skeleton chests from skeleton ships.

  • have you ever looked at the hoarder of barnacled gold commondation with its related cosmetics and thought hey!
    I want those.
Then you start sailing the seas for hours sinking skeleton ships and looting sunken wrecks.
Only to find out the 5 skeleton chests which you all got from sinking skeleton ships don't count.
This doesn't make sense let me just explain the situation here and point a few things out.

1: when i say skeleton chests i don't mean skelly chests that you get from a fort or stronghold, the issue with those is they resemble nothing like shipwrecked chests.

2: the skeleton chests i want to count towards this commondation have barnacles on them and are looted from SUNKEN SKELETON SHIPS. By all means making them shipwrecked chests.

3: doesn't this make it a little to easy?

No because considering you only get a few cosmetics from unlocking this commondation and you need to deliver .... wait for it.... 300 shipwrecked chests i believe it SHOULD be easier.

A big issue i'm facing doing this is that nearly every method for obtaining shipwrecked chests is unreliable at times and it always feels like the chests are few and far between.
The best way to obtain the shipwrecked chests that DO count are also through sinking skeleton AI ships.
But having been busy doing this for nearly 4 months with semi active playtime in the week i've only gotten around 50 and even with pretty high chances its not guaranteed and in my personal experience VERY RARELY more than 1.

This would mean you'd be spending countless hours sinking skeleton ships, looking for chests on island shores ( which almost never happens ) and looting sunken ships.

The pattern with these methods is, is that they feel uncommon and often require hours just to get a few.
Not to mention going for skeleton ships only offers you the fast and easy skelly sloop OR the skeleton galleon which can be a real pain to deal with.

My point here is the skeleton chests WITH the barnacles on them that you get from sinking AI ships should count towards the hoarder of barnacled gold commondation since right now it feels way to hard for some decent cosmetics.

  • why not just keep it in the background like many of us did and keep playing how you wanna play and it will eventually unlock

most of the achievements/commendations just naturally happen over time as long as you stay busy on the pve side of things

  • @wolfmanbush if you know what the commondation has you do this is simply impossible unless its a glitch or exploit.
the commondation requires you handing in chests to the gold hoarders so being afk would not help at all.

  • Only a few cosmetics? I think you mean an entire set. No let’s keep it on the rarer side. Besides, if you do a lot of shipwrecks you’ll get it in no time. You can also find barnacled chests on beaches or underwater.

Although I wouldn’t focus on just getting it. It’ll happen in the background of just playing normally

  • @ninja-naranja I doubt you read half my post because I acknowledged that those are options but how often do you find a shipwrecked cheat on islands? I’m guessing not a lot and although it’s nice having rare cosmetics you have to look at things by their value even if that value can be based on ones perspective. Me having to go out of my way to get this done otherwise it would take longer than a year, is not justified by the cosmetics being somewhat rarer than most others. They simply don’t hold that much value even if you personally like the set a lot.

  • @akuryokevin If the set doesn’t hold that much value then what’s it to you to unlock it? This commendation took me less than a year to complete back in the first year of the games life’s cycle. No reason to make it easier. If you want the cosmetics then do what it requires. There are some harder commendations in the game that unlock cool cosmetics. Don’t devalue them just because you don’t want to put in the time to earn them.

  • @ninja-naranja i don’t know how actively you were playing to get that but 300 shipwrecked chests ?
Me having been playing atleast 40 hours a week for nearly 2 months now I’ve only gotten 50 and that’s every hour spent actively looking for these chests on a solo sloop. They are not worth it but I have no other set goal in the game that’s the only reason I’m putting in as much effort as I am. Of course I like the set but if you’re honest here you know that it’s to much of a hassle. But let’s keep it neutral and say everything’s worth it and it’s fine I still can’t understand why the skeleton chests don’t count. Game wise it makes no sense that they don’t count towards this commendation so even with every argument you could use against me the simple fact remains that these chests qualify for the requirements of barnacled chests.

  • @akuryokevin they don’t count game sense wise because they were added many months after the game’s launch. Thus the only chests that originally counted were the 4 GH chests in barnacle form. You’ve been playing for two months, it took me at least 5 to unlock the commendation. I was going for every shipwreck I saw. This specific commendation is better to just go in they background and you’ll get it eventually. Trying for only barnacle chests won’t really make it go any faster since they’re pretty random.

Stuff you can do to speed it up is checking all beachsides, shores, shipwrecks and killing any Skelly ship and Meg you come across. The cosmetics are definitely valuable. It’s one of the rarer sets you see on the Seas. I don’t feel like the “hassle” to get these cosmetics isn’t warranted. I myself am a big fan of barnacles so it’s one of my more favorite sets.

  • @ninja-naranja idk I still would like those chests to count since it would make sense but after nearly 2 full months of actively going for the chests it bores me. And just as a side note I haven’t been playing for 2 months I started shortly after the games launch or so but since I’ve achieved most of the goals a player could achieve I was looking into the lesser known things such as this commendation😅 but I guess it’s fine I’ll try not to think about it to much and see how it goes

  • @akuryokevin just remember to hit up those shipwrecks! I also find a decent bit from megs and Skelly ships so make sure to fight everything you get jumped by.

  • @ninja-naranja will do! Always in for a good fight haha thanks for the responses buddy and happy sailing.

  • @akuryokevin said in skeleton chests from skeleton ships.:

@wolfmanbush if you know what the commondation has you do this is simply impossible unless its a glitch or exploit.

Not impossible, just time consuming for sure.
Any of the 4 original chests (castaway, seafarer, marauder, captain) can occur as barnacled variants under a few conditions:

    • Any of these found on a skelly ship should be barnacled
*Any of these found in a shipwreck should be barnacled
*Any of these found on a beach near the water (usually half buried) has a chance to be a barnacled variant (I've found both barnacled and non like this, so I'll say it's like a 33% chance or so)

No glitch or exploit needed, just time in game.

the commondation requires you handing in chests to the gold hoarders so being afk would not help at all.

He never mentioned being AFK in his initial reply.

I agree with you that skeleton captain's chests should also count as barnacled, but this commendation is doable without it. Again, it is time consuming due to the nature of the item requested, but for this game, since rewards are all cosmetic, I think having some locked behind commendations that take a while to complete is good tbh.

    Fair winds!

  • Start doing skeleton fleets for your 500 skeleton ships sunk if you haven’t already. Plenty of shipwreck treasure aboard, you just have to make sure to pick them up.

I never went out for this commendation yet got it during my 500 ships sunk commendation.
