Haven’t seen any posts on this yet, but does anyone know what Joe is referring to….?
Hidden Tall Tale?
@wolfmanbush don’t forget about the abundance of Shrouded Ghosts that spawn there! That’s how I got my legendary title!

Very interesting! I don’t think he’s trolling us.
Rare devs are literally known for that. Don't take that seriously, it's obviously a joke
Unannounced secrets are usually something simple like a cave drawing, a prop that hints at a future feature, or an easter egg of some kind... logically speaking, they aren't going to design a full Tall Tale only for nobody to know about it or engage with it.
Joe Neate knows how investigative and hyper-aware to subtleties this community can be. That's why it's so fun for him to just toss this grenade and walk away - he's trolling!

Perhaps, but he has to know people will spend a lot of combined hours trying to find the hidden tale. Trolling fans by saying there is one when it doesn’t really exist would undermine fans’ trust. I’d like to think he has more respect for SoT players than to manipulate them by fake tossing the ball out there just to see what happens and for the lolz.

maybe it'll be like those rich guys that hide gold and ancient valuables in the mountains and throw random riddles into the world for a long time
everyone thinks it's a hoax after a while then someone is out wandering around one day and trips over tree root and finds something shiny then boom old Jed's a millionaire
Well I guess that’s not unrealistic but it is Joe Neate we’re talking about.
You know, if something secret does exist, I wouldn’t rule out some really well hidden journal that leads sends you to a few locations for some other journals. It seems easy enough to just hide somewhere and I guess that could be a sort of low key Tall Tale in its own rights!

You might be overthinking it. It's British/Irish humour. If you're familiar with Joe's personality (from Podcasts and streams), you'd have instantly got that he's joking.
Although, it might be a cheeky nod to Tall Tales yet to come but the assets exist in the game somewhere. Things like Wanda's workshop shrine exist, for example, but we don't really know yet why or if it will connect to something (like a future Tall Tale). Or it could just be an easter egg on its own.
I do think though, it's just a wry joke from Joe.

I prefer a sourdough joke personally...

Lighten up the lot of you he's either serious or he's joking and I suspect the latter, not messing or trolling... Some people need sense of humour transplants.
If you are suggesting me then you should go back and review my replies. All I did was say it would be surprising if it was just a joke. Some players will spend time trying to uncover the secret. I have been that player before and it is disappointing when you learn it was wasted effort. At no point was I mad or anything with Rare. I like the idea of finding hidden things like the lab and stuff. Just slightly disappointed a little.
Wasn't directed at anybody in particular, just read through the thread quick and responded to the overall tone of some of the posts, my post was tongue in cheek too..
Whether or not it’s true, it’s something the devs should consider.
How can there be a sea of Pirates where all the adventures (in this case, tall tales) are listed like a menu?
There should be hidden adventures strewn throughout the seas if you know where to look or what to do.
Twice in A Pirate’s life, the Cursed Captain AND Jack mention something about remembering a song… what if after you acquire the Yo Ho Shanty, it could be used to unlock an epilogue tall tale?
That's my favorite too, at least I think he's talking about the one I'm thinking of. The one I'm thinking of that's my favorite is the one where you open the trapdoor in reapers hideout and head down into the icy part of the sea of the damned where the shrouded ghost replaces skeletons as the common enemy and you have to save One Eyed Willy. Great stuff, love the reward too, I always wanted to have a dragon.
There's another game: "Elite: Dangerous", which is open-world space-simulator-mmorpg.... doesn't matter really, and there's this ongoing myth about this mysterious thing/planet/place which the developers and really close affiliates have quasi-confirmed/alluded to.
It is quite possibly the easter egg of easter eggs, and many hundreds -- if not thousands -- of space travelers have committed their whole time in the game in the pursuit of this mystery.
"Raxxla" (youtube video link talking about raxxla going over some basics of the mystery with a bit of contempt in his voice) and another video some months later still looking for raxxla anyways, hah!
Just mentioning that word in any elite:dangerous conversation draws tears, anger, dismissal, laughter, and wonder from all present. Raxxla has been a part of the E:D lore for longer than most people playing the game have been alive and it is incredible how such a mystery can provide just enough "itch" to so many players that they will literally scour the heavens, come hell or high water, to scratch it.
It's the mystery of the unknown and that quest to uncover it that drives many people in this video game, and even in real life.
I've spent a little bit of time - not a lot - considering if there's an easter egg like this in Sea of Thieves, and I can't help but think that the designers and Joe are far too creative to have not put some big, yet little easter egg in the sot world. A twist of an object on this island, a clue on another island, all leading to some small but great discovery for the adventerous pirate that was clever enough to follow the breadcrumbs.
I've also spent a little more than a little bit of time looking for said breadcrumbs to no avail.... thus far.
@jollytomroger Funny you bring that up. The problem with Raxxla and Elite Dangerous is that it doesn’t actually exist within the game. They have been teasing that for so long. It is wasting a lot of players’ time as they scour the universe to find it based on the clues. I have no doubt they will put something in there later and claim it was there the whole time but it will be a lie. They are trolling their own players and it is very disrespectful. A LOT of smart players have devoted an incredible amount of time to find Raxxla. If it were there it would have been discovered by now. A good example is look at the Phantom Program puzzles Battlefield players have been able to solve over the last few versions. Some of it was truly mind blowing that teams of players were able to combine efforts to crack that stuff. That is why Rare needs to be careful about teasing hidden things within the game if they are not really there. Some of us hunger for that kind of thing here and they could end up wasting a lot of peoples’ time and disappointing dedicated fans.

Someone would have found the voice and book image assets. People do data mine and watch for this stuff in every patch.
He is just trolling.
Though of course there will be new content added over time and new tall tale will already partially exist on the dev alpha builds.I would agree if it weren’t for 1 thing. Last year in a video the devs mentioned a noise nobody had heard in the game before. “At a certain time and a certain place, uh listen carefully”
@thundercharg Might be a good idea to give some context for that phrase for those who are not as familiar with it.
Reddit QUESTION: A time and a place; listen carefully
VIDEO: Joe Neate saying, “A time and a place and listen carefully… that’s all I’m gonna say”
He’s suggested twice now about something hidden. I am very shocked to see how quickly this community dismisses the possibility. The alternative is that the Joe is trolling for a laugh at the community’s expense which doesn’t really seem consistent with what I’ve seen from him before.
EDIT: A very special thanks to @drizkillz for originally finding and posting these links in another thread.
I find it weird that they joke about this stuff. I mean, Joe is aware that better devs actually do this kinda thing to create fun buzz around the game right?
Also, he literally said once "I know this just sounds like something we'd say, but yah there's stuff still in the game no one's found" "It's like the witness"
... Has Joe even played the witness? Saying that really means something. That Rare can almost certainly not deliver on.
I really don't know. But eitherway how they've teased this stuff so far is either undermining the hidden secrets that actually exist as almost no one believes it. Or it's undermining any buzz around them really doing cool stuff like this in the future.

Im like 90% sure at this point that's what Rare is doing as well, with the only difference being that not that many people care in SoT.

It sounds as if these aren’t single time or place incidents. A video on YouTube by synicall shows the noise at night near the sea dogs tavern while and other video at the same place shows it at day, not to mention the post your directing towards is at plunder. I don’t believe that’s the noise the devs have hinted at but a tease for something such as when they added Meg music to the sharks

What part? The thread overall or are you alluding to the other thread concerning the strange sounds?
