120FPS capable, but unable

  • Xbox Series X pirate here, currently using a non-4K monitor capable of 120hz. So, why am I required to have 4K capability BEFORE I can gain access to the 120FPS performance feature in SoT (which, ironically doesn'teven use 4K)? Why not just give me access to the 120FPS without the 4K in SoT regardless of resolution?

  • What you're required to have an 120hz and 4k tv to play with 120 frames?
Maybe it's a conspiracy to make people buy 4k 120hz TV's instead of 120hz monitors?

  • @galactic-geek did you check the video settings for the refresh rate? I had to change mine from 60 to 120 there.

There are no video settings available other than Auto-skip intro animatic (which is exactly the problem).

  • @galactic-geek in xbox settings, sry!

TV and Display Options only offers up to 1080p resolution. All of the General 4K TV details show 🚫 across the board - which is a big fat lie, because I know for a fact that my monitor/TV setup supports 120Hz (just not at 4K). Under Video Modes it only offers options to allow for 24 and 50Hz as well as YCC 4:2:2.

  • @DrizKillz Good news! Under Video Fidelity and Overscan section, I set the Display option from auto to HDMI, since I know that's what I'm using, and that seems to have allowed for the 120Hz setting to finally become available under the Refresh Rate Setting at 1080p resolution. In addition, I was able to increase the Color Depth up to 36 bits per pixel (12-bit).

  • @galactic-geek in gen. tv and display options, you should see display with resolution 1080p under that, is it set to 120 Hz refresh? Mine didn't automatically use the highest and was set to 60, only found it last night by accident. I play on a 27" monitor with VRR enabled and PC RGB, but the refresh rate was set to 60 even though the display can do 144 over hdmi or 165 via display port (really filter?)

  • @galactic-geek sounds like a win!

Still gotta see if it makes a difference upon the waves.

EDIT: Under the game settings, the Xbox Series X option is there, along with the ability to enable 120 Hz! Whoohoo!
    😄🎉

    I'm sorry I ever doubted! 😅

    It makes a MASSIVE difference.

    I went from an Xbox One X with SSD on a 4k TV....then to a Series X on 4k @ 60fps and it was a BIG jump...then I got an MSI gaming monitor with under 1ms response @ 120fps.

It's elevated my PvP tremendously. I never realized how disadvantaged Xbox One players were at a 30fps cap... it's outrageous the difference.

  • Thought you had to have 4k because it downgrades it to 1080 120fps

  • @ajm123 You don't have to have 4k. My gaming monitor doesn't do 4k and I run SOT 1080p at 120fps just fine.
