Gilded Athena needs some reworking?

  • Week ago I did my gilded athena from last Christmas season. I was running also athena emissary and after I did my gilded voyage I wasn't in level 4 in athena emissary. So in order to get level 5, I needed to do some extra stuff as well.

If Gilded Athena is coming back on next holiday season, I hope it can get some rework in a loot wise. As Gilded Athena voyage should be top tier voyage for Athena then it should mean that when you do it, you should reach level 5 in Athena emissary by doing it, no need to do any extra stuff to reach level 5.

In this to happen I would suggest those captain chests would be replaced by Athena trinkets and Athena boxes. Also skulls we get should also be Athena variants. Basically stuff which we might get during Thieves Haven run but in reworked Gilded Athena we will get those stuff as well. Last part could stay same as a 3 legendary chests from last island.

I don't think this change would brake a balance in game as you still have only one Gilded Athena available to get during holiday season.

So what you think these change proposals for Gilded Athena voyage?

Of course Rare might have other ideas for holiday season but as we have gotten those Gilded voyages earlier I am hoping that they will return. Only hoping that Athena Gilded could be more rewarding towards Athena emissary levels...

  • @alatami1 I agree, there should at least be the trinkets, crates and skulls added.

I’m hoping this year they flip Gilded Voyages on their head though now we have Grade 5 Emissary Voyages- which are essentially miniature versions of the Gilded Voyages that came before.

An Athena’s Ancient Vault full of Athena’s loot instead would be awesome!

  • in general I think athena stuff should get to grade 5 a bit quicker

as usual (imo) it goes from too easy when it was released to getting over nerf'd into something that takes too long for a session based game and isn't the best it can be for loot circulation

get that athena loot circulating more with more athena flags

this sort of stuff isn't supposed to be a lottery it's supposed to be a healthy circulation of loot on as many servers as possible

it's why reapers thrives is because reapers is awesome for pve and pvp.

2 athena quests to get a 5 flag floating around and a tiny pile of athena loot isn't reasonable imo for a session experience and isn't the healthiest for the server for pve or pvp

and there isn't any standard for the grind I and others like me got it done in a week after it came out.

  • Makes sense to me, and I see no balance issues with it. 100% for this.

  • I vote for voyage crates to replace the captains chests, ancient and villainous ancient skulls for the captains, mix of trinkets and skulls for the riddle chests, and mix it up with 2 legend chests and an athena keg.

Ditch the cargo portion, everyone dumps them in place as-is.

  • I'm fine with Athena being difficult to emissary. If everyone was able to quickly get to Grade 5, people would hit Athena 20 much faster, and then you'd see the same lame expansion we saw to the other factions...they'd just increase the max from 20 to 50 and say good luck suckers!

That said, I wish Athena Voyages weren't so lazy. Gold Hoarder has their own unique voyage types. Order of Souls has their own unique voyage types. Merchant Alliance has their own unique voyage types. Then you get to Athena and it's...sigh...just a mixed bag of the other 3 factions' voyages.

  • @kommodoreyenser wouldn’t it be more interesting if they added Athena cargo? Who wouldn’t love to cart around Legendary Ferns of Fortune or Rum Bottles or Great Renown? Make them worth 3k a pop and call it a day.

  • @sweetsandman I am also fine that Athena is difficult to emissary. And even I am already level 20 in Athena, I really don't want to that be extended to 50. :-)

In my post I was only speaking about that Gilded Athena voyage needing rework. We have gotten those from Rare during holiday season so only once a year. As Gilded should be so called Grand price for Athena, I would say that voyage should throw you for emissary level 5 with only that voyage. Also if it is rewarding to me to do it then it would be rewarding for other pirates try to steal the loot from me. Currently it is pretty much those 3 Athena chests which raise interest but not the other stuff.

If Gilded Athena is available once per year then getting emissary 5 with it does mean that you get into Athena emissary 5 fast also once per year. So I do think making only Gilded Athena more rewarding as a emissary wise doesn't brake the balance in a way that it would cause you get level 20 fast in Athena.

  • No it doesn’t need to be reworked.….it’s Athena….rarest loot of them all.

It Ez to get to 5 emissary.

    While traveling….

    1. Kill Skelton ships.
    2. Kill Skelton island captains and do the quest. Map is On same island at the moment.
    3. Do messages in a bottle.
    4. Kill megs.
    5. Do a partial Athena voyage or Thieves Haven run.
    6. Kill reaper players.
  • @johnhp1 Calls it easy and quick and leaves behind an extensive list that will invariably eventually get you killed and sunk by other pirate crews... 🙄

  • @johnhp1

You almost had me believing it was easy until you got to number 6 😂

I respect it takes an age to do Athena and I'm sure once I get to 20 it'll all be worth it, but at 15/almost 16 it still feels a life time away, especially solo'ing!

Had one good night over double XP weekend where I did a Thieves Haven run and one set of 5 star emissary quests, cashing in two 5 star flags, and it got me up by one whole rank...tried again last night and got portal hopped by a 5 star Reaper and that was that, swings and roundabouts!

I'm happy to try and leave it until double XP weekends myself whilst I try and do other achievements/commendations, 5 hours for half a rank up always feels abit much, but then it wouldn't be Athena if it wasn't 🤷‍♂️☠️

The rarest loot of them all is not loot that can be found washed up on the shores of any island. It should be the Athena specific loot.

It Ez to get to 5 emissary.

    1. Kill Skelton ships.

    Completely dependant on finding them.

This is the right answer, with the exception of 6, which is too risky. 3 adds so little once at lvl 4 and 5 not terribly practical unless sailing past already or at an existing stop. Megs and Skelly ships are still 20-25% of a level at emissary 5.

  • I think Athena loot should be worth alot more than what it is. They are only worth doing in the DR just for that last chest, everything else is loose change.

"rarest loot of them all" I don't see how this benefits a session based game by creating an environment of a specific faction that has become nothing more than a low odds lottery or people can just go do/steal a FoF and easily get athena loot

How it is isn't the healthiest it's just how it is.

It directly negatively affects low skill players without extra people to play with. It takes too long it's terrible for profit and not enough people are doing it which is real clear by the lack of athena activity on any given server.

Would have been better off without FoF and instead made it to where more people were doing more athena related voyages. It benefits everyone pve pve/pvp and pvp to get more activity within the faction.

there is a difference between rare and just a flat out lack of activity because of it not being as appealing as it can be and should be for loot circulation which makes servers healthier more often.

The game is far more exciting when athena chests /loot are floating around out there from voyages rather than people just spending 10 minutes hitting fotd and fof pvers for easy pickin's
