Can we please get a way of playing with more then 4 players and ending up at the same server? It's getting kind of annoying to "ask other players for another ship".
Creating larger groups to play with friends
Tell your friends to click the set sail button at the exact same. After loading into the game, go to the ferry of the damned to see if you meet each other. Keep doing this till you get 2 ships in a server.
Custom servers are also in alpha, you can read more about them here.
@rhenaar Absolutely not! All that does is make it so people can make pre-formed alliances to wreck a whole server or turn it into an alliance "farming" server which Rare has no intention of letting happen more easily. It ruins the social aspect of the game as well, which is what they designed it for....before they even settled on a Pirate theme.
@aribalam good idea, will try to do that, thanks! Didn't know about custom servers being in alpha, glad to hear they are being worked upon.
@rhenaar Don't get your hopes up too high. For one they will offer no progression of any kind - no loot, commendations or achievements. Secondly there is no guarantee those servers will be made available to the general public as they were made with content creators in mind from the start, not the average player.
My friends and I have been server hopping to accomplish exactly what you’re asking, it’s kinda a pain but it’s what we do because there are more than 4 of us and no option for a larger more complicated ship to run.

Investing labor into YouTube/ Twitch is kinda lame when you think about it because it may as well say “we care more about advertising our game than we do actual players who are the backbone of the game”
Every single game that begins to cater to only the top tier of play, balance only for the top tier of play or listen only to the top tier of play or worse cater to YouTube / Twitch derps is doomed to crumble.
Games are either A fun to watch a stream of by nature of their design or they are not, and neither dictates the game will actually be fun or unfun to play, but every single game I have seen augmented to cater to Streamers has gone from decent to terrible to play, and you know what that does for players?
Anyway, I’m not opposed to YouTube players or Twitch players, but catering to them in even the smallest way is a waste of time and resources that can be far better used to make the game actually better and as a result possibly even better for the streamers.
Personally, I think they should make a duo ship mode. You automatically queue in with two ships, permanently allied. Everyone else in the server queues in the same, but no alliance can ally with another.
Not sure if there should be restrictions on the type of ship to allow, but I would imagine two brigs or one galleon, one sloop would be the selectable combos so that each alliance is always 6 members.
If one ship leaves, the other ship is just left on their own and can choose to make an "open crew" in which the next joining ship joins their alliance.
The loot is SPLIT evenly between both ships, so it is actually worse than a normal alliance, but the benefit is that you can play with more people and don't need to beg someone for a second ship.
Having two solidly allied ships also allows for some synergies such as dedicating one ship to shuttle loot from a fort, whereas in a normal game this is a bit more difficult to pull off since crews can always betray and crews want to be sure they turn a certain amount in and not their alliance members.
I think this is exactly what the game needs to break up some of the monotony of servers where everyone avoids each other. A mode where another ship has your back would make a world of difference for some peoples appetite for combat, and would help encourage some bigger battles more similar to arena.
Do you stay together for strength in numbers or split up to maximize profit? The choice is yours.
