Just thinking of new concepts here.
How about an event around a legendary massive lizard that has been worshipped by some locals on a new island/updated island. This lizard could be the size of a ship but you would have to fight it on land.

I would love for something like the recent Kong movies, devoted worshippers of the demi-God huddled up in a small village on a new island, riddled with tunnels and strange rock paintings. Word has got to the wider SoT area about this discovery and the bilge rats, have asked you to investigate to see if these rumours pair up with recent disruptions to local merchant shipping. To get to deeper into the potential lair of said creature would have our pirate heroes navigate a large set of locks and passageways through the rocks. The locks would be like waves on forts where you have to clear enemies to progress, these would be the spawn of the monster lizard. You kill these and they drop something that will enable you to bring your ship into a lock and raise/lower water levels to continue to navigate these tunnels. It would be awesome if all this was low light and your lanterns and some bio-luminance on the wall of the caverns would be all the light you would have. After a say 8/9 waves you finally navigate through to big boss. There would be a big cavern where the king of the lizards would be laid up almost like Smaug from the Hobbit on a huge stack of loot. I guess you could use the ship for fire power but I already feel like most big boss action is easily navigated with ships so it would almost but nice to not have the cannons on the ship as an option. Maybe the lantern light could act as damage to the boss (along the lines of shadow skellies), due to it being accustomed to a low light setting. The lizard could perhaps traverse walls and have tunnels above ground it could access and come about on crews. Again, I feel the low light setting could really add some great atmosphere to such a boss fight. A lot of this is very raw, as I am thinking as I am typing but I would personally love to see something like this added into the game.
As part of this expansion we could see Lizards added in greater detail to the fauna on the game. It would also marry really nicely with the rock art at Crooks Hollow.
Interestingly, enough there is actual cultural relevancy to lizards in the Caribbean, to help sew this logically (somewhat) into the lore of SoT.
