Please reduce or remove pig hunger, requiring that you feed them constantly once caught to keep them alive. It feels unfair when doing animal cargo missions (and why pigs but not chicken or snakes??? do they not eat?). When trying to do one of these missions solo it's almost impossible to keep the pigs you already have fed while searching for the remaining animals you need.

You could do the pigs last or if that's not convenient, bring the pigs to the delivery outpost before you catch the rest.
They lowered this a bit ago, actually. It used to be worse.
I just buy a fruit crate and feed them before I go away from the boat. I do regular checks on them to keep them alive or leave a crew to do food duty.
Pigs have to be fed.
Snakes bite unless you play music for them.
Chickens are noisy but are ultimately the easier thing.I do wonder the reasons for this though, perhaps balance?

The more you progress in Merchant alliance, the harder the voyages can become by having to catch or care for more demanding animals. Low level, IIRC, was mostly chickens, other animals became more regular later in levels.
I also seem to remember that chickens were worth less, but the wiki lists the same value ranges for all animals, so either I am misremembering or they've changed that (or the wiki is wrong).
It's not that bad. Just choose your route accordingly using a guide map with animal locations, or commit them to memory. There are more than one type of food now so bananas aren't the only way to regen health give them to the pigs. Grunting isn't hungry, the crying is very distinct so don't if it makes a noise. Plus there are other ways to level, it's not like you have to turn in thousands of them to hit legend then run through 2 animal voyages for every single one of 93 athena voyages where you must turn in animals to hit lvl 10 or anything.
We really should have an OG Legend title...
@lem0n-curry I was on an island with all the pigs I needed and the pigs on my ship were dying of hunger even despite feeding them every time I caught and stashed a new one and it was not that long of a walk to the ship. It was ridiculous.
My suggestion is to change how it works, because it is annoying. I'm not looking for alternate strategies, just a more reasonable balance (and more consistent predictable behaviour between animals... if most do not go hungry, why should this one?).
@ninjadodo7203 so you want them to change the game because you're not open to advice that others have successfully used because your strat isn't working?

I don't know why you're all giving me advice on working around the unbalanced thing. My suggestion is to change how it works, because it is annoying. I'm not looking for alternate strategies, just a more reasonable balance.
Not unbalanced, agree with the annoying though 😁; but that's part of the game. Long sails, always the worse wind conditions, PvE crops up when you don't want them and are nowhere to be found when you need or want them.
It's there, I guess, to make each trip different - some people ignore the pigs and just do more voyages, others only do golden animals. Find a strategy that you think is good or fun and have fun playing the game.
Having a ship full of pigs isn't fun or the smartest strategy when solo.
You know that now, next time drop the voyage and choose another voyage, change the way to do it.SoT doesn't come with a manual, the maiden voyage wasn't even there the first year (even longer than that). People on the forums give you tips so you might succeed more and have more fun.
You added
(and more consistent predictable behaviour between animals... if most do not go hungry, why should this one?).
There are just three types, one easy, one annoying to transport and one high maintenance.
Otherwise it would just be the same thing with a different skin and they could have made 12 different colors of chickens.
IMO having three animals with the same behaviour and treatment would be boring.Perhaps we should ask Rare that the chickens need bait or else they pick through the bars and fly away … then most do need food (all, when you consider music food for the soul of the snakes).
It was a delivery voyage that specifically required 4 different types of pig.
@drizkillz I made a feature suggestion to change something that is balanced in a ridiculous way which makes no logical sense in the context of the game world. I don't need workarounds that are just as ridiculous as the problem itself. You're welcome to disagree with my suggestion but these 'strats' you speak of are entirely unhelpful because they don't address the underlying problem.
I'm not saying animals should behave identically (that would be boring) but the way it works now makes absolutely no sense whatsoever and creates inconsistent rules when one animal gets hungry but others do not.
There's no good reason why they couldn't make the pigs require food less frequently, making it less tedious/impossible to deal with, AND make the other animals also infrequently require some type of food to make the world behave consistently... OR make all the animals never require food.

I forgot to comment on the bold bit; you're making the assumption that the need-food-timer resets when you feed them. That may not be true, I have not tested this, but perhaps it resets only after they were hungry and food between the timer and the new need-food is wasted as is the time you spend on feeding the two or three pigs.
Four pigs at the same island - lucky, I would have put the pigs on the beach (thus saving time to climb aboard three times) until I got all four and then move them to the ship.

Why can you feed them pork chops?
Because pigs are omnivores and have been known to partake in cannibalism.
@pithyrumble said in Reduce or remove pig hunger:
I would like to see pig hunger gone. Why only the pig? Why can you feed them pork chops?
Why do you feed them pork chops ? Pigs eat anything, if they nibble on a bit of their own kind that's on you.

Thanks,
j0toro@meroviel Fair enough, but I feel like when I specifically say (in this thread and another) that I'm NOT looking for advice on playing differently - am perfectly content with my current playstyle and know how to manage an inventory - and I just want to discuss my actual suggestion and people still insist on lecturing me on how I'm just doing it wrong and my problem is not a problem actually making no attempt to understand why what I describe might be an actual problem and how my suggestion could help, that is really not in the spirit of helpful or constructive discussion, and it seems worth pointing that out.
@sshteeve I would be fine with arguments for why maybe the suggestion wouldn't work for x reasons or even "I don't feel this is necessary because Y", but "your strategies are wrong, just play more effeciently" is not a counter argument.

I REALLY hate to be that guy, especially when you have some good points in other threads, but you also said this matey:
I didn't ask for advice. I'm giving feedback to the developers, which you can agree or disagree with.
People, are, and will, disagree with you, which is what they are doing. If that happens to have some advice as well, can you really fault the community for trying to help a little? Even if it's unwelcome?
If Rare already nerfed the feeding times, then they likely won't again. Not to mention those types of merchant quest are less and less likely to pop up. Unless you are commendation hunting they're pretty useless and not worth the time.
Personally i don't even run them anymore; I just stick to the sunken ships as I can't be bothered with the time invested in the other two types of Merchant quest.@sshteeve Maybe I'm overreacting a bit, but I do feel like most replies weren't really listening to the actual problem(s) and just looking for ways to dismiss it rather than seriously consider if it might in fact be a worthwhile suggestion, or how it could maybe work a different way.
@pithyrumble said in Reduce or remove pig hunger:
Because I check things to be sure and OH MY GOD!
You won't be safe around children I guess with checking things they will eat 😁 ; don't turn them into cannibals, but take pics of embarrassing things they put in their mouth - I'm sure they'll thank you later …

I don’t think that’s entirely true. It’s true that people are trying to give you advice instead of fixing the problem but the thing is, I don’t Rare will fix the issue.
With the introduction of the Lost Shipwreck voyages, almost no one ever bothers with the hunting animal voyages. I forget if there is a commendation behind them required for a cosmetic. If there isn’t cosmetic for catching pigs I wouldn’t bother with pigs anymore
@coffeelight5545 There are titles, which for some of us are one of the few flexs left in the game, now that it is awash with gold and easily obtainable cosmetics.
