Pets update suggestion

  • Have you ever got a pet and think, well this was a waste of money……..I have, I love the fact Rare added pets to SoT but the fact that the do absolutely nothing except give a small sense of companionship while on the seas is pointless to me, also every time I shoot a gun or cannon, they whimper in fear, at least the dog does, please change that. Now to the suggestion, I think that pets would be better if they had an affection meter which you can fill by feeding and petting them on occasion, once the meter is full ( 5 hearts e.t.c ) then the pet will give you a random piece of loot, nothing too crazy like chest of legends or anything too valuable but something such as captains chest and below, villainous skulls and below e.t.c, it is a small change but would give us reasons to have our pets out and on the ships.

  • @x-1m-h3r-b00-x And this is a Pay 2 Win suggestion you've put forward as it gives advantages to those who bought the pets over those who do not. They are meant to be purely cosmetic and offer no in game advantages. So it isn't going to happen.

  • I'm down for more interactive options with your pets, but not if it leads into pay-to-win scenarios.

Technically speaking, they're already pay to lose - they can interrupt your attempt at using other interactables, might distract you at a critical moment, can jump scare you, and will even give away your general location to enemy pirates either through sound or simply by being spotted.

On the plus side, you can make distant crews think you're shooting a pirate over by faking it with your pet. You can even use them to lead follow-up shots without wasting your cannonballs. 😉

  • Yeah, no.

Yeah; Make pets a bit more interactive, so there's a reason to actually have them, cause tbh even though I own one of each kind, I just forget to bring them out cause all they do is break my ear when I'm fighting, and get in my way when I accidentally pick them up mid-fight or just randomly.

No; Pets bringing you loot is pay to win, no matter how garbage the loot is. Pets can only ever be purely cosmetic until they're available for free to everyone.

  • @x-1m-h3r-b00-x why would a cosmetic give you loot?

  • Make the pets pay to win instead of fixing the game

  • I'm down for maybe a pointless mini game that's specific to each pet. Say playing fetch with the dog and the like. No rewards, maybe a title so people know you like your pet? But no loot gain because even if its just 50 gold, it's still an advantage over players that don't have pets.

  • There’s a simple solution to the Pay to Win aspect. Just make one pet free to everyone. Boom solved.
Then we could suddenly have seas filled with USEFUL pets.
I’d love it if they hovered around x marks the spot digs whenever you got near.
I wish more ship battles had crazy pets everywhere. It’s be fun.

  • @mostexpendable and once everyone has a pet, go nuts on the clothing cosmetics. Watch the money roll in when we’re all suddenly using them more.

Loads of pets everywhere doesn't sound fun at all, it sounds like it would get pretty annoying fast honestly. I don't want to be mandated into using a pet, and many others don't either. Making them more than a cosmetic makes them essentially mandatory. Hard pass.

  • @redeyesith preferences I guess. Personally, I’d love it. But yeah, a bit more development time would need to go into pets. A bit less whimpering during cannon fire would be brilliant thank you.

  • I reckon a pig or chicken would make a great free pet, as they’re already modelled, if the pay to win aspect is a deal breaker. It would be hella cool to use a pet monkey as a slower rigging ball though, if ridiculous.

  • I thought it hilarious when in the heat of battle against the Flying Dutchman, Jack Sparrow says: Who's parrot is this?

The NPC's are also annoyed by pets in combat situations.

  • the pets are boring and annoying never use them bought 2 will never buy one again, but i dont get it even for the shipskins the only one i bought is the conker one cause it looks good, idk why i should pay money for shipskins,in the future i just buy the seasonpasses should be enough money for rare....sunk a lot money into emotes

  • The pet interaction button needs changed, too many times have I picked up my pet while trying to get on the cannons or the wheel. For this reason I do not use pets because in a fight those seconds of picking up and dropping your pet can decide the outcome of the fight.

  • @dlchief58

I’m not sure how anyone could consider this Pay to Win to be honest, regardless of you getting loot or not there is no advantage over other players as the only thing you can buy in this game IS cosmetics and the last I checked cosmetics do not give players an advantage over others, also you don’t have to pay real money to get pets, you can find ancient skeletons although rare to see, that’s how I got my pet, but to your point if not loot gained, then what way would you like to see pets updated.

    Thanks for reply

  • @x-1m-h3r-b00-x their sound effects are just annoying and deserve their own slider so they can all be muted.

  • @x-1m-h3r-b00-x Players getting extra loot/currency/whatever from something they paid money to obtain that someone who didn't buy it doesn't is literally a definition of Pay 2 Win. If I don't buy one of your special pets then I don't get that guaranteed income. And you said it yourself, the game is about cosmetics and this puts the "haves" in a better position to obtain whatever cosmetics they want easier and earlier than a "have-not". It is a small advantage (depending upon the payout), but an advantage nonetheless.

Getting Ancient Coins via Ancient Skeletons is totally irrelevant, especially considering it is a RNG situation - many people to this day have yet to see one. This would force people to use them on a pet when they may instead want a new premium livery for their ship or a new set of emotes, but don't want to be at a disadvantage or lose out on that virtual ATM (which is in effect what it is) you propose.

Pets should remain completely cosmetic, and the only thing added should be other fun interactions you can have with them. They should not get any useful or helpful abilities as that wades straight into the Pay 2 Win waters which Rare has (wisely) chosen to steer clear of.

Lastly, it makes no sense in terms of gameplay. Where is this pet going to conjure up a Captain's Chest/Villainous Skull (which is the most valuable of the standard chests/skulls anyway, so you aren't making a small "change") out of thin air? Are they now wizards? Was he hiding it in his fur/feathers? Now if they led you to a spot like in Fable III, I could let that part slide but would still oppose the idea on the basis of its Pay 2 Win roots....as would Rare.
