I've decided to start working through the Bilge Rats... like most people I've found a lot by fluke so I thought I'd knuckle down and get some rewards..... So Skeleton Thrones.... I sit on them... nothing happens. Randomly Thieves Haven Throne worked. For the last 3 days I "Think" I'm doing the same thing... but nothing.... Any advise our there? Is this a glitch or am I terrible sitting pirate?

The larger thrones are meant to be sit upon by persons from different crews.
It may also be that some sit emotes do not work; equip the default one to be sure.
Double check which thrones you've tried - the large thrones need at least two players from different crews to sit together. It could just be a fluke that you've hit one small throne and the rest are large ones. I made this same mistake. List of thrones and sizes here:

@banjaxed-hobo as been said already: there are 5 small and 5 big thrones...the small ones you can do alone, for the big ones you need another crew

Not all sit emotes will trigger it. I can tell you this is true. Use the Default SIT emote.

Small ones are for single crew

Large ones are for two crews which means you have to convince someone to help you with those.

Sometimes it is fiddly. Try sitting in different spots.

The commendations are a clue to their locations.

You could simply view the commendation on the bilge rat tab. They don’t say exactly where they are but a clue. I believe they also say when it is a solo or duo one (Duos thrones require a pirate of a separate crew).

This depends on how long ago you may have done it. There was an update in November (https://www.seaofthieves.com/release-notes/2.0.19.2) that did a pass over all the sit emotes and made them work (likely because the thrones are usually included in the Season trials). It's possible that sit emotes added after that point don't work, but the majority of them should work now.
But you're right that if you want it to work 100% of the time, use the default sit emote because there has never been a problem with that one.
I still don't have all of these completed. :-/
