of all your found but undelivered belongings from failure, and the tension and pressure of risk in the world should be an immediate turn off for light hearted gamers, but alas, players don't have any similar enough alternatives to turn to. Everything else is shoddy in comparison to Sea of Thieves and there is nothing else like Sea of Thieves.

  • @nex-stargaze agreed chief

  • @madfrito99 while i agree that athenas fortune desperately needs some tlc and means to make it more interesting. And i also find the amount of gems on a thieves haven run annoying, if they would at least give you grade it would be something, especially since the random assorted athena loot is worth next to nothing even at grade V

PL is anything but hard to obtain, it used to be hard/grindy to get there but currently with all the new loot over the years and especially emmisaries not at all

There is currently a no alliance speedrun of this done within 14h of playtime on a sloop, 11 hours on a brig and ~12 hours on a galleon

  • @madfrito99 Reading many of your posts, it seems like you request things be easier quite a bit, or a need for instant success. This game is all about the adventure. Rare was genius in making this game a horizontal progression system. No matter if you finish a commendation or goal Day 1, Week 1, or Year 1, 2, or 3, there is no power buff after completing these commendations or leveling up in each respective emissary. So why not take your time and enjoy the ride? You’ll gain the cosmetic rewards in time. I sail the seas quite often and have completed most everything there is to do. What happens when you get to the point where I’m at? The new complaint would be there is not enough to do. I still love playing this game, however, I miss the feeling of working towards a goal, and thoroughly enjoy when Rare drops new commendations.

  • The new shrines and treasures are a golden opportunity to add some more Athena stuff. That being said I'm against selling gems to the stranger, it will belittle that emissary.

Agreed. Gems are a commodity, and I'm not sure the AF would be interested in it given their position.

If anything, we're due for a new Athena loot item, but 100% against selling gems to the stranger. They're just way too common.

A new purple amethyst gem or something like it would be cool. Agreed that it shouldn't be just another mermaid statue.

It could drop from high level siren leaders and be a rare drop similar to the Athena skulls from skeletons.
