Invisible Storm

  • I know this is one that others have potentially seen before but this is my first time witnessing it at sea last night. I'm not sure how common the bug is but it's kind of freaky.

Basically, it's the audio and ship effects (wheel rotating and water filling the hull) from the storm, but there's no visible storm beyond the odd lightning strike. I tried taking a trip to the Ferry to see if that fixed it, but it didn't. I also don't know if others on the server experienced the same thing.

The "visible" storm was at Cannon Cove all night, but I didn't get time to check out if it was calm inside. I ended up using the Merfolk's Lullaby to track where the storm actually was.

  • I would suggest opening up a support case also. I know it is super hard for them to track things that are not easy to duplicate. But they will add it to their watch list of things to keep eyes on.

  • That's a new one to me, thanks for sharing!

I normally would if it happens again or I can find a route cause. The servers have been weird for me and my friends since the last update with lots of random bugs and crashes, but none of it seems to be reproducible.

I've been getting random long framedrops as well. I can't tell if it's the game or my internet though, as my ISP did some work in the area the same week as the last update. However, my buddy was getting major stutter in his game tonight and had to reboot everything to make it stop, bur it came back again towards the end. I had a full on game freeze on the same server, which I haven't had in a long time.

Another example, last night I had the "blue sea bug" (the sea in the wilds looks like blue Powerade) and a load of graphical issues, like getting close to Flameheart in the storm and the ghost ships appeared as bare models. I also had a ton of weird lighting on that server (not bad, just very different).

If I was to report every bug I come across in the game, it would clog up the system. So I only report bugs if I (1) know the cause and/or (2) can reproduce it - or it happens again.

Very true good idea not to clog up system

  • Since this thread was topped I'll add my two bits... the invisible storm happened to my crew and I a couple days ago. For us it occured after a server merge (using the portal). Two (of four) of our crew were booted out of the game during the portal hop and had to rejoin. Once they rejoined they had a different storm than the two of us that finished going through the portal. The two that rejoined appeared to have the "real" storm and the two of us that that made it through the portal had the invisible storm.

It was quite an experience to have two people in the same crew see one thing and the other two see something different. For example, when our boat was wildly rocking on my screen in the invisible storm it was calm as could be for two others on the same boat.

I had heard of this bug before, but I didn't know it could effect the same crew differently. Pretty crazy time, haha!
