Add damage indicators to hit marker

  • Above the X marker when you hit a shot, there should be another display of the amount of damage the person took. This would be helpful to know how much more you need to do to kill them, as well as knowing whether or not the shot actually registered.

  • The sword does 20 damage per hit, the pistol does 50 damage, the eor does 75 damage, and the blunderbuss does 10 damage per pellet.

It could potentially be useful to see if the hit registered, but if you pay attention you’ll know how much more damage you’ll need to do.

  • @aribalam the sword does 25 per hit and 50 on a lunge

  • @aribalam I'm mainly talking about guns. It should be the total damage dealt in the entire shot, so for example with the blunder if you hit 7/10 pellets, a 70 would be displayed + any damage the player took from previous shots.

Almost every single FPS except Sea of Thieves does this, and I think that this would be useful for new players as well for determining how much damage each weapon actually does. As a noob for me, it was definitely confusing.

  • I understand it’s usefulness, but I also feel like that could take away from the “no UI” thing Rare’s going for here.

  • @rogue-ninja-01 oh I thought they changed that to 20

Well SoT is not an FPS game.

It's an PvPvE game that takes place in a sandbox.

  • Nah, let’s not clutter up this beautiful game with extra niff naff :)

Every FPS does this? RPG-Shooter, like Borderlands, Division or so, yes...but REAL FPS, like Doom, Halo, Battlefield, CoD...NONE of them have this...SoT isn't a RPG, so this is something I completely disagree that it's needed

  • @bilgeratjack

Sword 25 and 60 damage, swing and lunge respectively.
Blunderbuss 10 per pellet total of 100.
    Flintlock 50 damage per shot.
Eye of Reach 75 per shot
Blunderbomb 50 for a direct hit.

Just learn how much damage you do and how much you need to do in order to follow up. Hit registration is not a valid excuse to add clutter to the UI, it just needs it's own fix.

  • This game has a unique look and feel to it. Part of the beauty is the uncertainty of confrontations and how strong your opponent is.
Introducing this sort of thing reminds me of the old arcade games where you are mindlessly blasting away, not at the opponent, but at the health bar trying to get it to zero.
This is another suggestion that changes this game into something different.

  • All the damage in the game is fixed. And adding the damage markers won't change bad hit reg. Here is my favorite photo to summarize everything in this game:

That diagram is wrong in some places. For example, all regular meat, not just fish, takes exactly 40 seconds. Watch it blink right at the 40s mark, pull it off the stove, and it'll be cooked through.

40 seconds? No, "small" meat takes 60 seconds...big meat 120 seconds, so 2 minutes. Fish takes 45 seconds and trophies 90 seconds

  • So now your not just playing the game, your looking for a number in the middle of combat.
Like a tab-targeted MMO combat mechanic and damage values floating in the air.

Like others have posted, not necessary.
Time-to-kill is too quick in SoT to make any practical use of this mechanic.

  • @bilgeratjack
all the weapons deal flat damage bar the blunder and it doesn't need any more buffs.

having numbers register won't help hit reg as it and the hit marker are all handled client-side

  • I'd rather not see numbers floating about the screen. We're not playing The Division.

  • only issue with that is you would only see damage 3 out of 5 times. hit reg is a massive problem and if they were to add that it would take the pirate feeling out of the game and then it would cause 100 more problems with guns

Double-checked just to be certain - shark took 60 seconds, but a sunny splashtail only took 40 seconds, not 45.

  • @galactic-geek ok...I'm sure it was 45 seconds the last time I've looked closely

Agreed. Plus this suggestion wouldn't even work. Instead of just seeing the 'x' and not getting credit for the hit, you'd now see the 'x' and the damage number, and still not get credit for the hit.

  • or just learn the different damage values? its not like they change often lol

  • @aribalam No, Sword 25, Pistol 55, EOR 75 and 60 on a lunge.
@sussybakastyle I don't think it's needed for anything as its a pretty easy concept to understand. Adding the hitmarker won't tell if you got hitreg or not, rare is too lazy for that.
