Islands in the Devils Shroud

  • The Sea of Thieves is surrounded by a Devils Shroud. In the lore and the books, it is repeatedly told that islands appear, which are then swallowed up again days or hours later.

What if random islands appeared at the edge of the map. Islands without names that we don't know yet and don't appear on the map. The only clue would be that, strangely enough, we see an island on the edge and that's why we notice it. Alternatively, one could create a cone of light or something similar that would then draw attention to it.

The island remains visible for X ingame hours and contains a lot of loot that the Pirate Lord has hidden there or gold from the ancient civilisation. The loot changes depending on the islands Lore. During this time we can visit the island and loot it. A threatening sign on the island tells us when it will be swallowed by the Devils Shroud and that is the announcement to leave quickly before the ship can take too much damage.

  • that's something that workable

you could create some new shroud creatures to fight that guard the island like a little land treasury and at the end you get some loot but you also get a locked chest (it will require 3 keys like the new curse) to dig up.

The locked chest will have decent value to sell locked

or a person can find keys that will be added to the rng of megs/skelly ships which can be gathered before or after gathering the chest

the chest doesn't require all 3 keys though as 1 key will give a little something nice in a compartment and 2 keys will give something better and 3 keys will give some new valuable item to turn in to a specific but randomly chosen NPC

let's say you steal one that's had two opened compartments then you just need 1 key to get the main item.

if all 3 keys are used that's when the high value item becomes marked on the map and people will need to hurry to the npc to turn it in

tying the keys to megs/skelly ships not only encourages activity but it's also going to get keys floating around to get people interested and engaged in the process

It would be something pve/pvpers like myself would engage in. We are already taking down a lot of megs and ships and at the right price it's worth the trips to go through the process. It gives a general spot to head which is always nice for adventurers that just do whatever.

bringing in keys regularly will be a regular content reminder and as long as the value matches up with the time and risk it would be another something people can work into their sessions.

  • Ooh yes I love this idea!!
