Chest of Glorious Treasure’s (Concept)

  • This is a concept for a gold hoarder cursed treasure type that I think can improve the treasure hunting experience and make it feel more interactive.

    This would be an empty chest, different from a collectors chest, that can be sold for no value in its base form but can be leveled up by players by charging it with many gold hoarder’s trinkets.

    Collecting trinkets is kind of give or take as many people will only collect them if they have the time to, but most of them are usually left behind. This chest will give more incentive to collecting trinkets due to the reward of the fully charged chest being very grand. Of course since this is a cursed chest it will have a downside. As the chest progresses through its 5 different stages, that being 10 trinkets charged, 20, 30, 40, 50, it will become apparent that a chest of glorious treasures is in play by the almost firework like glimmering that can be seen across all across the sea of thieves. The chest will also slow down the player holding it significantly the more it is charged.

    Of course selling these chests would come with its own set of commendations and cosmetics.

  • in my opinion the issue with these suggestions isn't the fault of the suggestion or the person suggesting it's the nature of the server itself and the activity and lack there of within it

    your idea is not a bad one, it's interesting but imo to make the suggestion worth it people have to use it otherwise it just becomes another cheese tool in alliance servers where the spirit of the content is disregarded

    I think it's very difficult to get enough of this stuff to happen organically to justify it in my view.

  • Something about this just doesn't work for me, but it is kind of difficult for me to pinpoint just what I am not a fan of on this one admittedly. It is rubbing me wrong, though, and if I can figure out what specifically is bugging me I'll try to report back on that because perhaps it could be tweaked to accommodate. But for now, I'm not a fan.

    Perhaps it's because it removes the tedious turning in of GH items; basically you can sell 50 of those trinkets in one go.

  • @wolfmanbush I get what you’re saying. in my opinion because of the point of the game being to make gold no matter what you add into the game it will be used by server alliances, however, I believe that this can encourage a very good pirating play style in normal servers. Unlike reapers chest, all of these cursed chests are going to guaranteed be in possession of enemy players due to its nature of only being able to be charged up by pirates. In addition to that, since it will take a long time to fully charge up with 50 trinkets, there will be a lot of time for other enemies to seek it out and sink it’s owner; this is why it’s value would be extremely high.

    So basically, server alliances it would be very op but that’s unavoidable for any new addition that they add. Regular servers it could be a great feature.

    The only thing that can make it good for server alliances is if the payout and reputation cannot be shared amongst alliances.

    People are already opting out of higher risk/reward a lot

    We barely get by with emissaries and emissaries are an awesome feature.

    the servers are largely full of new to newish players and casuals and people that aren't looking for more risk.

    Gotta have that activity or it doesn't make a lot of sense to implement

    When it comes down to higher risk higher reward it very often just comes down to 1 maybe 2 ships on a server taking the high risk if you're lucky

    and the risk part just mainly comes down to server hopper pvpers either finding them in time or not

    I don't think it's terrible to put this stuff in but it's gonna typically have the same result from anything I've seen which is lack of organic activity and every alliance server is gonna run it 24/7 so it ultimately is serving one group of people which have opted to remove themselves from the risk/reward balanced scenario and since it's high risk/reward content it seems pretty pointless to me
